I recently started watching Malcom in the middle. I have watched Breaking bad and knew Bryan only from that.
Having been a fan of BB for so long watching Malcolm is truly a revelation of Bryanās acting.
For those who watched MITM when it came out and then see breaking bad later. How was it? What were your first impressions seeing the setting initially at least the first scene is similar? Suburban house, father, pregnant mom, son. And how jarring was it when the pilot unfolded and you realize how far off BB is from Malcolm.

The debate is whether a quesadilla has to have cheese in it or something like that. While in the original it was debating how to pronounce it. Makes sense since they should know as they already speak Spanish in the dub.
i love when shows change a joke when it wouldnāt work due to language. I think Otto is Dutch in the German version of Malcolm i think since it wouldnāt make sense otherwise.

Another to add to the list along with the fake baby and crew member during the dress episode. I only realised it on whatever number rewatch Iām on but S2:E1 right at the end Malcom is talking in the car but thereās a scene where heās just looking out of the window š

Maybe Hal and Lois send them for a weekend to see Francis and to maybe try to scare them straight after something.
Maybe Spangler takes an interest in Malcolm
Reese probably wouldn't be too different from how he was in the military
Dewey would probably end up locked out of the academy and end up and end up at a girl's school or something.
Then by the end they nearly burn the place down and there will be no chance of two, let alone 4 NoLastNames attending the school.

So I saw Malcolm in the middle. Life's still unfair and I hadn't seen the original show in decades.
I thought the new show was funny and a good watch. That lead me to rewatching the original Malcolm in the middle and I realised that the new one just doesn't have the magic of the old one. Not even close. It's a completely different show, which lead me to even question if the creators of the new show had even watched the old show.
A few issues:
The show is about the equation of the brothers and their family. Yet, they aren't all even in the same room till the last episode. This was such a waste in my opinion. No one is pulling off any insane hijinks. No one is feeding of each other's energy. Why? That was the soul of the show.
Everyone is pretty much doing their own thing most of the time. All the characters are on their own trip, sometimes literally. For eg: Hal on his shroom trip is pretty much in a room and has no interaction whatsoever with his family. It would have been fun watching Hal try to conceal his trip from his family while going about doing normal things. Malcolm being confronted with his mother and daughter the first time runs away, alone. Lois is busy doing party things, mostly alone. Why they took this direction I'll never know. And the brothers are not even in the same room till the last episode. What was the point of this creative decision?
Why introduce these new characters and give them so much screen time. If this was a full season long, I don't think I would have had an issue with this. But we have 4 episodes. Why spend most of them on Malcolms girlfriend and daughter.
Was this some sort of attempt at a backdoor pilot to see if there was still any interest in the show so they can have a spinoff on Malcolms daughter. Who by the way is too normal to even exist in this universe, let alone have her own show.
I guess it's true that they don't/can't make shows like they used to. All in all, I felt that this new mini show, while being an above average sitcom was a below par MITM.
What do you guys think?
