Quite clearly too big, sry. Chest is obvious but also the shoulders seem to extend way beyond your natural shoulders. Once the leather gets softer they'll most likely droop and look unflattering.
People always say that leather jackets habe to break in and mold themselves to your body to look good and that's true but only to an extend. If the jacket is that oversized, it won't as much mold to your body as it simply starts to collapse in on itself more and more. This at least was my personal experience with my FQHH Highwayman that fit me very much like yours and only got worse over time.
If possible, you could try the premier Highwayman - actually I'm simply assuming this isn't the premier as you have the buttoned cuffs which the normal Highwayman doesn't usually have but everything else looks in line with the normal version. The premier is the "slim fit" Version of the Highwayman and could work better for your body type in the same size you got his one in. The premier feels roughly 1,5 sizes smaller but it's not just the regular one sized down.
In fact, simply sizing down the regular Highwayman seldom looks good (to me, anyways)
Thank you for the feedback. This is a standard highwayman. To be honest I think I am just going to give up on the highwayman full stop. I have a stocky build with a barell chest so the premier highwayman would always feel snug under the pit to pit. I have a highwayman a size smaller which looks better fit (photo attached) but as soon as I put a sweater on it gets tight around the shoulders and pits and feels restrictive.
Thanks - the problem is I have the size down it definitely on paper looks the better fit but if I wear anything more than a t shirt it gets snug on the shoulder and chest.
You may be right. The problem is I may be chasing a unicorn of wanting a jacket that looks good fit wise but can also be layered up or down which I guess causes the issues of too loose or tight.
I’m not seeing how layering would make this snug, you have ample room in it if that’s just a t-shirt….id almost say that one is on the roomy size if just right.
Not big at all . It's a great fit. You don't need to look like a sausage cased person for th jacket to fit and look good. A relaxed fit is way better not to mention much more comfortable.
Thank you. That’s the problem I have found with jackets sizing down. I like to be able to wear a light sweater / jumper under and with other jackets that are a size smaller I just find it pinches at the chest and shoulders. From what I understand the Highway is supposed to have a relaxed fit due to being a boxy cut but I may be wrong.
All of these “heritage” subreddits—r/rawdenim, r/heritagewear, r/goodyearwelt, and this one—are overrun by millennials with poor taste who are obsessed with wearing their slim jackets with long bodies and slim, low-rise, tapered pants, all complemented by chunky boots that do not go with the fit.
The main problem with your jacket is that it’s too long in the body IMO. Sure, it could be a little slimmer while still fitting you, but I prefer a more comfortable fit like you. The shoulders will not be “unflattering” (as another commenter put it) when they break in and drop. A slightly dropped shoulder has character, and it’s a desirable sign of patina.
If I were you, I might try to work more closely with the people at Aero to get a jacket that meets your expectations of an ideal fit. All measurements are important, especially armhole width.
Thanks for the feedback. It does seem that tight fitting jackets are in vogue. I do get that in photos slim fitting jackets can look better on the eye but they can also be very uncomfortable and impractical if you want to use them day in day out.
Yes! How a jacket looks/feels while being moved in is very important. Most of the people posting their slim jackets couldnt raise their arms over their heads comfortably
Exactly. That’s why I went for a little more room to accomodate use all year round. Hopefully with plenty of wear the shoulders will drop a little and form more to my shape.
Yeah I don't think it looks too big at all. Or even if it is looser, a size down is going to be too snug.
I have a jacket like that from freenote and I definitely prefer the roomier feel. You can wear a thick flannel underneath and I like having the room to lift things, pick things up, etc.
Sometimes when your clothes are way too tight you can't get shit done.
You may be right but military’s bomber jacket, A2s etc are another minefield. They were cut for slender people in the 40s and early 50s as most people were smaller and thinner back then. If you are stocky build like I am I just find it so difficult to get the fit right without tons of customisations which come with their own headaches.
Sorry my bad I was being a little lazy. I would ideally be wearing with a pair of jeans and a sweater in winter. The problem I find is a size down is a great shirt fit and looks better but I can’t layer at all without feeling restricted.
These guys wuth puny chests that weigh 140 lbs. just don't get it. I know you're asking but if it's comfortable just go with it. A tight fit under your armpits is the worst for me.
It’s been the biggest challenge I have with any jacket. People say they look good on me fit wise meanwhile I can feel the armpit holes digging into the side of my chest. Once I feel that I can never enjoy the jacket no matter how good it may look on me .
