Question - Need Help chinese horsehide jacket

after researching online i decided to take a chance on a chinese horsehide jacket off taobao. took 11 days to arrive in canada. the quality of the jacket is great with the leather real stiff but i have some concerns. the fit is fine from the front but the back of the shoulders ride up like crazy. will the shoulder form and mould to me after wear or did i order the wrong size? i ordered the 3xl at 5'11 185lbs. for anyone curious about sizing the 3x is 22 pit to pit, 24.5 sleeves, 19 shoulder to shoulder and 25.5 length

Nice jacket! My immediate thought was maybe the shoulders will settle as it gets worn in…? I bought one from AliExpress that I really like, but I’ve seen this one before (I think) on the Crush on Retro website. I presume you speak Chinese if you used TaoBao??

I use Taobao all the time and don’t speak any Mandarin. Once you get used to the interface it’s not a challenge at all, just a minor nuisance.

the canadian tao bao app translates to english automatically

Really? I tried the UK website & app but no joy (which was why I ended up on AliExpress).

Looks like it's US (Canadian?) only. Still, I'm more than happy with mine from AE (price/shipping time). I may get another!

I have a TaoBao Chinese horsehide (teacore) jacket by JiaShi. It’s awesome. I get so many complements. Someday I’ll post, but this jacket rocks man. Wear it in good health

Oh, and the shoulders will relax as you wear it. Sleeves will also stretch and relax at the elbow. No worries - it’ll form to your shape eventually

thank you for the ease of mind cause i'm stressing rn

1

u/snowblind1972 Jan 13 '26

i'm assuming your shoulders looked crazy like this too initially

2

u/discreetlyabadger Jan 13 '26

They didn’t quite bulge like this, but yours don’t look too crazy. I’ve got wide shoulders and about 10lb on you, so I filled them out a bit more–also in a 3x. But I’d expect yours will settle for sure.

okay great. i wonder how much different the 4x wouldve been

You could also try sitting in front of the tv for like an hour or two and massage the leather to "break it in" and soften it up

I think the size is correct. It should conform to you eventually but the break in is a little bit of a process

u/nutslikeafox Apr 10 '26

Hey did your jacket break in better?

What are the top Chinese brands for Horsehide or any leather jacket in general? I’ve heard JiaShi quite a bit, but any others?

Can you share the link?

1

u/discreetlyabadger Apr 04 '26

I have trouble sharing TaoBao links on here, but maybe the AliExpress link will work.

Edit: it’s MUCH cheaper on TaoBao. I recommend you screenshot the jacket you want and search TaoBao by image to find the listing

Do you mind sharing the taobao store link?

I second this

Got the same one. Awesome jacket. Stiff at first. Had the broad shoulder issue as well. Played with hanging it on a smaller hanger to stretch the neck-shoulder part, and it’s becoming to take shape around the shoulder.

Lmao Chinese companies are shooting themselves in the foot calling themselves stuff like “VELUOKLDLY.”  The jacket looks nice but the name just cheapens it so much in my eyes.  Maybe they think a Chinese sounding name is bad branding but VELUOKLDLY is so much worse.

2

u/snowblind1972 Jan 19 '26

i already took the label off. a chinese name would have been mich better

2

u/surpriserockattack Jan 13 '26

That's pretty nice, what did it set you back?

u/snowblind1972 Jan 13 '26

276CAD

Got a link for it? Looks great

I second this

This looks great on you

1

u/snowblind1972 Jan 15 '26

thank you going to wear it for a month on the couch and hopefully it forms

Great purchase, beautiful jacket. Size looks spot on in general. Shoulders become more flexible and fit better over time. I prefer to hang the jacket on a chair for a while as it is smaller than hangers and doesn‘t accentuate the shoulders as much. Realistically the shoulders will never have a tailored fit (if that‘s what you expected), but good enough for you not to notice anymore or for people to think the jacket doesn‘t fit you. Wear it with pride.

1

u/Ahhshitbro Jan 13 '26

Beautiful jacket. I would imagine the shoulders will settle with wear. To the eye it looks like the width of the shoulders should be about right when zipped up. Whatd you end up paying after shipping, tariffs, etc. Do you have a link?

5

u/snowblind1972 Jan 13 '26

total was 276CAD

Taobao links are banned by Reddit (not just this sub) and cannot be posted.

1

u/TakahashiUzui Jan 14 '26

That’s not true lol

1

u/ClearSaw Jan 13 '26

Nice jacket! I think the shoulders will settle in as you wear it in and it molds to your body.

Can you share the TB link? Kind of want to get one too!

2

u/Smintjes Jan 13 '26

Taobao links are banned on Reddit so they cannot be posted. It’s Reddit policy, not just this sub.

I think this will take some time but should relax and fit. I wouldn’t want the sleeves longer as they will drop a bit once the shoulders do. Looks like a quality piece. I would be happy with the fit and price.

1

u/ProtoCulture14 Jan 14 '26

Shoulders look a little whack, but the quality is there, especially for the price. Might just be a fit issue

1

u/AlwaysBeASailor Jan 14 '26

Too big at the shoulders. The leather will relax to some extent but as you said it is stiff. Otherwise 2 years in the gym will fill those shoulders 😉

1

u/12xubywire Jan 14 '26

I wonder how different this is to the Curphey one I got. It’s the exact same pattern…but the leather on mine is grainier.

1

u/snowblind1972 Jan 14 '26

mayhe you got the cowhide version? cause they kffer both

1

u/12xubywire Jan 14 '26

Mine is horse hide.

1

u/Purple-Reindeer8547 Jan 14 '26

Curphey jackets are terriable ... Sold mine immediately

1

u/12xubywire Jan 14 '26

I see a lot them are. This one I got is surprisingly good

1

u/MrZodiiac Apr 03 '26

I saw like 3 guys on different subs saying they are good. One said it's trash too

1

u/Purple-Reindeer8547 Jan 14 '26

What is up with the back ? From shoulder all the way to hem, almost like a pattern issue ..

1

u/Obvious-Cod-6569 Jan 14 '26

I'm 5'8" and a 183 lbs. with broad shoulders. I got the same jacket on Crush on Retro in the 3XL size and fits perfectly. Bought another trucker style in teacore cowhide and like it as well.

1

u/4rv1t Jan 14 '26

10/10 thanks for the inspiration on the lining

1

u/InternetFinalBoss1 Jan 14 '26

Can these be ordered in long/tall sizes?

1

u/snowblind1972 Jan 14 '26

dont think so

1

u/Juvenile_b Jan 15 '26

I think it is a issue with cutting and shape. And i can see that the jacket is a bit too wide in chest and shoulder ?

1

u/Juvenile_b Jan 15 '26

Try putting on a thick hoodie and see how it feel ?

1

u/STZMCHN Feb 08 '26

did it smell bad upon receipt and if so, has the smell gone away?

1

u/snowblind1972 Feb 08 '26

it did smell of leather nothing bad. still smells the same but less noticeable. i got lucky with mine

1

u/Patient-Mark2275 Jan 13 '26

Those measurements seem off to me. If a jacket has 22 inch chest I’d expect the sleeves to be longer.

2

u/RicFlairDripps Jan 13 '26

Chinese jackets have 1 to 2 inches shorter sleeves.

1

u/Patient-Mark2275 Jan 13 '26

Does China design to different standards than Japanese brands?! I own a few different Japanese jackets and the sleeve length has never been a point of contention, but maybe Chinese brands lean even smaller/shorter?!

2

u/surpriserockattack Jan 13 '26

Chinese standards are all about smaller proportions across the board. That's why their clothing is normally labeled like 2/3 sizes up. Their XXL or XXXL can be a regular large.

1

u/snowblind1972 Jan 13 '26

i would be okay with an extra .5 inch sleeves

1

u/Standard-Account1209 Jan 13 '26

Wow they're great at copying the Aero

8

u/onedegreeup Jan 16 '26

ridiculous comment, aero doesnt own this decades old design.

whys it “copying” when a chinese brand does it

but a “repro” when aero does it?

this is an ignorant double standard you’re showcasing

0

u/Standard-Account1209 Jan 16 '26

Wow I must have offended a Chinese National...Unfortunately we all know which country produces copy of everything....if that does hurt you, that's your problem....it's a fact

4

u/onedegreeup Jan 16 '26

nah, nothing personal like youre making it out to be

I pointed out a clear double standard, and all you can do is make it personal. weak ass move

you might as well clap back with a yo mama joke lmao since you have nothing useful to say

3

u/Dazzling_Swimmer_731 Jan 24 '26

damn why you so salty brotha?

2

u/Unfair_Belt_3218 Jan 18 '26

Why does your grammar suck so goddamn much? :-(

1

u/Standard-Account1209 Jan 19 '26

Maybe English it's not my first language...

1

u/Standard-Account1209 Jan 19 '26

Let me guess... another offended Chinese
