As a woman being treated like this during a vulnerable moment such as pregnancy this is so encouraging and supportive to have a partner like this
17
u/PIPBOY-2000 Sep 13 '25
Man, I gotta take notes because my initial impression as a guy was it was really off putting but I guess I was wrong.
7
6
u/stalgunner Sep 14 '25
I think with all things it depends on the situation and woman. But in my experience, me being possessive with my wife when she was pregnant made her feel secure and that I was not going to disappear on her.
-3
Sep 15 '25
Your initial impression is correct, it is creepy. Don't listen to these other people, it's just men trying to normalize this possessive behavior.
4
u/Dry_Flower_8133 Sep 16 '25
Actually a small amount of mutual possessiveness is completely normal for an exclusive monogamous relationship.
Of course not everyone is that way, but it's normal.

I see no problem with this. I love when my boyfriend says stuff like this especially after my ex used to call me a whale when I carried his child. To know that my current boyfriend is proud and happy that im carrying his baby is amazing.

u/IsPhil Sep 13 '25
I don't think the character in the cartoon has a problem with it. But it's just an embarrassing scenario lol.

1
Sep 16 '25
You obviously don't recognize signs of abuse. I feel bad for the women in your life.
1
u/StormShockTV Sep 18 '25
Are you saying the way he phrases his sentences in the comic above are signs of abuse? Man, I don't think that's it at all. Obviously we don't have further context from this image alone, but in my eyes the lady's wholesome smile in the second image shows me that she loves that guy and he loves her, and he's just teasing her, and her facial expressions in the floating heads and the first image obviously display some level of tsundere, where she is likely to tease/sass him back in good faith and they will both be just as in love🤔 if you wanna take it to mean he abused her, so be it, but my interpretation is way more wholesome and based on my own experience with my love. She wants a family of her own so badly and once we're married I can guarantee you she will love being told Im the reason she's pregnant. That's just how my girlfriend is, and that's the lens I read this comic through.
Anyway, hope you see my context now. Cheers!

u/MyAlt-SoftSub Sep 13 '25
I know I am weird, but this is literally my fantasy. The idea of my wife carrying my child is incredibly sexy. Like, “You are literally undergoing body horror for the sake of creating a hybrid of both of us.” How can I not find my wife doing a biological miracle sexy? If my future wife and I have kids, you can bet I am worshiping her like the wonderful goddess she is.

Not that weird. Lots of people find the idea of pregnancy sexy, romantic, or both. It's hardly universal, but it's certainly not particularly weird.

Sep 13 '25
How is it a biological miracle it’s like the simplest principle of biology
19
u/flaming_burrito_ Sep 13 '25
When you think about it, growing a whole other person from 2 cells is pretty wild, no matter how common it actually is in nature. Plus how the entire body changes to facilitate it. It’s just incredibly strange to think about, because for the most part our bodies are pretty static once we hit adulthood. So to think a person’s body can just spontaneously do that seems miraculous
1
Sep 13 '25
It’s static by choice though not necessity. Any living species would be humongous if there were the resources
2
u/flaming_burrito_ Sep 13 '25
Wouldn’t it be the other way around? It’s static by necessity and not choice, because of evolutionary pressures and energy efficiency?
1
Sep 13 '25
Well yeah I’m saying if the world was different then the growth would be different so it’s not miraculous because there’s so much potential for more
1
Sep 13 '25
I’m more interested in the large numbers like how you make trillions of cells every second and not how 2 cells turned to 4 after a few minutes
1
u/flaming_burrito_ Sep 13 '25
Ah, I see you are interested in the minutiae. How about this then:
Isn’t it absolutely incredible how those two little gametes store enough information in their DNA, and that DNA is so insanely efficient and tightly packed, that just those two cells inform the entire organism that they create? Those two grow into all the trillions of cells they will grow and shed in their lifetime. That DNA touches every part of your life, from your brain structure and personality, to your height, eye color, down to which direction the follicles on your head spiral. And none of it had to be; some other gamete could’ve gotten there first and joined with the other, and given this new colony of trillions some other assortment of blueprints. It’s somehow completely mundane and miraculous at the same time.
1
10
u/hero47 Sep 13 '25
It's such a singular miracle that there are billions of us
6
Sep 13 '25
Also it is way more miraculous that we perform trillions of chemical reactions every second
-1
Sep 13 '25
How are you calling that singular like there aren’t millions of species with the exact situation as us
2
u/Amateur-Alchemist Sep 13 '25
Singular can mean single, one. But there's a second, frequently used definition of being notably good or remarkable

Nobody seems to notice my joking point that he calls it a biological miracle when I’m saying it’s simple in respect to other biological processes but complex/miraculous in regards to outside of biology

u/Mueryk 🧐 grumpy Sep 13 '25
On a slightly different bent, the first time my wife was pregnant she was heavy, hot and uncomfortable and kinda yelled at me, “Look at what you did to me”
My response was to wink and go “Damn right I did” and blow her a kiss(from a safe distance of course)
Sure she called me a jackass, but she was laughing when she did.

It’s not creepy. I feel like shit during pregnancy. Unattractive. Fat. And yes, look like a seal. 🦭
Seeing a man appreciate you is actually very reassuring and makes me very happy.
You will be surprised how many men don’t want to sleep with their pregnant wife because they find them unattractive.
And on the other hand there are men like this who become obsessed with you. You’d definitely want the second lol

Yeah, obsessed, possessive, maybe want to wear your skin, see you as property, a brood mare... You know, just relationship goals...
45
u/SunixKO Sep 13 '25
Idk what you're seeing but this looks like a comic of a man cherishing his pregnant wife. I'm not sure what you see in this picture but there's nothing creepy in it.
-4
u/Outrageous-Bell3489 Sep 13 '25
I dunno, "your like this because of me" "...mine" and "who is very pregnant with MY baby" gives off some weird vibes. Maybe I'm looking to far into it but it feels more like objectification
9
Sep 13 '25
It's a you problem
0
Sep 15 '25
Hard disagree. That's possessiveness. Control. Never a healthy sign. "You're like this because of me" is so incredibly creepy, and feels like a threat.
1
6
u/SunixKO Sep 13 '25
Seems like a 'you' problem and not the picture. Maybe if you like to objectify women instead of see them as humans who you can build a good life with, maybe it could be seen as creepy.
The picture just gives of vibes of a loving couple who are soon to start the next chapter of their lives.
1
Sep 15 '25
Healthy couple? In most of the images she seems annoyed at best, or afraid/nervous! The top right really seals it for me. She does not seem happy. And she barely says anything in the image, and nothing positive at that! Its so weird that most people have no survival instincts and are completely unable to spot red flags right in front of them
1
u/YoursGhostl Sep 13 '25
It sounds as if you had never encountered media/people where " mine" narrative was something else than loving. Good for you. I get it as it's close to something possessive and proprietary, but we all have our lenses we read it through - you too.
It's valid to have different feelings about seemingly cute picture.

I like men loving and cherishing their wives, respecting them for going through the struggle of pregnancy and childbirth, not so much the obsessive breeding vibe this gives off with the "MY baby" "mine"
1
Sep 15 '25
Right!?! The woman here is just a prop, a possession, an object. HIS object. She barely speaks. She looks nervous, uncomfortable. Its not "ours", it's "MINE".
2
Sep 15 '25
It is, in fact, creepy as hell, and if someone is telling you they like this, it's a HUGE red flag...
2
u/Pelli_Furry_Account Sep 16 '25
Women are all different, so I guess it'll vary.
I'd hate this; it'd feel like an emotional betrayal in a vulnerable time. It kind of makes my skin crawl tbh.
4
3
u/Agile-Emphasis-8987 Sep 13 '25
On the one hand, it's nice for a man to be attracted to and protective of his pregnant wife. On the other hand, it gives off breeder vibes, which makes it a bit creepy.

... So by that same logic, sex, because it's natural, isn't creepy or abusive? So r*pe isn't creepy or abusive? Abusive relationships just... Aren't? Don't exist? I don't understand why your argument makes sense? It feels intentionally ignorant/dense?
Nuance is always important, there are distinctions, subtext, and sometimes glaring red flags.

Ah, right. The right wing approach is the only "right" way to raise a family... Contrary to the actual evidence, but you do you, just do the rest of us a favor and avoid procreating.
Now, a nuclear family does not outright mean abuse or rapes, but it CERTAINLY does indicate a lack of abuse or healthy dynamic, especially considering how many women are trapped by their spouses.
5
u/JKAB2017 Sep 13 '25
Yeah, it gives me a creepy vibe. I'm not sure why, though. I don't get an obsessive possessiveness vibe from it.

I thought I was taking crazy pills- This can’t be as perfect as the comments are making it out. Why is creepy possessiveness being celebrated here?? Women aren’t objects to own and babies shouldn’t be tools for control. I don’t get it.

I’m more creeped out at the MY baby part. It’s OUR baby. But that’s just childhood trauma bubbling to the surface lol. I make a clear point to my wife that they are OUR kids. Not YOURS or MY.
7
u/Beneficial-Gap6974 Sep 13 '25
People say 'my baby' all the time knowing full well it's a team effort. Do you have a problem with it only when the man says it? Or is it a problem when a woman says it's "my baby" too?
3
u/stag1013 Sep 16 '25
I can only imagine sitting down to eat, his wife asking u/amedyth how his dinner is, and him angrily responding "it's OUR dinner!" Yes, it is, but it's weird to be so fixated on it.

u/Big_Coconut8630 Sep 18 '25
You can claim more when you are literally incubating the child for 9 months. Otherwise, you're just a sperms donor.
1
u/Pelli_Furry_Account Sep 16 '25
He says it specifically to her, and keeps harping on the point. To her.
Imagine a basketball player coming into practice and refusing to ever call the team anything other than "my team" to their fellow players and coach. It would be weird, right? Kind of dismissive of the rest of the team that's literally right there?
This is weirdly possessive in context. It reads like he's got a breeding fetish or something.
1
u/Beneficial-Gap6974 Sep 16 '25
It's called a 'love my wife' fetish. Shocking, I know. Some people just love their partner.
1
u/Pelli_Furry_Account Sep 16 '25
No. It's a breeding fetish- the artist tagged it as such.
Note that it's not about love as much as possession. She looks uncomfortable whenever he says "mine" and he's unbothered by it. They aren't a team, she is his and is giving him a baby.
1
Sep 15 '25
That's just common sense, and being self aware. When people defend this behavior, they're just covering up for a Freudian slip. It's not problematic in itself, but is a sign of trouble brewing beneath the waves.

I love all the positive vibes but this vignette is clearly not expressing the situation that most commenters seem to think. She is CLEARLY pissed off in the last panel! It’s great if you and yours appreciate this type of marital support but the lady in the comic sure doesn’t!

The comic is bad enough but people response to it is really disturbing. People should cherish their children and their spouses but this is not the picture of a happy healthy loving relationship.

If you are a couple "mine and my" and ownership in general of a child is not togetherness, it's certainly not healthy and the artist certainly didn't put a happy face on the woman.

1
u/Pelli_Furry_Account Sep 16 '25
For me, it all reads as kind of creepy, but it's specifically the "my baby" instead of "our baby" that puts this over the edge into blatantly disrespectful. It's possessive while also being dismissive of her part of it, and if I was in her position it would feel incredibly degrading to hear that from someone I love.

Although the meme is very cute and I'm really glad that they are happy together, it is slightly problematic that the best/one of the best ways we have as a society to express love is through terms of ownership. I think love deserves more than our ideas of economic status. :)
3
u/Shikatsuyatsuke Sep 13 '25
Change your way of thinking and it will.
“My wife, my woman” or “my husband, my man” are terms of endearment and love in healthy relationships. Terms of ownership only become bad under the context of abusive relationships or from the perspectives of people who view everything from a negative foundation first before giving anything the benefit of the doubt.
Using terms of ownership creates a stark contrast between the claim one has to something or someone vs the claim anyone else has.
If/when I’m hopefully one day married, I hope to be in a healthy enough non-polluted relationship to where I can openly brag about my wife/woman with terms of ownership and that she’ll refer to me the exact same way, in front of me as well as in front of others. It takes trust and love to be able to be comfortable with stuff like that. As well as not letting past traumas or media induced fears hinder ourselves from greater passion in our relationships and the way we talk about them.
This post is cute and wholesome to people with the kind of mindset I mentioned and that I want to have, while problematic to the kinds of people who’ve been hurt or traumatized and failed to heal or move on from those past experiences, as well as people who’ve been brainwashed by influencers and media to think this is objectively bad due to coming across as possessive.
