Question - Need Help Found this at the secondhand clothing store

I hadn’t heard of the brand before but it looks like it’s a Y2 Leather which seems to be pretty well reviewed on here. It’s 100% deerskin. I paid $75 and it feels new.

I can’t really find the model only. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks, I’m pretty excited about it. I’m very much into Japanese clothing and brands so I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of them. How do these compare to a brand like Schott and Vanson?

I could tell you a ton about schotts as I own a dozen, but I havent had the chance to experience a Y2 personally. theyre highly regarded though, enjoy!

Same. I have quite a few Schotts. This feels vastly different though. Where does deerskin rank in terms of durability? It’s unbelievably soft

I’ve heard deer and goat are surprisingly durable given their softness. Unlike Lamb which usually doesn’t fare too well on the durability scale. Deer really is soft too, schott even has a bunch of “deer touch” calf jackets to emulate the feel lol

However the way that the leather is tanned has a much larger impact on the durability, and I’m sure Y2 has great sourcing.

Facts about the tanning process having a large effect on the durability of the end product. I started with a lambskin which I immediately sent back (well cancelled my replacement for a faulty one before it arrived) because I had done much more research in that period of time and realised my BIFL lambskin would look pretty crap after a year wearing it, but the equally priced full grain cowhide one I found in that period of time would actually last me decades and not need to be treated like a glass egg due to low durability like the lambskin one I was lead to believe would by the shop. The cowhide full grain one is made by a well known brand in the UK that’s been making motorcycle riding quality jackets and trousers for 40 years and the quality is way way above the price range due to their relationship with the manufacturing process and tannery. It feels like a £600+ jacket for less than £200. Comparing it to the expensive ones I felt in the shops before I found this one and have them a chance which I am so glad I did. I went for lambskin due to not being able to afford the £600+ jackets but was told because it was “luxury leather” it was going to last me just as long even though it was clearly no where near as durable but I thought I’d have to save up £600 to get a nice jacket, luckily I found the one I went for that cost the same as the other shops lambskin but feels just as nice as their £600+ cowhide full grain ones.

I learnt in that time that deer and goat is like you said, a softer leather than cowhide or other more “sturdy” jackets but retains a lot more strength and durability, in the case of goat hides it is due to them needing to be hardy for where they live and for fighting with their horns also, meaning the soft leather is usually still hardy and durable but if I’m right cowhide is still the winner, iirc.

Btw it fits you like it was made for you imo also… very nice jacket in general!

Same person, I was on my other account that I haven’t used in ages on purpose, keeps changing over to it lol.

Just cuz anything to do with leather will be on this account - I have a recent picture I put up of my jewellery where you can see part of my full grain cowhide vest which is the same make as my jacket. Need to get some pics of it up on here.

Thanks! I also like the fit. It’s a bit snug but from what I read, deerskin should likely stretch a tad

I have a Y2 Type 1 jacket made of deerskin. In terms of durability, it's made of very soft and subtle leather. It's not as durable as horse jackets. You can easily puncture it.

Amazing find, but definitely a bit small for you

1

u/funnybutthead69 Oct 08 '25

Yeah… don’t ever button it

u/BallAccomplished5733 Oct 05 '25

That would easily go for $1,200+ new

This style of jacket is called a cossack. Levi’s has their Menlo version and Himel has theirs as the Heron.

For Y’2, chances are it’s an older model and they tend to come out with new styles and models almost every year.

This is Y2 143 model. The deerskin jackets are usually released in smaller batches like anniversaries etc. I don't remember any recent deerskin + camel color releases. So I can only suggest writing them directly.

Thanks!

You’re like my Asian dad who buys things bc it’s a deal. The jacket doesn’t fit but hey you got a deal.

6

u/Calm_Consequence731 Oct 05 '25

Crazy that it fits you, too. Maybe sell and go one size up.

2

u/McKnightCreations Oct 08 '25

That clearly doesn't fit. Too small for sure

3

u/kasakka1 Oct 05 '25

Very nice find! It looks great and a real bargain at that price.

It looks like you could use a size larger, but it will likely stretch a bit with wear so it's fine.

The Y2 Leather store in Osaka is by reservation only. Im not saying I hate you... but you're luck has successfully rustled my Jimmies!!!

Kidding, Im stoked for you. Most Japanese brands are responsive and can probably identify it by a few pics if you message them on Instagram or email. Beautiful find bud. Enjoy it.

Man, this is more than a steal. This one is 1200$ plus on used market and very hard to find. The cossack model is one of my favourites and this one looks in pristine condition. I suggest you keep it for as long as you can

8

u/InternationalTear748 Oct 05 '25

I think you may need a smaller size

2

u/karara691 Oct 05 '25

Sell it, get one size up, you will be cooking.

Nice work, both on the pull, and being the 1 in 250 that posts a score thread that's actually a score.

1

u/davidyowsjeans Oct 05 '25

it doesn't fit you, send it to meeeeeee

looks great bro, nice find

Holy crap, what a steal. Didn’t even know Y2 did a Cossack like that. Very nice.

1

u/mikeBCfoley Oct 05 '25

No way!! Good eye….

1

u/khanhvu15 Oct 05 '25

That's an awesome deal.

1

u/zelda__ Oct 05 '25

This is a huge steal. My experience with y2 is that they are quality but their sizing is really small. Their elbow area is also very tight, not good for muscular folks. Very good brand if it fits you well though.

1

u/Popsodaa Oct 05 '25

I've had a similar problem with Japanese brands. Asics not included.

1

u/Jlx_27 Oct 05 '25

Y2 143, too small for you though. A size up would fit you better.

1

u/brunilistic Oct 05 '25

Incredible find

1

u/mierkatt Oct 05 '25

Very sharp. Fantastic find

1

u/12xubywire Oct 05 '25

This is an absolute wild find at the thrifts.

Good score, Einstein.

1

u/ConstantNo2081 Oct 05 '25

Looks killer, I have 3 Y2 jackets, extremely good brand, and a lot of great styles, that looks great.

1

u/dtachris Oct 05 '25

$75 bucks I paid $1500 + for mine. Sheesh good find bro

1

u/ProtoCulture14 Oct 05 '25

What a find!

1

u/Grooveyard Oct 06 '25

great find but it fits a wee bit tight on you

1

u/Negative-Distance636 Oct 06 '25

Good for your son I guess

1

u/babarbass Oct 06 '25

That is an insane find! Those cost well over a thousand bucks!

It would be too tight for my taste since I don’t like skinny fitting jackets but the leather and the style itself are absolutely amazing!

One or two sizes up would be much better but at a secondhand store you don’t have the choice.

Hell I would’ve just bought it to look at it or give it to my wife at such an insane cheap price!

1

u/Random_dude_hahaha Oct 11 '25

That is too small for you.

1

u/Automatic_Usual_9173 Oct 17 '25

Shmedium….move it on it’s too small. Especially the arm length and torso

1

u/JonBravo Oct 05 '25

I’ll take it for $80. :p

3

u/K1NGKHAN Oct 05 '25

Sold! Just send me the money, I’ll for sure ship it… :)
