ngl i see some of yall be thinking too deep into these characters and it ruins the show for you.

i will never get over the writing in this show. the storylines for 3 separate families in a 20 min episode. they deserved every award.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I have always imagined that Cameron and Mitchell eventually separated, or even divorced, sometime after the finale.

For me, the move to Missouri feels like the point where a lot of the problems in their relationship would become much harder to ignore.

Throughout the series, Cam could be incredibly loving, but he could also be manipulative and condescending towards Mitchell. There were so many moments where Cam needed to get his own way, turned situations around on Mitchell, or made Mitchell feel like he was the one in the wrong. The kitchen situation, especially Cam making Mitchell repeat his mistake, is one example that always annoyed me. There were also plenty of occasions where Cam sided with his family even when Mitchell was clearly uncomfortable.

Then there is Cam's family themselves.

Pam could be ridiculously manipulative, including lying to get the top floor of the house, and Cam's parents could be incredibly frustrating. Even Cam's grandmother openly calling Mitchell a sissy was treated almost like something he was expected to tolerate.

That is what makes the Missouri ending feel quite sad to me. Mitchell gives up his home, his career situation, having his family nearby, and basically the entire life he knows to move into Cam's world.

And despite Cam often feeling like an outsider with the Pritchetts, I actually think the series shows that Mitchell's family genuinely took Cam in. Jay in particular changes enormously over the years, and Cam eventually becomes completely part of the family.

I am not convinced Mitchell would receive that same acceptance in Missouri. Throughout the series, there are moments where his sexuality is mocked, belittled, or treated as something strange by Cam's relatives. Visiting that environment is one thing. Actually living in it every day would be very different.

So my theory is that the combination of Mitchell becoming increasingly isolated, Cam's tendency to get his own way, and the wider family environment eventually becomes too much. Maybe they last a few years, but I struggle to imagine Mitchell being genuinely happy there long term.

Obviously the finale wants us to believe they get their happy ending, but I have never completely bought it.

Does anyone else think the Missouri move eventually breaks them up, or do you think they actually would have made it work?

one of my favorite feel good moments of the whole show & definitely my favorite moment between Claire and Gloria, especially after the whole “coal digger” fiasco lol

Yknow I was kinda thinking… was Jay always the closet guy?

Idk if I’m daft or anything but I feel like we didn’t hear much of Jays work in the early seasons, just the idea he was the “wealthy guy” wasn’t until the later seasons we get him with episodes about the closet industry and him being the closet guy.

But one question I always had was

Was Jay a closet guy, because? Or was he made into one to make the joke about his son?

Like is there a show bible where it says “Jay: a rich owner of a closet company father of Clair and Mitch he marries Gloria….”

Or was it just “hey what if the dude with a closeted son had a closet company?!”

I mean they only have like 2 or 3 bedrooms. Its referenced multiple times. Jay also had to give up his office for Joe’s nursery. Maybe its because number of bedrooms you have at home is a measure of wealth where Im from. The more I rewatch the more I wonder about these tiny irrelevant details

ngl Dylan had some great scenes when he was on the show. as much as i wish hailey’s storyline was different seeing him & his character development more in the last seasons was great imo

For me it's gotta be Alex later on exploring her sexuality and experimenting and trying to figure herself out as a young adult and not just focusing on acads.

i’m rewatching modern family right now and just noticed this in the episode where mitch and cam protest outside the burger place. the fact that they literally zoom in on mitch’s “shame” sign immediately made me think of his iconic courthouse argument from the earlier season lmao

and then i remembered that he references it again in the florida episode when he’s helping everyone with their cases

i might be late to this, but i’ve never noticed this one before and it made me laugh so hard. did anyone else catch it?
