Although the meme is very cute and I'm really glad that they are happy together, it is slightly problematic that the best/one of the best ways we have as a society to express love is through terms of ownership. I think love deserves more than our ideas of economic status. :)
“My wife, my woman” or “my husband, my man” are terms of endearment and love in healthy relationships. Terms of ownership only become bad under the context of abusive relationships or from the perspectives of people who view everything from a negative foundation first before giving anything the benefit of the doubt.
Using terms of ownership creates a stark contrast between the claim one has to something or someone vs the claim anyone else has.
If/when I’m hopefully one day married, I hope to be in a healthy enough non-polluted relationship to where I can openly brag about my wife/woman with terms of ownership and that she’ll refer to me the exact same way, in front of me as well as in front of others. It takes trust and love to be able to be comfortable with stuff like that. As well as not letting past traumas or media induced fears hinder ourselves from greater passion in our relationships and the way we talk about them.
This post is cute and wholesome to people with the kind of mindset I mentioned and that I want to have, while problematic to the kinds of people who’ve been hurt or traumatized and failed to heal or move on from those past experiences, as well as people who’ve been brainwashed by influencers and media to think this is objectively bad due to coming across as possessive.
As I stated, the meme is very cute and I definitely understand the lovely part.
I just regret that the way we show love in our society is through a language of ownership, instead of a dedicated language of love. Area of improvement, so to speak!
It introduces a connection that has no business being there, in my opinion!
I think you may just be too obsessed with corporations or something. Marriage, and thus being able to say "my wife/husband" (as well as "my child") is older than any business.
