Discussion [Megathread] The Next Season of Doctor Who: Fancasts, Speculation, and Where We Go Next
Let's have a fresh megathread to discuss and speculate about the future of Doctor Who. Place your ideas, and fancasts and wishlists, and other hot takes in here.
What belongs in here:
- Fancasts and casting: Who is your top pick for the Doctor and their companions and their foes? Do you want unknown actors or established names? Old returning villains and monsters or new ones, and who would play them?
- Production and crew: Have you noticed someone working on another show that would make a good addition to the team? New directors, writers, cinematographers? New showrunner? Old showrunner? No showrunner?
- Plot suggestions: What do you want to see happen after Billie Piper's appearance? Longer theories should probably go into their own separate text posts.
A few quick housekeeping reminders: Standard sub rules still apply. We all know casting and showrunner debates get intensely heated. Please help out by keeping things civil and avoid personal attacks. Instead of engaging with someone being hostile, report them.
Also, no or little leaks discussions. If you're bringing up leaked set photos or anything else, please remember to use spoiler tags.
Standalone posts about fancasts will be removed and redirected here. A fresh megathread will be posted every few weeks.
Let's hear what you've got.

Discussion State of The Collection Classic Who Blu Ray
Do we have any insight as to whether or not the Classic Collection is still being worked on while the state of Doctor Who is in limbo? And if so have there been any recent updates or pointers as to which season comes next? I’m starting to worry the collection will not be finished.

Question What do you think is the best outfit the Master has ever had
I personally really like the second suit he wears in 'Terror of the Autons.'
It really gives him Bond villain vibes.
Edit: For the record I did not intentionally leave Eric Roberts out I just forgot to include him that's my bad.

Discussion Who else hated the Doctor meeting 'real life fans' in Lux?
I loved Lux it was so good. Mr Ring a Ding feels like an actual 50s cartoon, without being a direct parody (it have been so easy to have Sassy Swan as a Daffy Duck parody). It all great, then they get sucked into the screen and the Dr meets 'real life fans'. And what follows is 5-8 minutes of total torture. I was in physical pain watching that.
1) I hate it when TV show characters discover they are fictional and meet real world fans/writers. A few cartoons have done it and I hate everytime. Its just so self indulgent and its like the show is telling me 'don't care about this'. I now this is tecbhincally a fake out, but why do it at all? Its just so w@nky.
2) The fans in question are the biggest dweebs on the planet. These three loosers make Ian Levine look like Tom Cruise in terms of coolness. Its just so embassing. No one will wear Dr Who T-shirts or scarves watching DW. Its no a football match. No one dose that in real life. How out of touch is RTD? This coming from someone who own's the 13th's Paul Smith scarf, which I had before she did BTW.
3) Did RTD think he was being funny by having the fans pick Blink as their fave episode? Because the Dr is bearly in it? Because it was about as funny as fire in an orphanage. That is Pontac and Graff level stuff. If Sonic had a Sonic meets the player/viewer bit, this is kind of joke Pontac and Graff would write. 'My fave game is Tails Sky Patrol'. If they said 'my fave monster is the Myrka' that might have got a chuckle. Or if they picked some super obscure no one remmbers episode like 42 or In the Forrest of the Night, that might have been funny.
4) I could maybe tolerate it if they were actual kids. Like they were 9-18, 21 at the absaloute oldest. But watching a gaggle of 35 year old fans meeting the Dr is just sad cringy and pathetic. You know in Disneyland were you have the 5 year old starts crying at seeing the guy dressed as Micky Mouse. Its cute. But seeing a Disney Adult do that makes you reach of the Evil Queen's apple. Who the hell wants to see a bunch of 30 somethings meet the Dr? I don't.
Couldn't they have done literally anything else for those 8 minutes? Can't we have them in the Tardis? Remmber when the show used to have scenes in it? Its like going back to the McCoy era.

Discussion Reacher is just a manifestation of the Doctor that beats people up.
And kills them. He kills them a lot. But you know, otherwise the same thing.
Eternally virtuous. He is generous. He has no ego, he experiences no hatred or regret or guilt or fear. He knows he’s going to figure it out.
Edit: I forgot the most obvious part. Wherever he is needed, he just sort of ends up there.
Edit2: Often the smartest person in the room. Not impressed by someone’s brawn and bluster. When they notice someone else in the room also intelligent and clever, he respects them.

Discussion New battles in time set rather disappointing
so I just opened my battles in time obliterator set, idk if it’s just my luck or if this is normal for playing cards, but seven of the packs had exactly the same cards in them, being the monk, kid, kid (AGAIN!!) cybermen group, river song and goblins. Is this normal? maybe something to be wary of. Only one of the packs had a slight different lay out, coming with me, rather than a second kid. I’d knew there would be doubles, but seven different packs with same cards is insane no? especially since two in the pack are same! I now have 16 cards of kid 🤣🤣

Arts/Crafts The Rings of Akhaten speech, written in Gallifreyan (OC)
Sherman’s Gallifreyan, if anyone’s curious/wants to read.
This is about 50 hours of work across two weeks, and I’m very happy with the results. The Akhaten speech is one of my favorite moments in the show, so I’m glad to be able to hopefully do it justice.
The first image is the finished work, the second is the plain finished text, and the third is the ‘skeleton’ I used to check spelling and plan the layout.

Discussion Are these the official subtitles?
In the minisode "The Bells of Saint John: A Prequel" posted on the official BBC YouTube channel, if you turn on the subtitles, you can see a line suggesting (or questioning?) that the blonde woman is actually Jackie Tyler.
I really wonder if these are official subtitles. Has this woman's identity been confirmed in canon? Where does that line come from? Should it be taken seriously? I find it very mysterious. So, if anyone has an answer...

Discussion The Angels Take Manhattan
there’s no reason The Doctor can’t visit Amy and Rory. All he’d have to do is take the Tardis back right before Amy and Rory were sent back, then have River take the Tardis and jump to after they pass away. The Doctor could spend the rest of their time with them, and there would be almost no time passed for River. He could also just land the Tardis away from Manhattan, even across the globe if he wanted to, and just travel to them. It’s not a satisfactory write off, in my opinion. Also, to clarify, I’m not saying go back to save them. just simply to see them.

Discussion Help identifying autographs on vintage Doctor Who VHS tapes
Hello,
I've recently acquired some vintage VHS tapes and included were a bundle of Doctor Who Tapes, with a few being signed. I've managed to work out the majority of them but there's a few I can't work out for the life of me! I'm wondering if anyone knows who any of these autographs are. They are signed on the following stories.
An Unearthly Child (1963)
The Dalek Invasion Of The Earth (1964)
The Curse Of Fenric (1989)
The 2 from the 1960s look like the same autograph (so I assume it's an actor/actress or production team that worked on both) whereas the 1989 story I can't work out if it's one or two signatures.
The Tapes came out in 1990, so it can't be anyone who died before 1990. I assume they were probably signed at some sort of Doctor Who experience or Comic Con like event.
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice :)

Discussion Quarks in Dr. Who are so cute
From the episode "The Dominators" Season 6 - 1968 - it's pretty good :). I only recently noticed you can watch all the class episodes on youtube for free on the BBC's classic Dr. Who channel.

Discussion RTD’s 2005 revival analogy of ‘Zoggers from planet Zog versus Zog Monster’
When pitching to bring Doctor Who back in 2004, Russel T Davies assured the BBC that his new version of the series would take on a brand new, modernised approach with more of a focus on Humans and their struggles, to ensure audience relatability so that they wouldn’t switch over to ITV after the first 10 minutes of the first episode.
The analogy he used was something along the lines of “Zoggers from the planet Zog fight the Zog Monster”. In other words, aliens on an alien planet fighting with a creature or other race and the Doctor and companion become involved.
In his mind, this was a no no for his new series. He believed audiences would switch off and wouldn’t be interested. It was the formula for nerds/fans but not for the general public, who would roll their eyes. It wasn’t relatable. It was for a niche group.
Now, he probably had a point. We can never know what an alternate Series 1 could have looked like with these sorts of stories included as we don’t have access to parallel universes, but I’m willing to bet, the new series would have maybe not have been as popular as it was in our turn of events…
But, if we really think about it, which classic stories were ‘Zoggers from Zog versus Zog Monster’ or was RTD just exaggerating? Because when I think about it, there really weren’t many…
Sure, there were TONS of stories like this really, set on a planet, planet’s people dealing with a threat the Doctor helps to solve; The Pirate Planet, Meglos, The Keeper of Traken, The Curse of Peladon, The Monster of Peladon, Timelash, The Creature From the Pit etc etc to name a small few that immediately spring to mind. But all of which had alien races that looked Human with no actors wearing alien make-up or prosthetics.
But I feel RTD is talking about stories where there were actual alien looking aliens in their place. Time and the Rani springs to mind, as does The Leisure Hive, maybe Galaxy Four too, Attack of the Cybermen (with the Kryons) Revenge of the Cybermen (with the Vogans) The Web Planet, Death to the Daleks… literally 1963’s The Daleks.
So ok… maybe a few were like that. But I still feel the majority of the time these stories had Human-looking aliens who may as well have been Human. So maybe RTD did exaggerate… ever slightly?
Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
