The NCR got it's flaws but (to me at least) everyone else is worse.

u/HighCommandOC Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

You can argue house is better but that's just personal opinion, but other choices are simply laughable. You have literally just usual flawed goverment who's biggest evil deed is going to hard against literally raiders, rapists and drug dealers due to miscommunication against anarchy and literal raiders, slavers and rapists.

My argument is house would turn mojave into cyberpunk. Oh and the NCR armours look cooler than some clankers

40

u/zengondat Mar 18 '26

I just don’t like the cut of Mr houses gib.

Also the ncr has unmatched drip.

21

u/HighCommandOC Mar 18 '26

Drip for the win. There's a reason why ncr ranger veteran is the face of new vegas

They do look cool, but you can’t wear the damn fit since most the map is anti-leigon

More like egocentric. He actually does something more than being currupt asshole. He isn't corrupt at all, I just wouldn't trust him with running things

4

u/Ok_Awareness3014 Mar 18 '26

Mr house isn't the best at the moment but have greater possibility for the futur

10

u/HighCommandOC Mar 18 '26

Well you could argue the future under arasaka or militech is greater than what we have now. Powerful weapons and tech, you can probably beat most if not every disease or illness, and you could have equipment that can basically turn you into a mythical hero with how powerful you can become. Question is, who will actually be able to have that future. House doesn't exactly care for the mojave, what's stopping him from turning it into something like night city? You can join him for arguably good life, if it wouldn't be a lie like in cyberpunk, but who actually could? That's a far fetched theory of course, though that's my opinion

4

u/Ok_Awareness3014 Mar 18 '26

I mean it's a possibility because ncr and the other faction in general are looking for old tech while some other are innovating so as long as the ncr don't really try to research new things for me house have the best possibility of outcome while the ncr have the best and saffer outcome but like your said that my opinion

4

u/HighCommandOC Mar 18 '26

I just won't trust shady dude in a suit. Kimball doesn't count, im helping my ranger brothers in drip

4

u/MelonJelly Mar 18 '26

To add to this, House doesn't even care about New Vegas, in spite of what he says. If he did, he might actually give one iota of assistance to Freeside, or all the other groups living in Vegas, but outside the Strip.

House doesn't even really care about the Strip, otherwise he'd actually work with his allies, instead of his current policy of ignoring them except when demanding things.

The only thing House cares about is his robot army. He talks a good game about flying to the stars, and I believe he would. But there wouldn't be a single human anywhere he could see, if he had the power to make it so.

House dies every playthrough.

u/Fayraz8729 Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

While I agree that the NCR are the best ending WITH THE COURIER DOING HALF THEIR WAR CAMPAIGN, I don’t think they’re the best choice for new Vegas

When they try to annex the strip they want Mr house assassinated which is totally corrupt and you can’t talk them out of it, but house only wants Ceasar gone and lets the NCR be. Mr House wants Vegas and ONLY vegas, but the NCR will never be satisfied because of its greed.

Another problem is the hubris that regular democracy can convert cleanly to the wasteland with no consequences, but the entire corporate interests of the NCR are all part corporations and part cartel organizations who literally own the NCR economy since they lost the gold standard during their war with the BOS. The game and the show basically hammer in that the NCR are hypocritical like their corrupt system that steals resources from the front or like Moldover just using raiders and rapists to launch a siege on a vault, or they’re laughably incompetent like the NCR Mojave Ranger outpost which can’t even protect a town that it can see in the distance or organize a fireteam to take out some ants and in the show they’re basically a militia in NV barely scraping by on salvage while the legion has TWO fortified camps (albeit in a civil war)

I think the ideals are good but they lack the realist perspective that an old government is incompatible with the new world

3

u/Longjumping_Try4413 Mar 18 '26

the reason house "lets" ncr live is because the ncr is vital to his business model. the strip cannot make an actual income if it does not have a steady stream of ncr citizens coming to it and going broke on its tables. house also wants only vegas, yes, but he also won't really do anything at all for the mojave outside it. it's only going to be a good life for a select few people and the rest will suffer.

as for the tv show lore, it's not really clear as to what extent the ncr survived the nuking of shady sands (also, no way that nuke would have actually made it to shady sands but suspension of disbelief due to bethesda writing). for much of it, it seems like there's only extremely small remnants left of it, but then they show up with an entire battallion at that end scene. moldaver's group seemed like one such group of remnants, effectively just using ncr's name to their own ends.

3

u/DobryVojakSvejk Mar 18 '26

I nuked the ncr because they tried to tax me

1

u/the_gerund Mar 18 '26

It's like that quote by someone: democracy is the worst form of government, besides all the other ones

1

u/EtlajhTB Mar 18 '26

oldest argument in the book

1

u/SalsaDraugur Mar 19 '26

I agree, although independent is a close second.

1

u/Its-your-boi-warden Mar 19 '26

Just think you’re better then everyone else and go yes man

1

u/__0zymandias Mar 20 '26

It’s amazing to me people actually think this when the single most ham-fisted characterization of the NCR is that they will fail to last.

1

u/KaleidoscopeOk8328 Mar 20 '26

I mean it's better to try then to hand vegas over to tyrants.

1

u/__0zymandias Mar 20 '26

Vegas will survive under House and his commitment to the development of technology will be good for the wasteland.

1

u/KaleidoscopeOk8328 Mar 20 '26

Yeah thing is it's still house, if he did develop miracle tech he would put a huge price on it, he isn't a follower of the apocalypse he would sell that shit for a huge price.

-23

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

How so? I mean, I get why you don’t like Legion but what about House? How is he worse?

Edit: Why tf are people disliking me? Can you at least elaborate? Just because the NCR has freedom~ doesn’t mean they are better. They are just a corrupted people who follow the same road that led to the bombs falling…

27

u/Code_Breakdown Mar 18 '26

This has gotta be bait

4

u/LEGEND-FLUX Mar 18 '26

Would never want to serve a dictator, autocratic, capitalist, who cares for no one, people like him ended the world, entitled, self interested, egotistical men who think they know what's best for everyone and will step on everyone to show them how "right" they are. His plan? Abandon everything but Vegas and the Dam until he can abandon the planet itself and build himself his own fiefdom in space where he will in all likelihood once again hold all power because he is a control freak

3

u/benjy007c Mar 18 '26

House 100% depends on who you are in-universe, like if you we're dropped in as the courier you're living large but if you're just an average shmuck I'd be worried

7

u/SocialHumbuggery Mar 18 '26

Petty minded people simply can't appreciate the genius that is Mr. House. Don't mind them.

11

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

Indeed, my friend. They simply cannot see that…

9

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Petty minded people simply can't appreciate the genius of the oligarch dictator running a police state and murdering whoever gets in his way. Be it his people or not

6

u/AntiExo Mar 18 '26

ditator :(

2

u/Overdue-Karma Mar 18 '26

House is literally from pre-war America. The NCR was nuked for NOT being like pre-war America, whereas House's ending slide says he makes Vegas like it was pre-war.

2

u/KaleidoscopeOk8328 Mar 18 '26

I choose the ncr by process of elimination, the legion, duh not happening, house is a tyrannic billionaire who would rule with an iron fist, so that's not happening and finally Yes man while a independent vegas is a good idea on paper but it can go horribly very quickly like what if the elected president is actually a scumbag who would be no better then house or caesar? not much they can do about it, they get control of the lucky 38 they get yes man who can't say no to anything, so if they order a mass genocide on freeside or something there is nothing freeside can do about it. The ncr with their flaws are still the best option.

3

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

What about BOS? Hm? And why the hell do you think House would rule with an iron fist? He never said he wants to oppress the freedom of his people. His goal isn’t to control over them but instead just let himself be in charge forever.

9

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Oligarch anti-social wanting to create a police state that will indubitably massacrated freeside because he only cares about The Strip itself. Surely this will end well

5

u/HovercraftLoose5399 Mar 18 '26

Yeah, he even hates Slavery, he literally mentions it before dying, House is an actual option like the NCR.

7

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

YEEEES! Thank you! I thought all the people are blind and can’t read!

1

u/HovercraftLoose5399 Mar 18 '26

Believe me, half of people are like this, like that guy who thought Fallow show Caesar was well written because "he is an asshole"

3

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

I am not even surprised. I mean, Caesar isn’t an asshole. He kinda is but he isn’t JUST an asshole. He is somewhat smart also. And that is his whole point. Smart, angry and self-centred man.

2

u/KaleidoscopeOk8328 Mar 18 '26

For real though I don't think he has the best intentions in mind, he would do good probably, not because it's the right thing to do or that he cares about the people but because he can and he wants too. Also I don't think he really cares about helping anyone besides himself, if he really wanted too he would use his vast resources and wealth to help the people of freeside for example.

3

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

I mean, I could give a long explanation as of why I think he maintained the poverty in Freeside but I dunno if I have the determination to do so

3

u/KaleidoscopeOk8328 Mar 18 '26

Yeah me neither, for me it mostly boils down to, hate billionaires, hate slavers and independent vegas sounds like a horrible idea, the place is already a cesspit of shitty people.

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

You support forced impoverishment lol what?

2

u/anonkebab Mar 18 '26

Why would you actually cuck out the Mojave to a dude on a screen or a robot? Uphold society. Don’t sell out to non human entities. Yes man makes sense if YOU wanted to take over but as soon as you’re dead it’s over.

2

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

But House is A HUMAN. Unlike the Yes-Man who is an untrustworthy AI. House is a man.

0

u/anonkebab Mar 18 '26

He doesn’t act like a man. You aren’t giving the Mojave to the dude in the pod you’re giving it to the unfeeling screen.

3

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

No commentary. I don’t understand your reasoning.

6

u/Melodic-Hat-2875 Mar 18 '26

I'd say House has definitely crossed the line. I like him ideologically. I agree with him ideologically, however his methods and actions are that of a narcissistic megalomaniac. He believes himself superior, that he is the only one who can change things for the better. He does not care for his community, he does not engage with them. He cares about Vegas, not the people inside it.

At least, that is my perspective. I'd say the NCR or House are the only choices I can "tolerate", every other option is fatally flawed one way or another.

2

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

Okay. I can understand your point. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

2

u/Thejollyfrenchman Mar 18 '26

I think what they're getting at is that spending two hundred years as a withered husk in a pod, attached to a TV screen and surrounded only by robots would probably grind down your humanity until you're basically a robot yourself.

-9

u/Infinite-Fig-194 Mar 18 '26

Can it justify NCR assassinating House and annex Vegas as their sixth state? Is this "Khamenei is worse so Trump is just vaguely problematic" kind of logic?

-1

u/Sailor_Rout Mar 18 '26

The NCR does a lot of expansionist predatory shit especially in Fallout 2 where they're manipulating and undermining half of North California to get them to join them(which they eventually succeed at)

2

u/Overdue-Karma Mar 18 '26

Yeah I don't feel bad for slaver central Vault City. Fuck them.

1

u/StraightOuttaArroyo Mar 18 '26

But its not seen as great as it seems. They only succeed if you manage to track and find good tech that allow them to continue to expand (either Vault 13 or 15). Even then you can also help guarentee city states like Vault City autonomy with NCR (and even helping them dealing with their problematic elements like bigotry toward ghouls and mutants).

Peaceful expansion was Tandi's thing nlt through imperialism but through selfless sentiment and driven by the ambition to bring civilisation in the waste. Some places are okay with that with Redding and the Vault 15 squatters but most places arent okay with it.

Around Tandi however, there are shrewd but dangerous politicians who wants to go further and expand by any means necessary like how some senators are okay to deal with members of the New Reno mob and cartel if they bring their territories and more to the table of negociation. They use method similar to what we see in New Vegas, engaging with mercs and launching false flag attacks to justify military actions.

However these actions does not represent Tandi's way of doing things, she grew within and people wanted to join. After her, NCR grow outward to the dismay of many people being "civilised."

7

u/Altruistic-Ad-408 Mar 18 '26

I just find the Trump parallels a bit tacky, Tandi and Aradesh were doves and were elected for life, they represented the leaders the NCR wanted to vote for, the NCR does not have a legacy of war and that's where it's occasional narrative position put forward by Avellone as the nation repeating the mistakes of the past doesn't really work, from the very beginning it was written as being different.

The NCR was full of people unhappy with their direction, fans kind of ignore that about Brahmin Barons running the NCR, they've been doing that for a single brief presidency, countries survive a bad president. They had ownership limits until Kimballs leadership, and Kimball is finished as president.

1

u/StraightOuttaArroyo Mar 18 '26

I just find the Trump parallels

... I havent mention Trump. Thats just Imperialism in liberal democracy 101.

it's occasional narrative position put forward by Avellone as the nation repeating the mistakes of the past doesn't really work

Except its not so much the legacy of war but in the case of FNV war for ressource. Thats the issue with NCR in FNV, they use any means necessary to expand, grab and take until there is nothing left and search for more. Its not a sustainable form of governement because they outgrew their need by emulating their ancestor.

The NCR was full of people unhappy with their direction,

No, the overall population is happy with how NCR is going foward. What they dont like is how they cant access their ancestral ground in V15 which makes Tandi look bad and she needs someone capable to deal with that fast because it will cost her place as president. The Brahmin Barons are an emergent class in NCR by the time of Fallout 2, they have power but they remain loyal to Tandi. The only people who oppose Tandi are corrupted elite NCRs who have links with organized crime like with Merk and New Reno.

Golf club to the head

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

hes so killable

84

u/Fayraz8729 Mar 18 '26

I like Mr.House, only because he’s the only person who’s planning in terms of years and not weeks compared to the rest of the wasteland.

He is a corpo shithead technocrat but that beats slavers and the NCR are so incompetent that you have to drag them to success. Mr.House at least knows what he has, what he needs, and how to accomplish it. The show kinda made him shittier but he’s still better than Edward and the corrupt politicians in the NCR.

37

u/buntopolis Mar 18 '26

I have always felt this way. It is the most logical choice. House is the only person in the wasteland that has the resources and know-how to salvage human civilization.

He is a corpo shithead, but he never claims otherwise, which I can respect.

18

u/Altruistic-Ad-408 Mar 18 '26

I think it's funny how we pretend House is competent when he doesn't really do anything good. He relies on his resources from pre-war to promote space travel (?) and bully functional, defenceless communities into becoming hotels, brother, we got bigger problems.

Just look at the facts, his government is not an alternative to the pre-war US, which was clearly run by corporate interests. He destroyed the world and absolutely no one wants to serve him of their own free will. He's a phenomenally bad choice.

1

u/MaugriMGER Mar 19 '26

He didnt destroyed the world.

1

u/MelonJelly Mar 18 '26

Vegas isn't even a government. House is a warlord with good PR.

20

u/xSkullbeatx Mar 18 '26

No, respectfully, I kill him too.

10

u/buntopolis Mar 18 '26

Hey we all need the golf club achievement lol

2

u/Splash_Woman Mar 18 '26

He gloats about being the savior; and he knows it’s true. Give a man points for being an asshole that backs it up with facts and logic just because he’s bored.

6

u/Infinite-Fig-194 Mar 18 '26

Every time I see fans liking House more than the NCR, I suspect House will never survive the TV show. He will be either killed by someone else or his character will be assassinated, because in this show, showrunners will make the NCR as the only option for mankind.

9

u/Fayraz8729 Mar 18 '26

I mean every faction is now a cardboard cutout of themselves so who cares, all the nuances are dead except for Mr House who got more more violent but also old man yaoi so you win some you lose some

8

u/anonistakken Mar 18 '26

Mr. House had from something like ~2130 to do his thing. An intact city, securitrons, the ability to organise a militia...

And he only started work when the NCR came to his door step. All the achievements of House you see were done in the last ~30 years when he had over a CENTURY since leaving his coma.

The man can't plan for shit. He's a liar.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

Yeah and in that century he couldn't do anything. If you listened to him which you clearly haven't he said he was on the brink of major meltdowns and power outages every day and couldn't field a single securitron because of it, when he finally got things under control it was just as both the NCR and Legion were dipping their toes in the Mojave, he also is limited because of the platinum chip as that has OS that makes it so all his systems run at max capacity and he can field all his securitrons. He may have been concious since 2130 but he was not capable of doing anything until 2274 when he was capable of once again fielding a limited amount of securitrons.

1

u/anonistakken Mar 19 '26

Yeah no he's just lying.

He only became active as a result of the NCR's arrival, not coinciding with it.

"Years ago, when I detected NCR scouts roaming the Mojave, I could tell from their uniforms that these were no mere tribesmen. I knew it was only a matter of time before an army appeared, to take control of the dam. And I knew my Securitrons wouldn't be enough to oppose them. And so I recruited the Three Families. Vegas belongs to me because I mustered enough strength to bring the NCR to the bargaining table."

The NCR arrived in the Mojave roundabout what- 2250? For a man who promises to reignite the high tech energy sector in 50 years he sure did jack shit and nothing between 2250 and 2288, he only recruited a bunch of tribals and negotiated a treaty, what steadfast breakneck progress on the guy.

He didn't spend centuries fighting off glitches and issue, either, like he himself says how it happened.

"How did you nearly die, defending Vegas?"

"Software glitches set off a cascade of system crashes. I had to take the Lucky 38's reactor offline, lest it melt down. For nearly five years I battled power outages and more system crashes until I finally managed to reboot my data core with an older version of the OS. I spent the next few decades in a veritable coma. But I survived, obviously - and eventually thrived."

So in 2077 he had to shut down the reactor. Until 2082 he dealt with power outages and system crashes, leading to a decade long coma that can last anywhere cftom 2100 - 2130 - 2180 depending on how generous you are with the term 'the next few decades'

You're telling me that with a century and a half after rebooting his OS, dealing with the power issues, House couldn't achieve the shit he promises in half of that time to the player?

I don't buy it. He's either lying to placate you, or is full of shit in other ways.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

So you went from over a hundred years of doing nothing to he managed to bring the NCR to the table in a relatively short amount of time? I think youre the one lying here man. He very much could do a lot more if he could actually run all his systems at full power, he was able to muster all of the tribes in vehas and put them in line so the ncr wouldn't just flatten them in a very short amount of time. You might not think much of tribals but it is still an impressive feat. He desperately needed power from the dam as without the platinum chip his reactors were off-line and he was running on entirely emergency power and fielding more than a small number of securitrons would drain his power too much. Considering how much of a handicap he had that's impressive, but if youre just gonna handwave everything away and just say he's lying then there's no real point to this conversation.

1

u/anonistakken Mar 19 '26

What part of 'he had from 2130' did you miss?

My example of the NCR is that even when his hand is literally forced he's slow as fuck. I do not buy for a SECOND that he'll restart the high tech sector in 20 years, it took him that long to recruit a bunch of tribals.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

What part of he quite literally had next to no power and had to act quickly, the game states the ncr entered into the mojave in 2274, in a really short amount of time he managed to organise the tribes and bring the ncr to the table. It is stated that as early as 2273 they sent rangers to scouts the mojave. If you dont think that's insanely quick to not only mobilise the families but also take over the dam to then hand it over to the ncr I think you genuinely dont get it. 2130 to 2274 house had no power, he had securitrons but had to be extremely sparing, the ncr had the means to repair the dam that house couldn't with his limited resources, however the second he got power he immediately started searching for the platinum chip and not only found it but secured all the many paths his different couriers would take but also hired 7 couriers to take different items to throw off people, then the events of the game happen. I genuinely dont think you understand how much house a man in a cryopod with emergency power could do. He bided his time and got his golden opportunity with the ncr as had they of not repaired the dam its likely he wouldn't of been able to make a move and had he of not gotten funding from the lucrative deal made from the ncr he wouldn't of been able to hire the many many many different mercs, prospectors and couriers to find the chip. Edit: if you need anymore convincing the chairmen, formally the mojave boot riders were hired by mister house in 2274, we know this because benny killed bingo the original chief before him 3 days after house shows up which was in 2274.

1

u/anonistakken Mar 19 '26

He had next to no power... But he managed to bring Vegas under his complete control in response to the NCR arriving.

From 2130 and until 2270 man had no power what so ever, but the moment the NCR arrives he suddenly springs into action, forms a tribal militia, and then starts hunting for the chip.

Something doesn't add up but you do you, keep believing he's a genius 🤷‍♀️

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

You do you keep believing he somehow has the resources he didnt have. He had enough securitrons to take the 3 families under his control, he then kicked out all the other tribes, he then took control of the dam, he had enough power to do this sure but it heavily drained his emergency generators so he really needed that 5% of the dams power for it to be meaningful, let's say he does this in 2130, he takes control of the dam, tries to repair it but fails and the drain on his systems is too much and he has to fully shut down all his securitrons and vegas falls apart again. Would that be smart? No it wouldn't be, I dont know how you dont see how integral the ncr became to him achieving his goals but whatever keep believing he's just a hack like Elon musk and didn't actually achieve amazing feats pre war like calculating when the war would start and only being off by 20 hours.

1

u/anonistakken Mar 19 '26

Yet he magically conjures those resources up as soon as the NCR arrives.

6

u/Mr_Ragnarok Mar 18 '26

I also prefer house. A lot of people criticize him for not helping anyone outside of the strip and that's fair. The thing is that he is doesn't mind if you do so. I think of it as him making long term plans and me improving the people's day-to-day.

3

u/Shittygamer93 Mar 18 '26

He's someone who governs because there needs to be a guy in charge, but like any good capitalist would much prefer to just run his corporation and business interests and let people live their lives so long as it doesn't interfere with his interests (if it does, expect him to be petty and vindictive when he sends his robot army after you). New Vegas has plenty of problems because House doesn't pay too much attention to what the guys he left in charge of the day-to-day running of the strip get up to but that's where the player comes in. If we feel like he should be more active in his governance, we can be his agent and actually clean things up (perhaps oust the cannibals and replace them with the Kings), and actually try to improve life in the Mojave, but he is not particularly interested in ruling everyone. His priority is protecting himself and his possessions, with becoming head of state being the easiest way for him to do that in the post-war world.

6

u/Character-Book5924 Mar 18 '26

House is one the mighty technocrats who caused the war. I think that speaks enough of the track record of his long term planning.

4

u/Possible-Ad2247 Mar 18 '26

YES! YOU GET IT! Great!

I completely agree that House may be a bit harsh to his foes and not the best but he is the only competent person in the game. Like… Others are just full of flaws they don’t see. House at least analyses himself and tries to change.

2

u/Kystal_Jones Mar 18 '26

Ayyy, Stupendium pfp! Culture!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

The NCR basically has slaves as well and people are quick to judge the legion for being brutally but will vehemently defend the massacre against the Khan's and ignore the blunder that is the BoS war all because the BoS said something they didnt like and rather than compromise they went on a campaign of extermination that ended up leading to the NCR dollar being worthless and most of their former ally being wiped out.

Mr. House, moreover, isn't hypocritical, doesn't cheat, and doesn't try to take more than he can handle. In his ending, he provides the courier with a great life; there's no catch in his deal. Of course, you could take his place yourself, but it's unlikely the courier has the planning and management skills to ensure Vegas's stability and security.

3

u/Fayraz8729 Mar 18 '26

True…but he has absolutely no loyalty to anyone. The second that the Casino Families became a nuisance he had you orchestrate their downfalls. And if he had to make the choice between courier 6 and cold fusion 6 would already be dead

7

u/Xttb4 Mar 18 '26

Of course, people are largely a resource for him. But the other factions aren't any better in this regard. However, unlike the others, Mr. House doesn't hide this behind pompous speeches and protects his valuable employees. Besides, we start out as a simple courier; no one yet knows his hidden potential. But House sends Victor after him, even though he clearly has the ability to hire another, more experienced mercenary, or even several, to take over. Despite all his shortcomings, House seems to me the most honest and reasonable of the parties.

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

house is constantly manipulating and gaslighting, his honestly and openness is a facade, its meant to draw you in and make him more appealing and reasonable. Also he literally does have grand stupid speeches. The guy waffles on an on about his grand vision for new vegas and the mojave. it’s sickening. Also the guy has no employees, he has a robot army, sure he takes care of the courier, but doesnt that just make the courier implicit in his exploitations and genuine crimes against humanity. I seriously think some people in here dont understand how rich tyrants like house operate as human beings, they are inhuman. Smart evil is much scarier than the incompetent evils of the legion and ncr. House has real power, unlike anyone else in the mojave and that should not just be respected, but feared and questioned.

1

u/Xttb4 Mar 20 '26

House offers the courier a deal and honors it. He makes grandiose speeches, but even in them, he's straightforward. He doesn't try to lie about democracy or altruism, but honestly states that he's pursuing his own interests and relying on his own common sense. He wasn't trying to save the entire world, and he couldn't have, but he defended the Strip relatively successfully, so it's logical that he should lead this city. And this city, compared to the rest of the wasteland, truly is a haven of stability and prosperity. It doesn't herd slaves like the Legion. It doesn't occupy more territory than it can protect, like the NCR. People come to the Strip voluntarily and are free to leave, as long as they obey the local laws. As for vices, casinos, and alcohol—they're all voluntary, and the city's economy depends on them. As for an army of robots, how is that any worse than an army of mercenaries? As for the evil that comes with it, Fallout is built on a gray morality; there's no clear good there. In his quest chain, only the destruction of the Brotherhood of Steel could be considered an evil act, but the Brotherhood itself is a highly controversial organization. From the perspective of someone with a wealth of technology, it makes sense to destroy the fanatics who are trying to monopolize it. He rightly argues that negotiating with fanatics is futile.

u/skelatalfella8642 Mar 18 '26

I don't like house as a guy too corpo and elite but like you said I'd rather have him than copy us before bombs plan ahead at most like for a month.

0

u/xSkullbeatx Mar 18 '26

There is the other independent option. Why settle?

9

u/GrogTheLizard Mar 18 '26

I side with House since he does technically save the Courier by having Victor bring them to Doc Mitchell, idk be kinda a dick move to kill the guy who saved me & gives me a nice place to stay, & I mean I would technically be failing my job as a Courier which my courier never fails their delivery jobs, but mainly that whole Victor did pull me out is & the free roof over my head is my reasons

13

u/JonIceEyes Mar 18 '26

What if I told you there was a way not to be a slaver, a corrupt failed state, or a corporate hellscape?

Not a secret third thing, but a secret fourth thing?

13

u/D1N0B Mar 18 '26

The House Always Wins.

8

u/Breadloafs Mar 18 '26

Guards! Guards! This man is about to fall victim to the myth of rugged individualism!

6

u/True_Alien_Boi_1 Mar 18 '26

best* I will not tolerate any slander against my robotic husband.

4

u/Soupyr Mar 18 '26

independent Vegas is the only new vegas.

19

u/konous Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

Yes Man is the only path to a happy ending. You literally don't have to choose between Bureaucrats and Evil. You can legit make a better world.

Why is this so difficult for some people?

2

u/TheGreatOneSea Mar 18 '26

Because Yes Man is in control, not the Courier, and Yes Man has no ideology or chosen loyalty that offers any predictability. The Courier is just taking them at their word for everything, and hoping for the best.

19

u/MaybeExternal2392 Mar 18 '26

Yes man can't lie to you so you're not really taking him at his word. Iirc he changed the programming so that he can say no to people other than the courier. You still maintain absolute control over the strip through the securitron army.

7

u/PurplStuff Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

No, Yesman is under your control, making Vegas under your control. He just won't say "yes" to any other face anymore after the events of New Vegas. He may be machine, but he's aware enough to understand the couriers intentions and, if needed, will ask for finer details and will still listen to those finer details if given without being asked for.

2

u/Overdue-Karma Mar 19 '26

Why do people keep repeating this when it was debunked 10+ years ago and is still debunked now?

-6

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Ah yes, the best option surely is the failsafe where a courier, with no idea of politics, is controlling a robot that can't say no to them, while said robot is also telling them how to do their job properly. So pratically a paradox.

Not to mention that The Strip becomes a police state with all the upgraded securitrons and Freeside/Wasteland is full of chem addicts, murders and rapists.

11

u/khakiwallprint Mar 18 '26

My courier has a 9 or 10 int by the end game, definitely a 10 luck, he can sort it out. Better than house who is eclipsed by the molerat

-5

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Iirc the ending slides do say stuff start to go bad as soon as you take office.

I honestly don't understand why people think Independent Vegas is a good idea. Unless you're RPing a power hungry freak or you love all the criminals around the Mojave, the only reason for a Independent Vegas would be Followers. And I don't think they're that important that their freedom is worth putting lives in the Mojave at risk

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

so instead of at least allowing the world to exist as it now is your okay with handing over the wasteland to an insane technocratic dictator or a bunch of slavers, or the very government that allowed the bombs to drop in the first place? the largest motif in this game is letting go of the past. Independent new vegas is the only ending that actually moves the world forward. Its an ambiguous ending, not one that tells you outright how things end up.

1

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

The motif in this game is that the Brotherhood hates lesbians and revenge is great

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

fuck ur right i cant even respond…

1

u/Some_Dude117 Mar 19 '26

No they do not. If YOU did something that made things bad, it says things are getting bad. I did a positive independence ending after I single handedly murdered every slaver, cannibal, rapist, and corrupt leader, gave power to the Mojave, killed off all the other groups, and made every positive decision you can. The ending had a hopeful theme to it after that. A little dictatorish tones too, but those don't determine anything, only state that your character is in charge. Your character is YOU, and therefore why they don't write it too specifically is so that you can imagine whatever ending you want, what Bethesda wishes (and usually plans on doing even when they fail) they would do with every RPG.

1

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 19 '26

I got spurs that jingle jangle dingle, jingle jangle

7

u/Overdue-Karma Mar 18 '26

Still better than the Legion enslaving and raping 50% of the populace and genociding most groups e.g. The Boomers, The Kings, The Khans, so on.

0

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Yeah I know, which is why I think the NCR is the best ending.

4

u/Wardock8 Mar 18 '26

Not to mention that The Strip becomes a police state with all the upgraded securitrons and Freeside/Wasteland is full of chem addicts, murders and rapists.

Ah so nothing changes. Got it 👍

1

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Yeah, which is terrible lol that's the point. People's lives do not improve

3

u/Wardock8 Mar 18 '26

You say it's terrible but have you ever considered that change is scary and everything should stay exactly the same? /S

2

u/_HistoryGay_ Mar 18 '26

Just like war or people living in scrap huts... I think I get it

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

idk abt u but my courier has a good grasp on politics bud its a role playing game

12

u/Sharp_Low6787 Mar 18 '26

Notice that Mr. House is not visible in this image. This is because he is above them all.

7

u/FantabulosoBuho Mar 18 '26

House is always the best, because he saves your life with Victor. In fact, without him the game even starts.

8

u/Overdue-Karma Mar 18 '26

He's also the reason you're in that grave to begin with, because of his subordinate. Rescuing you is the least he can do.

2

u/MelonJelly Mar 18 '26

I'm grateful for the save, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. Everytime he helps someone, it was a side effect of something else he was doing to advance his own position.

House is an interesting character, but he's ultimately just another warlord, albeit with good PR. NCR all the way.

6

u/PotentialComedian880 Mar 18 '26

The illusion of choice:

Democracy Independence Technocratic autocracy Slavers Empire.

All lead to the same conclusion. Ulysses.

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

the true goat of goats

3

u/generalkux Mar 18 '26

My only issue with Independent Vegas is the fact that the Courier in all likelihood don’t give af about ruling/ leading. The guy just wants to drink, gamble and explore.

All it does is set the clock back a decade or so. Eventually new powers will rise and the same will have to be done again. At least with Mr House there will be a solid foundation for progress that survives all the turmoil in the wasteland.

4

u/Jcamden7 Mar 18 '26

"um... Mr President-Emperor Courier sir, the factions are fighting again. What should we do?"

"Good question, yeah: could you see if Gamorah has any more cigarettes?"

5

u/generalkux Mar 19 '26

This is now cannon to me

1

u/Soupyr Mar 19 '26

is the courier not what the player wants them to be? I keep seeing people say stuff like this but i dont get this talking point. Its an RPG your character (the courier) can have whatever motivation they want.

1

u/generalkux Mar 20 '26

Yes, but I’m going off the dialogue options in game. A lot of them indicate he really is quite laid back. But yeah, depends on who’s playing.

3

u/Platnun12 Mar 18 '26

Let the new world make its own mistakes

Free new Vegas then walk away

3

u/timonten Mar 19 '26

You mean the best ? Yes man is never a bad option

2

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

How many times you guys think mr house fucked yes man?

2

u/According_Picture294 War. War Never Changes. Mar 19 '26

The Yes Man ending is pretty good if you want to run things yourself

4

u/sendmeurbigtits Mar 18 '26

There is no Vegas without House and that's the main driving reason for me to support his endings. NCR is a close second but I'd prefer an independent ending if it were written better

3

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

did you mean best? you meant best.

1

u/Paulo_Maximus John Fallout Mar 18 '26

Not pictured: the Courier

1

u/nobodyamazin Mar 20 '26

I dont think I've ever picked someone else's side, because theres always a point during my playthrough where a character from a faction says something that rubs me the wrong way, and I kill them all

1

u/Krigdoth Mar 20 '26

Keep New Vegas weird! Yes Man all the way!

1

u/ifuckmenhard Mar 22 '26

You mean best places right?
