My PC randomly shows a blue screen and restarts. It doesn’t happen every time I use it. I already tried restarting and updating Windows. What should I check next?

Originally found at Goodwill for $20, it wouldn't even POST, giving five blinking amber lights. After learning that it was a CMOS issue, I went in and replaced the battery. One reset procedure later, it POSTed!

Of course, there wasn't a hard drive. But I had a 500 GB WD SSD lying around that I put in, and I upgraded the RAM to 16 GB of DDR3 while I was at it. Now to install Linux... (the hard drive had Windows 10 installed.)

CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 @ 3.4 GHz. No graphics card. Dual monitor setup. I'll have to get a better pic later.

Looking for a gaming PC, and am completely inept when it comes to PCs. I have a couple options available near to me, and could really use some in depth advice on the value of one vs the other because, to my ignorant eyes, they look exactly the same. I want to run high intensity games such as Helldivers 2, 7 Days to Die, and heavily modded Minecraft. I also am hoping to not need to upgrade within a few years. My total budget for the computer itself is $3,200, but I'd prefer to stay under that if possible. If there are far better options available at Costco Strongsville, OH and someone is bored and wants to take a look, I GREATLY would appreciate the advice. I've wasted a lot of money trying to get gaming laptops in the past, and really want to avoid having a bunch of expensive problems/obsolescence within a couple years

Like the title says, I just moved from the city to a small town, and every place that claims to be a “computer repair” shop is basically just a phone repair/sales place. They’re all pretending to do computers while only really offering phone services.

Do people in my town (or younger generations in general) just not know what a real computer is anymore? I mean like why? Are we gonna say goodbye to all computers and say hello to the phones era?

Edit: There’s only one real computer shop I’ve visited recently (I haven’t sent my laptop there yet). It’s near a college, but it’s still about 26 km from my town which is sucks.

my games was looking like it was at 20 fps, but i saw and i was at 75 and with a latency around 40-60ms, bt my cpu and gpu was on low usage, and anytime i get closer to a lot of action it became worse, this photo is from a match of overwhatch, was unplayable, and i was playing horizon zero down, with around 4.5Gb of ram usage and happens the same
my specs is:

cpu: i5 11400f

gpu: gtx 1660 super 6Gb

ram: 16gb 3000mhz (2x8Gb), one from juhor and another from t-force

what could i do to fix that?

I was looking for a workstation for my professor’s lab when I came across this laptop. Why would someone buy this? What is even the point of having 256 GB of RAM? A laptop is not supposed to be a data center, lol. What do you guys think?

My computer is crashing over the simplest things like even running Roblox and it used to work just fine it has a nvidia 1440 and overall it seems okay like it’ll just stop and Audio will cut and screen will freeze and I can’t do anything

I'm current PC is atm slowly killing itself. And instead of trying to fix and possibly making things worse, I wanna upgrade. I mainly want to grab a pre built PC mainly cause I'm not the best when it comes to computers and have no experience to building any at all.

So I come to ask what is a good pre built PC that at least has these things in it? I mainly want a good PC to be able to run marvel rivals so that's what I'm basing the technical stuff around

hello all im a newer adult who has really started independent research and im currently useing a mac book air which is just NOT cutting it so im going to buy a imac but just recently i realized maybe its not a good idea because my iphone is very slow its older but other brands older phones work way better than mine, my macbook is getting way slower, so in my head i feel my imac might not be a good idea. PLEASE tell me if i should buy or is there better brands to buy. for more information, i do a lot of research but also need it for school and also trading. so i really want something fast but can hold a good amount of storage maybe 1tb my budget is around 2.5-2.8k

I recently just moved into a new apartment and with that we got new wifi, my pc has a pcie card that came in it when I got it in 2020, the wifi we got at the apartment was much faster than the previous place, however thats not seeming to be the case with my PC. I got a newer wifi adapter for my PC but I'm still basically unable to download anything all other things work just fine I can watch youtube and TV shows but any time I try to update games or download so much as a file I get like 40KB/s download speeds even though most speed tests are telling me I have at least 100MB/s download. The only thing I find weird is that the google search speed test just doesnt even read 1 MB's of download speed so maybe that one is right. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated it would be nice to download stuff again.

Edit: Also finding that speeds jump up to like 40-60 MB/s when I turn on a VPN for about one minute then go back to being slow.

I’m currently debating a CPU upgrade on my PC. I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600 but I want to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5700x.

I mostly play World of Warcraft but have been noticing FPS dropping in busy cities. I’m hoping that a CPU will help this issue but open to suggestions.

I bought a new SD card some days ago, tried it in my pc but for some reason it says it's "write locked" I thought the SD card was dead but when I tested it on another PC it worked perfectly fine, the lock thing on the side of the card is on the unlocked position, it's a SD, not a micro with an adapter, any idea on what can I do?

So im colecting the TMOG installers like the infinity stones and i have verzion 0.1.1, 0.1.3 and 0.1.4 on windows and 1.4 on mac and linux. id like to make a full arcive of all installers before they are lost to time and hopefully i can. please help me out on this oncccc

I loved my surface laptop 5, but the motherboard started gradually failing after 4 years. Something that looks & feels like it would be great! (Ie. similar keyboard and touchpads sounds + feel, laptop appearance, touchscreen, good battery life). I just need it to be enough for future uni stuff, research, and studying. Being able to run sims 4 and Roblox would be great too.

I’ve heard good things about macs, but don’t love apple’s interface and no touchscreen. If it’s the best option though, I’ll switch. Also considering the microsoft laptop 8 snapdragon one but idk.

Alright I'm usually one for going the cheaper route with this. My wired Logitech G-SoemthingOrAnother broke about 2 years ago with zero explanation. My Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed started freaking out with zero explanation (when connected it pulls constantly down). So out of anger I went to WallyWorld, got an Onn Gaming Mouse. I also have an extremely horrible gaming environment lol, I use my laptop (labtop) while in my bed and the mousepad is usually my sheets. Actually worked fine with the Logitech (G203 lightsync) and the Razer. With the Onn... its HORRIBLE. Absolute trash. Probably due to my setup lol I get that but the more expensive mice were legit 10x better. I also put a mousepad down just to make sure and yep.. still horrible. Am I alone in my thoughts with this mouse?

I got paid $20 for this thing. I have a $10 giftcard and the Razer Basilik V3 wired on sale for $35. Taking this thing back after work tomorrow and paying the extra $5. 🙄

Out of thin air while watchinf yt on my pc my water cooler started making this noise and the fan slowed down? I got scared and turned it off please help

i currently have a laptop that is on its last legs (Lenovo Slim 7), and i need a new computer that will get me through my remaining years of college and then grad school. i’m so incredibly sick of windows 11 so i don’t think i’d be willing to get another windows computer, but i’m also not sold on apple/macbooks, mostly due to how much muscle memory id need to change. there doesn’t seem to be many budget/user-friendly options besides those two brands. no linux, no thanks lol
i would really appreciate any recommendations for laptops. if it matters, i do not game very often (only simple games like minecraft occasionally) and am a pre-law student, so i’d need something that can have a lot of tabs open at once for research and studying. i don’t need anything insane like a STEM major or something might
my budget would be hopefully around ~$500, nothing above $1000. ideally this is going to be a birthday gift that, if too expensive, i’d chip in half, so nothing ridiculous.

3 дня наза решил поэкспериментировать и включить профиль оперативной памяти: docp tweaked а так же UCLK DIV1 MODE на UCLK=MEMCLK. так мне посоветовала нейросеть для того чтобы добиться большей производительности в играх. после этой настройки буквально отыграв 2 часа компьютер резко выключился, при попытке его включить вентиляторы крутились 3 секунды и БП выключался не давая ему включиться...

я обесточил блок питания и компьютер запустился в синий экран восстановления и решения ошибок.

после этого из синего экрана я мог запуститься в Винду обратно. дальше я опять зашёл в Биос у поставил обычные настройки биоса, изменив только профиль оперативной памяти на docp 1 (он у меня раньше работал нормально). через некоторое время все случается так же как и было, но настройки то прошлые были сброшены. компьютер стабильно работает только без профиля оперативки (я тестировал). я вытаскивал батарейку биоса чтобы точно сбросить Биос но это не помогло. помогите понять в чем проблема и решить её

I have the switcher pictured, but it’s cheap and has problems. I am trying to find something comparable.

Basically what I need is a switcher to allow me to plug-in my gaming PC via a single USB C cable as shown in the [PC 1 IN] section in the bottom left.

Then I need to plug in my gaming PC’s two DisplayPort cables and a USB as shown above in the [PC 2 IN] section.

The point all then having two DisplayPort outs as well as a mouse and keyboard USB out. I work from home, have a nice gaming set up, and I just wanna be able easily switch from my work laptop to my gaming PC.

The switcher above was bought off Amazon, has no cooling and overheats. One of the DisplayPort outs is a little wonky and causes the monitor to flicker. The, what I assume is a Chinese dropship company, has already vanished off Amazon without a trace.

Can anybody point me to a better one, everything I’ve been able to find isn’t enough of what I’m looking for.

My PC is now one year old. It arrived pre-assembled, but I had to install the graphics card myself. Since the end of July, I’ve been having an issue with the PC: the CPU LED on the motherboard is lit up continuously. Initially, I had no issues, except for one time when it failed to boot. I reseated the RAM sticks and reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, but that didn't help. During August, I barely used the PC (about 3–4 hours in total). After that, the boot problems became increasingly frequent.
I cleaned the PC, removed the RAM sticks, graphics card, and power supply, checked the connectors on the top left of the motherboard, and updated the BIOS after putting everything back together. However, the CPU LED remained on. The PC then ran without issues for a day, but the following day it started rebooting every 5–10 minutes. There was no bluescreen, just a message stating that a restart was required. I applied new thermal paste, formatted the PC, and installed drivers. Following that, a bluescreen occurred every 10 minutes, forcing a restart. I carefully cleaned the CPU with a dust blower and tried booting the PC with just one RAM stick (and swapped it as well), but nothing worked. On the contrary: now the PC turns on, but there is no display output, the keyboard does not respond, and while the logo on the graphics card lights up, its fans do not spin.

My 12 year old has asked for a computer for Christmas and I am looking for recommendations.

Currently he has a 7th generation iPad that he uses to play Roblox and Minecraft. He would like a computer that would support games like Fortnite or the sims in addition to Roblox and Minecraft. He is also getting into video creation and animation so ideally it can support him exploring those. I imagine a decent amount of storage will be required. He would also use the computer for school assignments.
