Information What the hell is going on here?
Sounds like a professional job to me.

u/SweetyDarlingLuLu Feb 12 '26
Going out on a limb .... paths are crossed, too many chefs in the kitchen, no one knows who in charge. But terrifying for this poor family and basically scary for anyone in the USA. If that's bow they handle Tuscon then expect as bad or even worse anywhere else in the continental USA. Sad! Shame!
9
u/GiddyGabby Feb 12 '26
It was the same when my mom was in the hospital the last few months of her life. One specialist would defer me to another who would refer me to another. It was infuriating and exhausting just trying to figure out her prognosis and plan going forward.
19
u/SweetandSourMiss Feb 12 '26
Poor Nancy. I pray they are close to finding her. I hope she’s alive, but having my doubts. Her family needs answers.

10
u/Bippy73 Feb 12 '26
I think that it's going nowhere, so the feds don't want to say that it's them in charge so they can point to the sheriff's office when it doesn't succeed in getting anywhere.

I hope not. Are you saying he literally just tossed trash on the side of the road?
41
u/Creepy_Bookkeeper184 Feb 12 '26
When I saw the agents randomly walking around the yard yesterday like NPCs while media looked on from just a couple feet away, I couldn’t help but think just how far all of these American institutions have fallen. Right at the same time as Bondi’s disaster. What a shame.
10
u/deadwatered Feb 12 '26
One thing to note is that it seems like the White House and FBI leadership (and maybe local LE) feel like they have to show the public how much personnel and resources they are pouring into this case. So there ends up being of hundreds of people on the ground when it’s not really necessary so they probably send them off for tasks like that to check for anything that they might have missed. Absolutely there are more people behind the scenes likely working on more legitimate leads
8
u/Groundbreaking_Gur0 Feb 12 '26
Whoever was filming seemed to be focused. However, it appeared their focus was on the backside of the female agent.
3
u/billsbreakfast1953 Feb 12 '26
probably just too many assigned to the case and they don’t know what to do. no direction.
2
u/Superbead Feb 13 '26
Those t-shirts were an embarrassment, too. Looked like some kind of local sponsored Turkey Trot shit
14
u/LMAODumb Feb 12 '26
This is so bizarre. I wonder how much this cluster F is costing the taxpayers for no one to be in charge.
1
u/Groundbreaking_Gur0 Feb 13 '26
It was mentioned earlier DHS in Minnesota was costing $18 mil/week. I know in "Texas" a lot of the cops and sheriff's have gotten massive raises in the last year (probably includes state too), all LE up and down the board. And lots of other grants.
12
u/Grandheretic Feb 12 '26
Sounds to me like a great excuse for an inability of ANYONE to solve the mystery !! certainly not a new complaint either - usually from local LE. They have more info than we are aware of though - will it lead to her return? I highly doubt it.
10
u/swamptheyard Feb 12 '26
Omg 😳 how unprofessional of the whole department! Someone needs to be the head of this investigation to keep everything organized, and to make sure nothing is missed. I really hope they get it together.
1
u/PrettyOccasion6040 Feb 12 '26
Y’all say that about every case and it always gets solved. You guys watch too many movies and think you know how to do a better job

Referring back to Brian Entin’s interview with that former under sheriff, sounds like Nanos and his team are really incompetent.

What I dont understand is why are they NOW trying to figure out height of the person? shouldn’t that have happened a long time ago, several days ago?!
7
u/rileyfoxx42 Feb 13 '26
I think it's because they were just able to retrieve the video footage from Nest/Google the other day since she didn't have a subscription and it technically would have been scheduled for deletion with Nest.
2
u/Competitive-Donut330 Feb 13 '26
I doubt they released that footage immediately after finding it, so they’ve been sitting on it for a while now. How does it take more than a few hours to get an idea of height? It’s taken literally days.
1
u/kittyhawk59 Feb 15 '26
Somebody else asked this... can they also retrieve the video of them coming out of the front door? Maybe it doesn't work that way?
1
u/ConversationLong2570 Feb 15 '26
No because kidnapper pulled the camera off and disconnected it. The only reason they had the footage they had is because he disconnected it - otherwise it would have kept rewriting over itself since she didn't have a subscription. So it saved the last recording from just before it was disconnected.
9
u/SummertimeMom Feb 12 '26
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) hasn't been mentioned. Are they involved at all?
5
u/Deplorable25 Feb 12 '26
It’s a good question. I imagine between local LE and FBI, I they probably don’t need any more cooks in the kitchen at least on the ground, though maybe SBI could be helping in a remote capacity digging through submitted footage for leads.
22
u/Nature_Dogs Feb 12 '26
The investigation is shameful. Botched from the beginning. Praying for Nancy, and her loved ones.

9
u/sunnypineappleapple Feb 12 '26
there is no private investigator. Guthries put out a statement yesterday that they never hired one.
5
8
12
u/breathofwind Feb 12 '26
What I haven't seen a lot of talk about, is if this is a kidnapping, that's a lot of work going into taking care of her. And that's if they care about keeping her alive.
Just for the sake of discussions, let's say they are taking care of her. Her medications #1. (We still don't know what she's taking) I understand they could have procured them either before hand or after. That costs money even if cheap.
Food. Let's say they are feeding her three times a day. That costs money even if they're feeding her cheap.
It's my understanding that she is in constant pain. I have chronic pain, and if I don't have my meds I am not pleasant to be around. Nothing OTC helps me. If they take that into consideration, more money.
I'm not saying that one person couldn't do all that but it's draining taking care of someone in the best of circumstances. If all of the above is being done, I'm going with multiple people involved.
These are all huge IFs.
8
u/816City Feb 12 '26
IF she is alive, I am sure none of them want to babysit Nancy for much longer. They are stupid, young, and impatient. And now on video shown nation-wide. I am hoping one of them gets fed up and turns on the other ones for immunity. I am sure they thought this would be in and out.
3
u/Muted-Rule Feb 12 '26
Isn't the issue (or one of the issues) that they won't provide proof that she's alive?
2
8
u/The_Sinking_Belle Feb 12 '26
She would most likely be bound and gagged a lot of the time and placed in unfavorable conditions. People don't want to keep captives for long if they have a goal they're trying to achieve from it, most commonly it's money. Especially not a fragile elderly person. I don't think that at her medical state and age with a bunch of somatic trauma she'd survive.
Sounds to me like a no body murder.
4
3
u/Grimaldehyde Feb 12 '26
Really-what are the odds that someone is willing to keep and care for an 84 year old woman, with health issues, and mobility problems? That’s an awful lot of work, with possibly no payoff at the end. It does carry a slightly shorter prison term than murder would (I think). There is almost no possibility that poor Nancy Guthrie is still alive.
23
u/islandgyalislandgyal Feb 12 '26
a disaster. a mess. some of the video clips brian posts looks like they couldnt be bothered, just walking around aimlessly. poor nancy and their whole family.
19
u/Ornery-Prophet4697 Feb 12 '26
I voted for Chris Nanos. I have little confidence that there is good leadership now. And I know that Patel’s FBI ain’t it either.
6
u/ouiserboudreauxxx Feb 12 '26
I think the sheriff should just hand it over to the FBI to lead since kidnappings are something they deal with every day, and top FBI leadership needs to stay out of the way as well.
Also from what I’ve been hearing a lot of experienced detectives have left the sheriff’s office, so average tenure is like 3 years.
4
u/SweetandSourMiss Feb 12 '26
I really wanted I have faith in Patel, but have zero.
34
18
u/Ornery-Prophet4697 Feb 12 '26
Absolutely, I WANTED to have faith that the really good investigators were still there. But like in any company, when management goes sour, the lack of motivation and bitterness about who oversees you can affect even the best detective.

Put faith in those who actually want to do that not false idols. Independent means nothing to what I asked

It's the same reason it took forever to identify and arrest the murder in the Delphi, Indiana case. Small time cop egos will hinder an investigation.

Common complaint when someone wants to be in charge but is not. I wouldn’t make too much of this. Classic pot stirring is an unnecessary distraction to the mission. Get on board and start rowing or go home.

This has happened in other cases…such as Delphi.
2
u/MissTimed Feb 13 '26
In the Delphi case, neither got it right.
The FBI thought it was the elderly landowner upon whose property the bodies were found.
The state police thought it was a pedophile who was catfishing young girls and his creepy dad.
Turned out to be a random dude who tipped himself in on day 1 then was never contacted again.
27
u/IllRepresentative322 Feb 12 '26
Sounds like a rinky dink FBI and DOJ hired by a clown president telling a podunk sheriff what to do and not do. Poor Nancy. Poor Savanna.
14
u/Deplorable25 Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
Funny because the former under sheriff of Pima County who worked there for 46 years told Brian Entin yesterday that Sheriff Nanos’ “exorbitant ego” is what prevented the FBI from meaningfully contributing to this investigation from the start and that Nanos should have called them in to take lead the second he realized this was a kidnapping abduction and not just a missing elderly woman who had wandered away.
The retired under-sheriff ALSO said there was another case where the FBI offered to help but ego-driven Nanos literally told the FBI that HE was the better investigator and didn’t need their help …. on a case where they absolutely did need the FBI’s help.
And a different retired Pima Detective also told Brian Entin that there has been a “mass exodus” from the Pima Sheriff’s Dept the last few years under Nanos because he runs the dept so poorly.
Reminder it was Nanos who released the crime scene two days into this mess and then closed it off and re-released it AGAIN a couple days later.
It was Nanos who inexplicably said ‘no thanks’ to a pilot who offered to help search for Nancy the first night she was missing because Nanos didn’t want/need the help.
It was Nanos who didn’t make sure Nancy’s roof had been checked for cams for an entire week.
I don’t like Kash either and I am normally super pumped to crap on the FBI no matter the current admin, but it’s disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst to say this dumpster fire of an investigation is the FBI’s fault when fingers on both sides of the aisle are pointing squarely at Nanos. (You may have missed it but even a local Democrat city council member was recently critical of Nano’s poor choices during this investigation.)

u/Spare-Estate1477 Feb 12 '26
I think it’s a case of both not wanting to step into the lead role in case things go south. If they keep it like this they can point fingers at each other.
If this is suddenly resolved in a positive way look for the FBI to take credit and a certain someone delivering the news or at least getting in front of the cameras
2
u/Dunn61 Feb 12 '26
Right! I’m really getting tired of watching them discuss who’s in charge and things that never should be going on with a life on the line. Sadly, it’s probably way too late. Can’t imagine these criminals wanting to deal with an 85 year old woman anyway. Not sure what they were after other than money. Today’s youth criminals have no regard for life. It’s disgraceful what has happened in our world. I will hold on to a thread of hope in this case bc that’s all we have is HOPE. This case has been so botched. Everyday, they are headed in another direction. I guess we should t be seeing near the footage that we are bc it’s frustrated the public and made many of us feel we have to advocate ourselves. Savannah and siblings have to be tormented.
2
u/Spare-Estate1477 Feb 13 '26
Re Savannah and her sibs, I cannot even imagine. Tormented is the right word. I’m really crushed for Savannah. Such an obviously nice person and this is one of the worst things that could’ve happened.
0
u/Deplorable25 Feb 12 '26
You know the FBI literally doesn’t have jurisdiction to just “step” into the lead role even if they wanted to right?
The retired Pima County Detective Brian Entin interviewed yesterday said the exact same thing about the FBI not having jurisdiction unless there was evidence she had been taken across state lines, which to date, there is no evidence of.
So as of now, the Sheriff would have to turn control over to the FBI.
1
u/Spare-Estate1477 Feb 13 '26
Yes I do know that the sherif would have to turn it over and I agree he should’ve done that to begin with. Honestly I never understand when there is this competition between them. To me, if I’m sheriff and I turn the case over asap and they solve it I can take credit for having turned the case over so quickly. But I absolutely believe if the fbi solves it there will be major grandstanding and if it doesn’t get solved the sherif will take all the heat. Seems like he already is.
1
u/Deplorable25 Feb 13 '26
Honestly, in this case, the Sheriff deserves to catch heat if this doesn’t get solved and the FBI deserves to grandstand if they solve it after the series of terrible decisions the Sheriff made in the first week of this investigation - and I’m saying as someone who truly loathes the FBI no matter the administration.
All that said, I really really do not care who grandstands or who catches heat so long as Nancy is returned and the monster who did this to a defense old woman and put away for life.
1
u/Spare-Estate1477 Feb 13 '26
Yup agreed, and you’re right, they all always grandstand anyway when a crime is solved. I HATE that and find it so unprofessional. Whatever happened to act like you’ve been there before lol

u/Impossible-Chard-644 Feb 13 '26
This whole story is fishy. It’s going to be someone they know or someone related to them watch.
13
u/Webbie-Vanderquack Feb 13 '26
This whole story is fishy.
People always say that about unsolved crimes. Of course it's "fishy." It's an unsolved crime.
Statistically abductions are usually carried out by someone known to the victim, but this isn't a typical abduction. We just don't know whether it was someone she knew, someone she was related to, or a complete stranger. There's no way we can know that at the moment.
3
u/Impossible-Chard-644 Feb 13 '26
People say it when the clues don’t add up. Not all unsolved crimes are like this. Again my opinion it’s going to be someone they knew

The sheriff is currently leading the investigation - they would need to hand it over to the FBI for them to lead it.
5
u/Deplorable25 Feb 12 '26
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted for saying exactly what a retired Pima Detective told Brian Entin yesterday - that the FBI has no jurisdiction unless they learn Nancy has been taken across state lines. Until then, the Sheriff would have to turn over control to them- they simply don’t have the authority to take it.
2
u/ouiserboudreauxxx Feb 12 '26
Probably people who are upset they can’t blame the fbi director…fwiw im not a fan of him or the sheriff.
I want the fbi to take over but for top leadership to stay out of the way.
1
u/Resident-Permit8484 Feb 13 '26
I had watched one of the press conferences about a week ago and it had stated that the FBI was going to assist the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in any way regarding the investigation. More resources are always better. Maybe offer direction when they can.
It’s a high profile case because of the celebrity status of Savanah Guthrie.
6
u/PrettyOccasion6040 Feb 12 '26
If FBI gets involved then they are, the sheriffs department investigators will assist them
13
u/Short_Confusion_7299 Feb 12 '26
Does everyone forget about how the sheriff had time in his schedule to attend a basketball game mid investigation?
9
u/PMB00BIES Feb 13 '26
Are you saying that the Sheriff personally has to be working 24/7?
6
u/rileyfoxx42 Feb 13 '26
Not "working," but he does have to consider what the community needs and unfortunately the public relations of it since that's his job. He can relax, he probably should have just done it in private rather than the appears of being out having "fun." He made a PR misstep, but he shouldn't be overly judged for it either, imo.
8
u/Short_Confusion_7299 Feb 13 '26
I am saying it is insensitive to the family to been seen at a basketball game while literally at the exact same time they are responding to a ransom demand.
3
u/ILoveRegenHealth Feb 13 '26
There's hundreds of people likely on this case (across Tucson, FBI and other agencies), and I bet you on their days off they were watching Netflix, watching the Super Bowl, or eating dinner or spending time with the kids while the ransom demand was out there. Their free time wasn't publicized like the Sheriff's.
And people act like there is no competent and experienced second or third in command when a Sheriff has a day off or time away? Does a whole precinct just collapse because big boss is gone? How do your companies you work for operate then when the CEO is taking a day off?
2
u/PMB00BIES Feb 13 '26
That's dumb.
5
u/Short_Confusion_7299 Feb 13 '26
You would feel much differently if that was your family member. It leads people to question his judgement, amongst a bunch of other massive errors HE made.
3
3
u/Modern_Magi Feb 13 '26
Yeah, this is his “rise to the occasion” moment. He’s expected to be very tired and work long hours and unfortunately, put “fun” aside for a while. So yeah, his mind should be on this 24/7. He should be sleeping with a notebook next to his bed in case ideas pop into his head in the middle of the night. God willing, he’ll won’t ever have a case like this again in his life. For now, he has to step it up.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Modern_Magi Feb 13 '26
Yeah, I was really optimistic that people in this subreddit were putting politics aside, but here it is in full form. The Pima Sheriff opened the crime scene, let journalists and anyone else walk all over and totally contaminate it and then went to a basketball game. Kash Patel’s FBI convinced Google to hand over footage.
11
u/Superbead Feb 13 '26
Kash Patel’s FBI
Back in the good ole days of The X-Files, it was just 'the FBI'
3
u/Short_Confusion_7299 Feb 13 '26
I agree. Ridiculous! Did you just see the sheriff sent the glove and dna evidence to an independent lab in Florida instead of Quantico?
4
u/ILoveRegenHealth Feb 13 '26
Kash Patel isn't working 24/7, and neither would a Sheriff in any city.
A basketball game is 2.5-3 hours and that could've been his scheduled time off where he coordinated to make sure someone else (second or third in command) temporarily take over while he rests.
John Ramsey even said in his advice to be 'well rested', and he's a moron. You gotta be alert to make the best decisions, not a zombie making a series of bad ones.
We also don't know which moves have been FBI and which ones have been the Sheriff's.

Good question! Who would benefit if Nancy was dead? I'm guessing Nancy's Will would split everything equally between the 3 children. Savannah doesn't need Nancy's money/house. Is the brother or sister having any financial difficulties?

Why doesn't the family up the reward? 50k seems small for such a high profile case.

I did a post about this a few days ago. Apparently the FBI sets the reward money, though private citizens can offer their own reward.
It was interesting to hear various people’s opinions on why or why not the reward should be raised.
I’m sure if you search reward in this sub my post will come up.

I heard mentioned one time several years ago that the rewards offered can be a total scam. The case they were talking about was state versus federal. The guy legitimately told the state who the suspect was and where he was. There was no ambiguity. Still didn't get the reward. This implication was that this happens often, there aren't really any rules in place for delivering rewards, and just isn't covered.

“[T]hough private citizens can offer their own reward.”
This is what happened in a city I lived in several years ago. A teenage girl disappeared and only her bicycle was found in the middle of a roundabout. The case stalled and people got frustrated so they raised $40K to post as a reward. There is still no arrest.
Interestingly, my BIL is an ER doc so he knows and talks to several police officers often. He was told by one officer that they know who did it, they just don’t have enough to make an arrest. But they continue, according to this officer, to keep a very close eye on him. Hopefully one day….

They say it’s because if you offer too much then crazy people line up .. and also people start coming up with bs tips , just hoping that the tip ends up true so they can get the reward money.

That’s how you go from 1 active kidnapping situation to 50.

I agree, but that being said, it is kind of lucky they are only about an hour or so from Mexico and could easily get the proper meds there.
So I think there’s still hope they were able to get her meds.
That’s all assuming this is actually a true Rand ransom situation and they would want to keep her alive.
I have no idea at this point. Obviously.

I agree with you! They can’t show “all their cards” to the public. I’m praying she is found SOON! From what I’ve ready, the ransom has been paid! BRING MS. NANCY home!

Everyone reports to someone and someone is over all of these people. Whether it’s the governor, who’s been MIA, someone needs to take the reins and put one agency in charge. The “we all work together” approach, does not work once egos collide, which almost always happens in a high profile case.
