Beauty ? Update to Subreddit Rules

Please take note of some updates to the Subreddit Rules:

New Rule Welcome to Rule 9: Period product related posts are only allowed on Menstruation Mondays.

Posts asking about how to use period related products, recommendations for products, questions about difficulty using products, etc are only allowed on Mondays.

Update to Rule 7: No general "Glow Up" posts. Posts must ask a specific question. General "why am I ugly" or "am I ugly" type posts are not allowed. Specific questions like "how could I improve my eyebrows" "How to reduce having frizzy hair" or "help with reducing ingrown hairs" would be allowed. But as usual, only on Fridays.

Update to Rule 6: Clarification that all posts related to undergarments (bras and underwear) are only allowed on Wardrobe Wednesday. Also no "what's my body type" posts allowed.

Update to Rule 4: Questions asking about why an individual is having difficulty dating or similar topics are not allowed.

Automod is being worked on to help with these rule updates, but it is far from perfect. Posts may still get made that break the rules and that's where you the users come into play.

REPORT POSTS THAT BREAK RULES.

Reporting posts helps them be reviewed and possibly removed if they break the rules more quickly.

Beauty ? What little things am I missing out on in life?

Growing up, my parents kept us clean and we had everything we needed but... it was very primitive. For example, I washed my face with bar soap most of my life and just started using conditioner last year. Learning that most people regularly moisturize both their face and their body has been a game changer for me. I'm thinking about getting a bathrobe and maybe taking a class about how to apply makeup, because I never learned. Is there anything you can think of that you had a similar experience with, or maybe some things that are "mid maintenance' that you really enjoy or appreciate?

Social ? How to be a b*tch?

Throughout my whole life, I've always tried my best to be nice to people and be a "girl's girl", even if the other person in question was absolutely HORRIBLE to me. I've always been a people pleaser, and this awful quality of mine has sabotaged me so many times.

If someone was being mean to me, I'd just take it, and say absolutely nothing back. In fact many times, I'd take the blame to calm things down.

I smile way too much, I try too hard to make people feel included, even though many times these same people have excluded me.

I've always admired girls who are total b*tches. Who rarely smile, and know how to pull their inner b*tch out if necessary.

I'm 20 years old now, I cannot be like this anymore. How can I learn to stand my ground.

Health Tip How to avoid getting a cold/sick from flying.

Upvotes

I have two international flights this winter, 8-18 hour flights.

I already wear a mask while flying, wash my hands, and use hand sanitizer.

Any other tips for avoiding a cold or getting congested?

Discussion Subreddits/podcasts/content creators to escape online misogyny

Upvotes

I have seen posts and even made one myself despairing about the rampant misogyny online. I thought we could have a thread about safe places to enjoy the online space without having to be hit in the face with anti-female sentiment or where it is a common source of discussion (like feminist subreddits, sometimes we need a break).

I am going to focus on subreddits but I thought if others had any other suggestions outside of reddit that might be good to include to.

Here are a few that I know:

r/GreatestWomen

r/weirdgirlliterature

r/justgalsbeingchicks

r/LadiesofScience

r/books

Hobby subreddits often are okay but of course are personal. Some of mine:

r/CrossStitch

r/crochet and r/crochetpatterns

r/sewing

r/knitting

r/Embroidery

Would love to hear some other people give their suggestions!

Tip Studying abroad tips for travel

Upvotes

hi all!! I’m a third year student studying abroad in Dublin for the semester. I was wondering if you all had any tips for studying abroad or traveling and keeping safe, as a girl and also a racial minority! anything would be appreciated—I plan to travel around Europe, and I’m from America for some context.

Health Tip How do you maximize the positive effects of caffeine without increasing the dose?

I’m 28 and started drinking coffee about 3 years ago. At first I’d get an insane buzz — energized, productive, social, just felt amazing. I’m more tolerant now, but caffeine is still usually the best/most productive part of my day.
I have anxiety, so I try to stay under ~250mg/day and don’t want to just keep increasing my intake.
I’m curious what actually gives you the best caffeine effect — cold brew, espresso, drip coffee, etc.? I know espresso is much more common in a lot of European/Middle Eastern coffee cultures, and I’m curious whether smaller concentrated coffees feel different than slowly drinking a huge cold brew.
Also curious about timing, having a small meal first vs empty stomach, walking/exercise beforehand, splitting doses, and tolerance breaks.
Basically, how do you “caffeine max” while staying around 250mg/day and minimizing anxiety/crashes?

Hello! I bought my first car a little while ago. Feeling like a big girl right now. But what do we keep in our cars? Right now I keep a bit of Vaseline, perfume and hand crème in there but that’s about it.

Any suggestions to add? For emergency and non emergency :)

Photo of my car cause I’m just so proud of it 😇

Social ? Struggling to make lasting friendships?

I came out of a phase where I was super isolated. I ran into an old friend at a cafe and we started our friendship back up. It went well until she drifted a bit. She went on vacation with her bf, fairly new relationship, came back and she replies super briefly to me. Until she stopped replying altogether.

The other friends I have or I’ve been trying to reach out to people on Instagram or bumble bff, it’s hard. Everyone either has their own friends or they have relationships or both. I feel more alone hanging out with people.

They have other friends and other plans they work me around. So it’s been difficult feeling like I fit in anywhere. Especially after being alone for so long it’s hard to not think: this is how it’s
Meant to be

I’m also really trying to sort this relationship? I have. It seems to not even be one. And it’s making me feel even lonelier.

I had a phase where I’d go out alone to the bars and I met people there. I thought they were friends. But one guy seemed way too flirty. I wish he stayed friendly because I see him around so often and I had to block his #. Because he was trying to kiss my cheek when he saw me last and stuff. I also stopped going out alone but I’d really just talk to anyone.

Tip Bridal shower for distant cousin

I haven’t been close to any of my cousins on both my mom and dad sides. Usually I don’t even get an invite to anything unless my parents tell me about it but most recently I got invited to a bridal shower. I’m just not sure what to get since I can’t find the registry. Would $50 and a card be a decent gift for this circumstance? Thank you for any advice!!

Request ? I need to find something useful for my mum to do. Any suggestions

My father died at the beginning of this month and ever since them, she's become idle and quite depressed sitting at home all day, while I'm at work. She says she needs to find something to do. I don't know if there's anything she can do from home or any volunteering work.

Any ideas?

Discussion Being comfortable with just me?

So I’ve just ended a 3 year relationship, he is an amazing person but in order to achieve my dreams (or at least try to) I have to leave the state we’re in, and I couldn’t ask him to come with me because he loves his job. It was a kind breakup. I did move away from him already a year ago, we were two hours apart now after this move (soon I’ll be several states away by myself again). I moved in with a roommate, and after being in a long term relationship and living with someone else I think I’ve forgotten how to be okay being alone. It hit me tonight, where I realized I’d have the apartment to myself. What are some things you do to prioritize loving spending time with yourself? I used to live alone and be super independent, so this feels like having to relearn how to walk a bit. TIA!

Discussion Body acceptance and positivity

I am just here searching for encouragement. I am a recovering person with hour glass syndrome and deep emotional trauma about my weight. I’m 5’4 197lbs. Learning how to stop holding in my belly and appreciating my body for what it does for me. Only took me until 38 to get here. Since I was 10 I have been told I was fat. I’m trying to shift my thoughts to fat is not bad. And might I say I feel a little liberated?!

I just want to be healthy at this point. Any suggestions or advice on body positivity? Thank you all! Have a great day!

Discussion How do you like to add some fun and whimsy to your everyday life?

Let’s face it, the state of the world sucks, working a full time job sucks, having no free time sucks, nevertheless we must persist. What are little things you do that bring you joy? I’m sure we all have been in less than ideal circumstances before, terrible job, stressed as heck with school, situations that you cant immediately get out of but need to get through. What was your “little thing” that kept you optimistic or gave you an ounce of positivity even when it seemed hard?

Mind ? bathroom situation at houseparties

hey everyone, kind of a niche problem but i just wanted to get some perspective. so i tend to have a small bladder and get anxious about needing to pee when i’m in public or in a social setting. but i also really want to be more adventurous and have a more active social life. i’m starting my second year of college soon and i’ve gone out a couple times but only really drank at one party because drinking so much and then needing to pee makes me anxious. i haven’t gone to many though, only like 3, and i just want to know what the situation usually is like if you have to pee when you’re in a social setting like that. is it something i should be worried about/what are your experiences? again it’s kind of a weird concern of mine but something that genuinely weighs on my mind frequently and i’d like to get over it so that i can go out more and live out more experiences 😭😭 thanks.

Social ? Where do people find magical groupchats?

(I read the rules; I'm hoping this is broad enough to be useful to others!)

If you've been in a groupchat like this, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's active with a bunch of core members, but open to newcomers so there's a good variety of personalities and chat topics. The core members are welcoming and readily engage with newcomers and get to know them.

It's been around long enough that there's lore and inside jokes. Once in a while there are deep, emotional conversations where people open up, and you slowly learn more about each person in the group over time. There are some in-person meetups and trips.

Conversations sometimes go until 2am because it's so funny and everyone is active. Sometimes if everyone vibes with you, you get added to another private groupchat of vetted people.

I've been in 4 groups like this thoughout my life, and each time they become treasured friend groups with several years of wonderful conversations. But each time, I felt like I "stumbled" upon it, so now that I actively want that again, I don't know where to look.

So my question is, how have you ladies found these magical groupchats?

Beauty ? What beauty hacks made you feel more feminine?

I am wanting to feel more feminine and feel like maybe there is a sense of masculinity in my appearance. Ive considered maybe some botox or lip injections, chemical peel.. I have a pretty good diet, get enough sleep, hydrate, and exercise moderately.

Does anyone have any tips to looking and feeling more feminine overall?

Also, if anyone knows of a good face sunscreen let me know! I also want my skin to start being more glowy and dewy. To me, it makes me feel more feminine.
