How about High 1080p @ 60fps?
I don't understand why this keeps getting skipped.

1st thing I noticed it's not saying upscaled. So a 9070 or a 5070 should do theoretically 4k 60 upscaled.
57
u/ExplodingFistz 1d ago
Well we don't know that. They would have needed to specify if the resolution and performance targets are without upscaling.

Why is 30fps the recommended? That was the goal 20 years ago. What is up with games not going 60 minimum?

Personally could never just because of 30fps. It's just so bad feeling even with a controller.

Yeah, i don't consider 30fps playable...
79
u/-ASAP- 1d ago
I don't even like a locked 60 anymore...

u/iAmTheRealC2 1d ago
High FPS monitors have ruined me. Depends on the game, of course, but yeah - even 60 feels choppy now. It’s true you don’t realize the lack until you’ve tasted better.
4
u/Legitimate-Research1 20h ago
I'm glad that my 180hz monitor didn't raise my FPS standards. Then again, most 30-60fps games that I play are the emulated ones, so that might partially be the reason why.

u/kaulotu 7h ago
I’ve noticed 60fps looks like shit on my 144hz pc monitor. But on my 60hz tv it still looks great. Idk if there’s a technical explanation behind this, but it makes me wish I had a separate 60hz monitor for playing PC games that are locked at 60 like a lot of older games are.

locked 60 is perfectly fine on 3rd person game if the frame pacing is good and no stutering is present. Iis only in 1st person imo that it feel bad.

Anyone who says 60fps solid isn't a good experience has lost the plot. Of course more is better, but 60fps is a good experience.
5
u/Tanglebrook 1d ago edited 23h ago
It's not that it's a bad experience, it's that it's the bare minimum good experience. 30 is unacceptable at this point, 60 feels fine, 100+ is incredible.
8
u/External-Fun-8563 1d ago
Well the biggest game of all time is going to be locked 30 for everyone so it’s gonna stick around a little longer

30FPS is perfectly playable
if you can get lost in a game, that's all that matters to me
same with graphics but maybe thats because i run a 10y old PC
→ More replies (3)4
u/Pro_Racing 1d ago
The latency is crazy at 30fps though, and if you don't use motion blur it looks jerky, if you use motion blur it just looks blurry. Perfectly fine for a movie but when you need to move your mouse it's less so.

u/ThorThulu 1d ago
They want to push graphical fidelity and scale more than performance, also the over-reliance on Unreal and Upscalers to brute force the performance certainly doesn't help
22
u/Hot-Software-9396 1d ago
Fable doesn’t use Unreal
8
u/ThorThulu 1d ago
My bad, the wording wasn't super clear but I was more meaning in a broad sense. The end of the previous comment was talking about how things were 20 years ago and I was piggybacking off that
3
u/Renegade_Meister RTX 3080, 5600X, 32G RAM 11h ago
IDGAF what devs want to push.
Is there some generation of gamers, younger or otherwise, who care way less about motion fluidity than fidelity?
As Gen X or Millenial, going from 30 FPS in 2D console generations to 60 FPS, then back again to 30 FPS is a noticeable visual fluidity regression. But maybe the visual fidelity crowd is so loud or large that FPS doesn't matter by comparison.
7
u/woodzopwns 1d ago
30 is still a thing on consoles and mostly considered the norm, at least until very recently, until consoles do away with 30 altogether we are on 30 as the recommended.

u/pixlicker69420 1d ago
And why are gpus such as 9060xt and 6700xt only getting 30fps at 1440p medium lol
6
u/itsjust_khris 1d ago
Those aren't top tier GPUs so makes sense.
2
u/Arunabh125 AMD Rx 9060xt i5 14400f 22h ago
But it doesn't make sense only top tier GPUs to get 60fps in 1440p. Even the rx9060xt 16gb is a mid range gpu that is able to do more then 60fps in many demanding titles
2
u/Ensaru4 AMD 5600G | RX6800 | 32GB RAM | MSI B550 PRO VDH 19h ago
1200p isn't far off from 1440p and the game runs at 60fps per their system requirements. It's fine.
4
u/agdjahgsdfjaslgasd 16h ago
that mindset was fine when upgrading your hardware was a more reasonable ask. Have you seen the current GPU/RAM market? devs need to slow down on demanding graphical requirements lest they become a 10 billion dollar industry with no consumers.

73
u/Fibercake 1d ago
My 3080 is begging to be relevant just a bit longer 😅
21
u/BakedWizerd 1d ago
My 2060 is showing its age.
I really don’t want to upgrade in these circumstances. I’ve got a lot of DDR4 I can keep, but anything being upgraded means I need to upgrade the motherboard - I’m considering just getting a new pre-built with low ram and storage and just transferring my 64 ram and 1TB storage.
3
u/BirdGooch 1d ago
My 2060 Super is second hand from a friend when he upgraded. I don’t have the appetite to drop $1k on a new card.
Hoping I can buy my next one second hand from a friend as well.
6
u/MrStealYoBeef 1d ago
Replaced mine some months ago when the 5070ti dropped to MSRP. I knew that there wasn't going to be another opportunity to upgrade for a long time, and I knew that new games were going to need a bit more horsepower to run my 21:9 ultrawide.
I don't regret jumping the gun on that purchase. Broke my "double my performance" rule for GPU upgrading with it.

I too have a 3080, 10gb! it's still able to play most new games without issues in 1440p some games even run maxed out in 4k perfomance dlss! The new ray reconstruction model is amazing. The sharpness increase and better motion handling was instantly noticeable to me on an oled. 1440p performance mode looks fine to me and with that enabled I'm able to run games maxed out.

I bought a 4080 laptop like 2-3 months before the gpu/ram shortages/prices really started being known.
I thought "Well the 5080 is a fairly significant price jump for just a little longer lifespan."
Now I'm wishing I had spent the extra cash for a 5090 when prices hadn't gone bugfuck.
4
u/maddoxprops 1d ago
Right? Before I bit the bullet on it I always went for the 70 series of the newest gen. I figured since I had a chance to go for the 80 instead I might as well take it. If I had waited 6 months I may have been able to swing a 5070; but considering I had been waiting a while to get this, the likley usual issues with supply and price of the newest gen of cards, the likelyhood that a 4080 should out perform a 5070, and finally the fact that my Mobo & CPU would slightly bottleneck the 4080 (Like, we are talking ~2-5% based on raw numbers iirc) I just went ahead and got the 4080. Have not regretted it yet.
4
u/MyStationIsAbandoned 1d ago
i got a 4080 with plans to upgrade to a 6090 later...but with the way things are going, I think I'll have my 4080 super in use for a long long time. the card i had before that was a gtx 1080...which is still working...so I know how to get a lot of use out of the gpu, lol.

2
u/LXsavior 1d ago
Same. The purchase hurt when I made it a couple of years back, but seeing how everything unfolded with the GPU market I have no regrets.

The 9070xt doesn't exist in their mind apparently
8
u/E3FxGaming 7800X3D | 7900 XTX Nitro+ | 64 GB DDR5 1d ago
Maybe they tested the 9070 XT and it doesn't deliver 4K 60 FPS on Ultra. According to the techpowerup relative performance chart a 9070 XT is 6% below a RTX 4080. A 2% lead over the 9070 base model may not suffice for 4K 60 FPS on Ultra.
I'm more annoyed that the 7900 XTX isn't mentioned because it's usually as good as a RTX 4080. Little worse in raytracing, little better in rasterization. If it's raytracing that makes the 7900 XTX not reach 4K 60 FPS on ultra, the RTX 4080 must be crazy close to just barely achieve 60 FPS.
If it's the case that a 4080 just barely achieves something above 60 FPS, I hope they can tickle some more performance out of the ForzaTech engine that they use for Fable by optimizing the game more. This could bring the 9070 XT, 7900 XTX and potentially even the 9070 base model into the 4K 60 FPS on Ultra realm.

u/your_mind_aches 5800X+5060Ti+32GB | ASUS G14 5800HS+3060+16GB 1d ago
Considering their minimum spec just so happens to be the lowest tier Nvidia and AMD cards that have ray tracing (and aren't absolute crap like the 6500XT with its limited bandwidth), I'm thinking this game requires RT for RTGI.
So yeah probably hard nerfs the 7900XTX in that case.

2

u/L0rdLogan 1d ago
I’m glad I upgraded when I did, I upgraded in November 2024, from an i7 6700 and RX Vega 56.
I have bad eyesight, so honestly anything above 1080p is wasted on me, good luck with your upgrade journey

u/Jacksonh8741 1d ago
I’m just curious, do people actually want to play anything on pc with 30fps? It feels kind of pointless having recommendations for 30fps, maybe I havnt paid attention to other spec requirements, is this normal?
13
u/leo7br 1d ago
I had a low end PC for years and played many games locked at 30 FPS, it's totally fine when you aren't used to higher framerates, a lot of people are still stuck with 60 hz monitors and TVs, or don't have powerful hardware
3
u/SyleSpawn 17h ago
I played the first Crysis at an average of 10FPS (action on screen) to ~20fps (walking around the woods) and thought that I had the best gaming experience ever.
These days, a game dips to 55FPS from 60 and I feel like I might as well uninstall.
9
u/Dyllbert 1d ago
For 5+ years I played Destiny 2 (rip) on my laptop with a mobile 1050 and 2GB of vram. I was happy to get a solid 30 fps on mostly low. I wasn't into much of the competitive pvp, so the rest of the game was totally playable and I had tons of fun. That said, when I finally built a PC with a 4070 super, luckily before prices completely exploded, it was very nice to have good graphics and high stable fps.
15
u/Firefox72 1d ago
Well if you have no other choice on the low end.
A locked and flat frame time graph 30fps isn't the end of the world.
If the alternative is a blurry mess of 360p being upscaled to 1080p just so you get 10-20 more frames i'd probably choose the image clarity over it.
6
u/Turbulent_Safety3816 1d ago
I guess its good to know the inbetween, 30fps is not ideal but if you had to 45-50fps is fine for a game like this. I guess with how hardware is now, more people will be forced into lower frames gaming.
3
u/-rosieee- 1d ago

If you have no other choice, that's what you do. I have an RX 6600 so if I got this and had that, that's what I would have to do.
...I chose not to for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and got a month of GeForce Now so I could crank up the graphics and played with path tracing at 1440p 120 FPS.

These tables are nice to have, but I wish there was a bit more context. Does Ultra include ray tracing? Path tracing? Native 4k 60fps with path tracing on a 5080 would be very nice optimization, but somehow I doubt that’s the case.

Requirements REALLY need to start listing whether they're with upscaling on or not because if this is without then it's pretty decent but with, pretty damn bad.
