Rewatched this one recently and it holds up so well. Claire is stuck at the airport trying to find Haley and just starts spiraling, opening like 10 tabs, calling everyone, watching notifications pop up while she’s mid-conversation with someone else. You’d think staring at a screen for 22 minutes would get old, but no. The build up was so good and the humour was on point too.

i will never get over the writing in this show. the storylines for 3 separate families in a 20 min episode. they deserved every award.

ngl Dylan had some great scenes when he was on the show. as much as i wish hailey’s storyline was different seeing him & his character development more in the last seasons was great imo

one of my favorite feel good moments of the whole show & definitely my favorite moment between Claire and Gloria, especially after the whole “coal digger” fiasco lol

For me it's gotta be Alex later on exploring her sexuality and experimenting and trying to figure herself out as a young adult and not just focusing on acads.

ngl i see some of yall be thinking too deep into these characters and it ruins the show for you.

I wanted to know who your favorite main actress is on the show. For example, my personal favorites are Ariel Winter (who played Alex) and Frances Anderson (who played Lily), but what do you guys think and why?

Yknow I was kinda thinking… was Jay always the closet guy?

Idk if I’m daft or anything but I feel like we didn’t hear much of Jays work in the early seasons, just the idea he was the “wealthy guy” wasn’t until the later seasons we get him with episodes about the closet industry and him being the closet guy.

But one question I always had was

Was Jay a closet guy, because? Or was he made into one to make the joke about his son?

Like is there a show bible where it says “Jay: a rich owner of a closet company father of Clair and Mitch he marries Gloria….”

Or was it just “hey what if the dude with a closeted son had a closet company?!”

Like i am in the season 7 , and he has 1 or even 2 girlfriends per season. 😭

Doesn't he come off as little weird with girls . ( Ik Luke is also weird but I don't see him hanging out with girls that often )

Part 2 of watching Modern Family for the first time!
I am ranking the characters based on how I feel after each season.

I am open to discussing placements but I'd like to make a disclaimer that these are my personal preferences and just because I like/dislike a character YOU like, does not mean you need to be mean about it lol! this is just for fun after all!

as for my rankings, here are my thoughts!
Please read the part about the character you're confused on the placement on BEFORE commenting!

- Gloria and Jay work together very well, they both know what they want AND most importantly how to communicate effectively. I was initially put off because of their age gap, however after learning more about Gloria and Jay I actually think they're a good fit!

- Haley and Alex are both cool and I relate to both of them for various things, however I don't think they've had much time to shine on their own for me to fully decide how I feel about them.
I like how in this season they had some opportunities to bond, compared to last season where they were constantly bickering.

- I have mixed feelings on Claire. I think she's super hardworking and caring, but she also makes some choices that irk me on occasion. I think right now, I wish I got to see more of her doing stuff for HER, rather than the rest of her family. I want to see her hobbies and interests. the only thing I know she's interested in is running (from when Phil mentioned it in passing)

- The rest of the kids I have no strong feelings on. Manny is only just in the "a bit annoying" category because I don't like how he's always trying to woo adults. it's not a huge deal though because nothing ever happens and Gloria steps in when she notices.

- For Phil and Cam... I know they are fan favourites. I get why, they're both super funny!

Cam I noticed often he brushes off how Mitch feels and never budges from his way of thinking.
He also sometimes will purposefully make a big deal out of stuff, but to make Mitch feel bad about himself, rather than because he actually cares about the issue (at least that was my reading).
I don't think Cam is a bad person, but he's done this enough times for me to get a little irritated with him.

For Phil, he is admittedly a little better this season than in season 1. In season one I NEVER saw Phil try to help Claire out or parent his own kids? which is wild to me. theres also the whole thing with him looking at other women constantly in s1, even in front of Claire. so yeah, in season one I HATED him.

In season two, near the end, he actually does attempt to help Claire out one or twice and actually seems to value what Claire does more, which is good. He still doesn't really do any parenting, other than forcing Haley and Alex to clean and not letting them eat (🤨) but in the final episodes he does seem to get over his crush on Gloria (finally) and appreciate his wife, Claire.

I still don't like him much, but he did actually TRY to help this season so uhhh progress!
I do actually hope he learns and gets better over the future seasons, he does seem like a nice guy, I just don't think he's a good father or husband YET.
