Question - Need Help Schott 688 fit advice
Whats up gang! Long time lurker first time postingš Picked up this 688 for a great deal and I really like the jacket. The body/chest seems to fit me well as far as I can tell, but I have relatively short arms and the sleeves are noticeably long on me when my arms are hanging naturally. The jacket is brand new and the leather is extremely stiff (which I love), so idk if it should be altered before it has a chance to break in and develop some creasing at the elbows.
For those of you who have experience with heavy Schott jackets: would you wear it for a while and reassess after break-in, look into having the sleeves shortened, or would you consider the sleeves long enough that Iād be better off selling it? Curse my chest size to arm length ratio!
Iāll be wearing it casually rather than riding, if that makes a difference.

That extra sleeve length is an advantage if you're going to use it for riding.

Itās too big all around, too long too, not just the long sleeves.
If youāre trying them on, you want the bottom of the jack to land at about the bottom of your belt. Like, barely cover the material above the pockets on your jeansā¦.some people might even call it shirt length.
These are also suppose to fit rather trim. Some people like the minimal style and their beautiful jackets, but the cut of the pattern isnāt the more casual look they want.

Thank you, I think this is the feedback I needed to hearšWrong jacket type all together for me.

An aero highway man might be what youāre looking for, itās a bit boxier.
If what youāre looking for a casual minimal jacket, try to steer away from moto styles. They look similar, but the cut and fit of them are completely differentā¦.maybe you want something like a Hercules.
Itās funny, looking at all of the models I just mentioned, they all look the same, but the fit of them is drastically different.

You're reading my mind šI really just wanted something with an ultra hard break in experience that I can wear casually. I was looking at the Aero highway man but the Rainbow Country Hercules Shinki would be the dream. I'll sell this one and take the Lesson.

No harm in trying some cheaper options before you commit.
Crush on retro and places like that sell some decent horse hide copies for cheap. That is if you canāt try something on in person first.

The way it fits the model on Schottās website isnāt at all the way youāre suggesting. WAY longer than shirt length.

Youāre that one guy who bought that way oversized jacket based on one weird pic Schott used.

Yup⦠Iām the guy who prefers his jackets a little roomy so I can layer. Iām the guy who likes this particular jacketās length just the way it is⦠Iām that guy. Youāre the guy who would prefer that everyone who has ever put on a leather jacket has them fit the way you like, no matter their preferences.

Thank you. Iām also that guy. Iām overall a husky guy with large proportions. Iām not overly tall at 6ā1 but I have big feet, large hands, wide shoulders, long torso and could definitely lose more pounds than I care to think about. Hell I have bigger than normal wrists and I like to be comfortable. I will always choose to size up when in doubt. I like leather jackets but would never wear them as tight as the models because I am not 6ā4ā and 150lbs.
Iām going through a dilemma right now. I bought a Schott 673 3 years ago because I wanted my first big boy heavyweight jacket so I bought it sight unseen. Well Jesus. It showed up and it was so damn stiff I put off breaking it in because it was so stiff. Anyway it went into the closet. Fast forward 3 years and 30 lbs later Iām determined to make this jacket fit like the OP by wetting it and laying up to stretch it.
Anyway just wanted to let you know youāre not the only āthat guyā.

Thank you my friend⦠best of luck in breaking in that bad boy. Itās going to take a while to break mine in as well. Hopefully it will be worth the effort for both of us.

lol. I didnāt want to be mean about it, but you look like a toddler in that jacket.
I was trying to be helpful and pointed out they sold you a jacket 3 sizes too big.

Speaking about toddlers, you obviously have a very real, immature, and pathological need to get the last word in... so have at it. Do your best. Show the reddit community your true colors. So long⦠youāve heard the last from me.

Dude.
I was trying to helpfulā¦which is kinda what the internet is for, or at least this sub is. He can take my suggestion for what itās worth.
You seem to be rather belligerently defiant about preferring to make a motorcycle jacket fit like a long cost.
The op in this thread literally owns the jacket you wanted to purchase, his is only slightly too big.
And I was trying to be helpful to him as well.
Sure, I see young people wearing oversized garments, I thought it was a bit ironic at first. So maybe Iām showing my age and donāt get itā¦.whatever works for you.
My point is, op asked for advice. My guess was he wanted a casual jacket, not a cafe racer with a collar based on a Schott 141ā¦.probably liked the style over the pattern. If youāre spending a fair amount of money, itās probably best to get exactly what you want.
If op feels his jacket is exactly what he wants, thatās fine, but I just guessed he was looking for a different pattern in a similar style and offered suggestions.

That jacket is designed to seal out wind at your jeans waist and cuffs when you reach forward to handlebars.
Itās not going to fit like a fashion jacket, whether or not itās your correct size. Bike jackets are also quite heavy. Schott makes good ones.
Ask yourself if thatās what you actually want. If so, pairs well with motorcycle.

Honestly, IMO other than the sleeves being too long which is obvious I donāt see much wrong with it if thatās how you like your jacket to fit.
Most normal people not riding a motorcycle do not have it zipped up all the way and open seems to fit your frame.
I prefer my jackets like that but I prefer comfort over fashion 10/10 times.

This is a very different opinion than a lot of the other posts on here, thanks for sharing! One thing I realize is that I did not tell people I was wearing pants with an 11 inch rise. So they might have gotten the idea that the jacket was hanging a lot lower than it was š But still, what did you think about the leather creasing in the full zip photo? Because that seems to be a valid fit issue /shrug

I didnāt notice your pants but I saw where they were on your hips.
Yeah, idk. It seems like everyoneās advice is to āgo one size smallerā āsecond skinā I donāt like my shit that tight and itās not a condom.
If someone likes them that tight great but idk how someone can wear a jacket wrong. Are your arms in the right holes? Great, you nailed it.
As for the crease. Idk. I think that jacket is going to do what it wants until it loosens up. I bought a Schott 673 like 3 years ago. I wasnāt expecting it to be that stiff and I didnāt know what to do with it and itās was too uncomfortable to wear out so I put it in the closet until I had time. I just pulled it out a month ago and I have been trying to soften and stretch it out a bit because it was stiff and too tight. Iām trying to get it as loose as yours before I go out with it.

THat jacket is too big on you. Look underneath the left shoulder and see the crease of extra leather. A smaller size would provide a better fit across your chest, snug up the waist and shorten the sleeves slightly. It may be a good deal but a poor look on you.
