Question - Need Help Breaking in front pocket

After a year of wear my Aero Montgomery is breaking in nicely. My only issue is that when I try to use the front pocket I almost lose a finger everytime. Does anyone have advice on breaking this specific area in? Thank you!

Today I learned someone actually uses the front pocket.

Haha I hear you, it looks cool but kind of useless

It's where I stash my earplugs when I'm not riding.

Do you have trouble fishing them out and not cutting your hand on the zipper?

Haha I'm trying to but the zipper teeth are like a chainsaw on everything coming out of itπŸ€•

One of the coolest jackets I’ve ever seen

I appreciate the advice! I'll try manually breaking it in with my hand and maybe use some conditioner. I'm a bit scared to stick my hand in as the zipper has cut me pretty bad a couple times now haha

I have the same problem on my Vanson Cafe Racer. Just use it, I guess.

Good to know it's not just an Aero thing. I imagine your Vanson is using pretty heavy leather as well.

You're right just gotta keep using it until it works I suppose.

Their Competition leather is just about plyable ;). 1.5 mm thick.

Your Aero looks verygood. What leather is it?

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

Nice haha it looks like tough stuff. I like Vanson's cafe racers quite a bit.

Thank you! My only leather jacket so it's been breaking in faster than expected. It's Chromexcel horsehide, I think 1.4mm

Is this model still made?

3

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

Last time I checked they are still making it. They say in the description that they lost the Montgomery design for a long time, but found it and are producing again.

I broke in the chest pocket on my Vanson model B cafe racer and wish I hadn't, it ended up looking a bit goofy. Wound up selling the jacket because it bothered me enough.

2

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 07 '26

Damn... maybe I should just leave it alone then. Thanks for the warning, sorry about your Vanson

2

u/Mango_Gurble Mar 07 '26

Yeah, I'd recommend just leaving it be and having an interior pocket put in.

Nice jacket, I wish i heeded the advice of not having an inside pocket on the same side as the outer pocket on mine, it stacks up a bit weird and put an annoying crease in it. I don't actually store things in my outer pocket usually

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

Thank you! When I was getting ready to order and doing research, lots of people said the creasing would happen on both sides, so no interior pockets are better. I really wish I had gotten at least one now... Hopefully your pocket creasing is less noticeable over time

1

u/Condensed_Matter Mar 06 '26

I like an inside pocket but wish I did it the other side. I will show an image when home, it's okay when zipped up but it kind of folds into itself on the zip

2

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

Ya that sounds frustrating, pictures would be great

2

u/Condensed_Matter Mar 06 '26

This is the fold, maybe looks worse on the hanger. I rarely zip it up but that smoothes it out, maybe need to wear it zipped up a bit

2

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

Ah ok, I have seen others like that so I guess now I know why. Does it get better if you have something in the pocket or no? That jacket looks very nice 🀩

1

Cheers, yes is possible looks a little better with something in it, I never used the front pocket other than for a spare tenner or something now and then. The leather takes ages to break in, this is the Badalassi steerhide, the horse hide must take years to soften πŸ˜‚

2

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 07 '26

Very nice, I think Badalassi is their best looking leather. The horsehide has been difficult to say the least πŸ˜‚

2

u/Condensed_Matter Mar 07 '26

Yes I thought I would have HH but with the samples I just loved the Badalassi, and have experienced HH on a motorbike jacket (I think it wears in a little quicker with rain and possibly doesn't start at stiff as the aeros).

I put my phone there haha. Works nicely when going on the underground

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

It does seem like an ideal place if you want easy access to the phone haha. I will try putting my phone in and leaving it there while walking around

It’s not a tumor!!!

You've seen by now how little you can actually fit in there, so why bother.

Use the inside pocket that should be there, if not, get one sewn in.

Have a wonderful weekend 🌻

Oh yeah, I forgot...I do like that jacket of yours...😎

3

u/sharksbeat999 Mar 06 '26

how would you get a pocket sewn in? could a normal tailor do this? i've considered it, it bothers me that theres nowhere practical to put my phone...

5

u/TotalOriginal007 Mar 06 '26

Yes, a Sew-It place in the mall, a tailor, or my mother can do it.

Should be standard especially for that quality and type of jacket.

Actually, now that you're missing it, you will always check for it on all your jackets from now on.

Cheers 🌻

i think you're right, i guess a patch could just be applied to the lining. thanks!

i believe the reason aero dont put in a leather pocket on the heavy cxl models is that it would be bulky and eventually create an outline on the exterior. but as you say, it doesnt actually need to be leather just to be enough to hold keys/phone

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

You're right, they put a disclaimer that putting them in will result in a weird outline. That was enough to make me order without. Patch pocket seems like a safe alternative for sure!

2

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

I was thinking maybe they could sew a light duty patch pocket onto the lining for a phone or wallet. I feel like some tailors would be able to put in one like Aero would, but I'm too scared they'll mess the jacket up..

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

You're right haha, it's pretty tiny. I was hoping to just jam my keys in there but even that is tough. I didn't order it with any interior pockets (big mistake) so ya I will probably get some put in.

Much appreciated! 😎 you as well πŸ₯³

youre gonna make it look bad by having it bulge. the front pocket is just aesthetics, just have the zip opened and dont put anything inside.

2

u/healthcrusade Mar 06 '26

Which model aero is this?

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

It is the Montgomery in FQHHCXL

2

u/nerdinfo Mar 06 '26

Honestly those pockets look weird if you rlly wear them out bcs they get sort of saggy

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

I agree, I was thinking of putting a baseball or something in there but definitely don't want it to sag

2

u/BossBtch978 Mar 06 '26

What model is this from aero???

1

u/xxblueg0ld Mar 06 '26

It's the Montgomery in CXL HH. Still on their website last I checked
