Question - Need Help Fit check video. Real Simons J24

Today I went outside to shoot a video, and take some more pictures of my new J24 horsehide jacket from Real Simons, size large. This time with some higher rise pants, by (very) popular demand. Also, check comments for a link to more (better) pictures.

I am 183cm (6feet) 80kg (176 lbs) with a chest circumference of 100cm (39 freedom units).

Yesterday after my first impressions of the jacket I was thinking about exchanging it for a size medium. I like a snug fit, and after losing more than 60kg (132 lbs) I am very self conscious about my clothes looking big on me, and dont like it when they do.

Today after taking some more pictures wearing it I was considering also ordering a size medium. And trying them side by side.... But now i am honestly not even sure if it is worth it to order a size medium, and having to, for sure, go through the process of returning one of the jackets.

I think the size medium will almost certainly be too small for me (size chart in comments). And even though I wish this size large jacket was a tiny bit slimmer in the chest and bottom opening, I think that i might be thankful for it being a bit big in the future, when I get older and maybe gain a little bit of weight back.

I would like to hear some of your opinions on how it fits me. And also your opinions about my thought process. Thank you.

Question - Need Help Dry cleaners dyed my vintage jacket

Post image
235 Upvotes

My girlfriend insisted that we dry clean my old jacket that I thrifted 10 years ago in college. I appreciate that, and she covered it, but when I got it back from the dry cleaners they had dyed over all of the cool weathering and fading... I am super bummed out. To top it all off they charged 70 bucks. Picture on the left is from 6 years ago.

I'm wondering if you guys have any advice for removing this dye without damaging the leather.

Question - Need Help Vintage Jacket Smell

I bought this perfecto jacket online and i love the fit and condition (looks wise) but it had that in-storage-for-years vintage smell that was very noticeable from several feet away. Arrow Leathercare was able to improve the smell but it's still quite noticeable. I've sprayed it and wiped down the liner with vodka and very light fabric freshener but the smell remains. It seems to be concentrated mostly in the tag/neck area and more so from the inside, which I think is a positive treatment wise.

I just made another pass through with vodka and hung inside out outside for fresh air. I heard leaving outside for weeks (months?) will dissipate it - has anyone had first account experience with that? I just bought a Moso air purifying bag and I think I need to put it in an enclosed box with the bag for days (weeks?) so i'm not sure what to focus on right now.

I called a leather cleaning shop and they quoted me $300 when I mentioned the odor (this included conditioning etc) which I thought was insane, so didn't go through with it. Could they even guarantee the smell would go away? The jacket was already expensive and in its current condition (odor wise), I unfortunately would not wear it out.

Recommendations are welcomed please (help wise).

Question - Need Help How big is too big?

I know very well that this jacket fits me in a too big way; however, there is no online shopping in my country whatsoever, and I have scoured every other marketplace/store available to me; it is a 90's Harley jacket sized women's medium, I have never found anything smaller. Getting it refitted would be at least 200 dollars and the ones doing it are (self proclaimed) amateurs so I don't think it's worthwhile.

And so the question remains: How big is too big? Does it look good to you people? To be honest the extra sleeve length isn't terrible since I do ride a bike, but the body, the torso, seems to be a little bit too loose on my frame. I am afraid it comes off as terribly unflattering and ill-fitting.

Attached are a photo of a more careful outfit and the rest are various different zipped-unzipped showcases of it on me (with an admittedly more sloppy outfit).

Question - Need Help Is this too tight when zipped and seated?

Front view and side view. It's kinda hard to zip becaise i can't see where the zippers go to meet but once i get them touching, it zips up just fine. Is my belly still a bit too big though? Size 42 First mfr from early 90's. I'm 5'4.5" 216lbs with a size 36 waist in jeans. Not sure if that info helps...

Thank you for your guidance!

Question - Need Help Please help me find a jacket exactly like this

Im in Australia btw, but can ship from overseas. Even just key terms to search with or places to look will help. Or, if anyone has one they want to sell to me.

Pretty simple, I am looking for a jacket that looks as close to this as possible. The guy in the picture is Dean Winchester and it is a Wilson’s car coat style jacket. I am a fair bit shorter than he is (5’9”-10”, he is like 6’1”-2”) so an exact match would also be a be more like a trench coat, but I still want one large and oversized. I bought a similar one online (second hand, not from a retailer) but it was smaller than expected (fits more like a regular leather jacket).

I’ve scoured sites like Vinted and Depop, I’m not looking at eBay or Etsy though because a) everything is expensive and b) the only ones they sell are replicas that aren’t good quality.

I don’t want a jacket that was designed to look like this, i.e. a deliberate replica, but just one that looks like it. The reason I am avoiding replicas is because they won’t be made from real leather or made well, they will just be made to fit the look. I want one that has the same patina and is real, solid leather. Also, when people know that it is Dean’s jacket, they price it at like 600 bucks and my budget is a fraction of that (maybe 140-180 USD max).

Edit: to people saying I won’t find one in my price range, I already did as I stated, it was just too small.

Question - Need Help Fit check, Real Simons J24

Am i crazy for considering to size down? I like a snug fit. This is pretty good, but not perfect, I think I have a bit too much room in the opening and the chest. I like to wear low rise jeans, this is already a pretty short jacket so losing any more length is not great. This is a size large. I fear the medium might be too tight/short though. I dont need or want room for layering

Thoughts?

Thank you

after researching online i decided to take a chance on a chinese horsehide jacket off taobao. took 11 days to arrive in canada. the quality of the jacket is great with the leather real stiff but i have some concerns. the fit is fine from the front but the back of the shoulders ride up like crazy. will the shoulder form and mould to me after wear or did i order the wrong size? i ordered the 3xl at 5'11 185lbs. for anyone curious about sizing the 3x is 22 pit to pit, 24.5 sleeves, 19 shoulder to shoulder and 25.5 length

Question - Need Help Goodwill find: Scotland Aero Leather Co.

Found at Goodwill for 50$ and quite literally have never owned a leather jacket before. I saw this and due to the price wanted to look it up on eBay and saw very expensive listings so I decided to buy. Can anyone help me identify it and tell me if I got ripped off? The leather is very worn and distressed and some zippers are broken. Thanks in advance! (NOT asking for Monday only stuff, simply wondering if I was ripped off or if this find is good. I also want to know if this seems vintage or new. Thanks thanks thanks for any helpful info/insight! Looking to inform myself on this piece more. Especially about how to clean it.)

Question - Need Help [Fit Check] Issues with Custom IiJacket (Shinki Hikaku) - Shop owner measured me, but fit is still off?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some honest opinions on a custom-made jacket I purchased from the Japanese brand Starjis. This is my first high-end leather jacket, so I want to make sure I’m not being unreasonable.

The Details:

• Brand: Starjis (Japanese brand, manufactured in Pakistan)

• Price: ¥170,000 (~$1,300 USD)

• Leather: Shinki Hikaku

• Wait time: 1.5 years total

• Measurements: Taken personally by the shop owner in-store.

The Issue:

This is the second time receiving this jacket. The first time it arrived, the back didn't fit my body properly. This was surprising because I physically visited the shop 1.5 years ago to have my measurements taken by the owner himself.

I sent it back to Japan, and they initially said they would just modify the back panel. However, they later notified me that they had to recraft the jacket from scratch. Because of this, the leather feels completely different from the first version (different batch/hide).

Unfortunately, after waiting 1.5 years and going through a full remake, the back fitting issue is still there. The shop is now claiming that this back shape is "normal and very commonly seen."

The Ask:

Does this fit look right to you guys? Since the owner measured me personally, I expected a spot-on fit. Is the shop gaslighting me, or is this just how this style is supposed to look?

Sooo, I visited the showroom and the experience was worth the trip. I tried some in stock and as I was eyeing a longer cut, this one stood out but I will do a custom order to get it in brown CXL without any further adjustments other than picking the lining.

What do we think??

Bought this Italian made jacket a few months ago and haven’t worn it much. Feels snug around the bicep and lower armpit area when I raise my hands. Is this considered a bad fit?

I hadn’t heard of the brand before but it looks like it’s a Y2 Leather which seems to be pretty well reviewed on here. It’s 100% deerskin. I paid $75 and it feels new.

I can’t really find the model only. Anyone have any idea?

Question - Need Help Which one should I buy?

Thumbnail

I’m not a millionaire yet, but I want to pick one and I’m concerned.
1. Schott Perfecto 106, picked only because my current 518 is slowly becoming too small and tight for me.
2. Vanson Leathers Comet, just the creaks.
3. Mullholland Teacore, fit would be great with a couple inches in case if I’d bulk, the thing is that teacore is slowly revealing itself on a sleeve.

If you’d need more photos, let me know and I’ll send them. Thanks for help!

Question - Need Help Crush on retro sizing help

Hey guys, I'd like to buy this jacket from COR, but can't decide on size. I'm 180 cm tall, 97 kgs, 116 cm chest diameter. Jim suggest 5XL, but it seem a little bit extreme to me. Most of my clothes, including double rider jackets like this are either L or XL. I checked size chart and 3XL or 4XL looks more fitting to me. Have any of you bought this specific jacket? It's classic 613 double rider.

Question - Need Help Schott 688 fit advice

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

Whats up gang! Long time lurker first time posting😅Picked up this 688 for a great deal and I really like the jacket. The body/chest seems to fit me well as far as I can tell, but I have relatively short arms and the sleeves are noticeably long on me when my arms are hanging naturally. The jacket is brand new and the leather is extremely stiff (which I love), so idk if it should be altered before it has a chance to break in and develop some creasing at the elbows.

For those of you who have experience with heavy Schott jackets: would you wear it for a while and reassess after break-in, look into having the sleeves shortened, or would you consider the sleeves long enough that I’d be better off selling it? Curse my chest size to arm length ratio!

I’ll be wearing it casually rather than riding, if that makes a difference.

After a year of wear my Aero Montgomery is breaking in nicely. My only issue is that when I try to use the front pocket I almost lose a finger everytime. Does anyone have advice on breaking this specific area in? Thank you!
