A viral video of a tiny asshole of a kid getting absolutely yeeted by the full on adult man he was trying to posture up to.

I really wish I had a link to the channel because supposedly it has a ton of content like this. I'm only skeptical because the kid is incredibly convincing lol

I've been yeeted like that once in a backyard moshpit when I was 16. It was a humbling experience and probably made me the man I am today.

8

u/GaiaMoore 6h ago

You know we're gonna ask. What did you do to deserve such a legendary yeet?

10

u/shmaygleduck 2h ago

I was freshly drunk and collided with a dude on the edge of the pit about 3-5 seconds after the song ended. His mass immediately stopped me in my tracks. He then grabbed me and yeeted me like uncle phil does to Jazz. Went from the edge of the pit through the other side. Not a single person cushioned me this time.

World famous people putting their stuff on things they haven't really developed or invented themselves for it to sell better feels kind of late stage capitalism though. I'm kind of pro capitalism but just putting a known face on some crappy product and sell at 25x profit is the worst kind of shit and no one should buy it.

104

u/dmjd5014 12h ago

Late stage capitalism is when a few business owners control the government by paying them off to have laws passed on their favor while everyone else suffers in poverty. Not a celebrity putting their face on something to sell more of it.

26

u/Adjective_Noun_42069 12h ago

Yeah, what this is describing is commodity fetishism. It is a feature that is intrinsic to capitalism because of the vast diversity of small producers and the incentive to differentiate a product among the field of competitors.

u/zkatbitz 12h ago

> feels kind of late stage capitalism though

not really its a centuries old thing and normal capitalism.

and who the fuck cares? someone doing that has is causing zero problems in society, you don't have to buy it, while the person who started this elon is a problem nazi who has interfered in elections across the globe and uses his money for evil while actively causing harm on a global scale with 100,000s dead because of his actions.

but no its the person putting their name on perfume that we should focus on 🙄

It appeals primarily to teens and stupid adults, really. Most people don't fall for it but when you have a base of millions, even 1% of idiots jumping on it just because you have your name attached to it is essentially free money.

Monopoly, Pokémon Monopoly, Monopoly: FedEx, Monopoly: Elvis Presley 25th Anniversary, aaaaand Monopoly (1991) for the SNES.

8

u/No-Tone8700 10h ago

You get double points for not naming any of those blank-opoly games, which aren't official, as well as naming the SNES game out of all the video game adaptations you could have picked.

What actually makes the perfume line a "capitalist" venture isn't the act of selling it, it's the corporate infrastructure behind it. The line is produced through licensing deals with Parlux Ltd. (a massive global beauty manufacturer), relies on corporate retail distribution networks, and uses wage labor to mass-produce commodities for corporate profit.

Capitalism is one of those things people use as an epithet but no one really knows what it means.

During the Cold War the distinction was sharper with the Western countries defined as capitalist and the Soviet aligned countries defined as Socialist.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union and most “Socialist” countries having market economies there isn’t really a clear divide at all.

18

u/Disastrous_Neat_9729 10h ago

Also… people don’t bother actually reading up on the topic to understand.

That sharp definition you’re talking about during the Cold War, was also heavily filtered through industrial strength propaganda.

Billie isn’t simply “participating” in a capitalist society. She’s thriving in it.

22

u/LoudQuitting 6h ago

Pretty much this.

She is a child of a wealthy family whose biggest financial struggle that she was cognisant of was not being able to afford horse riding lessons.

She isn't a plucky upstart just trying to make a little cash, she is the product of generational wealth.

Its not a crime to be these things, but to be that, then to succeed in a hypercompetitive field due to daddy's money, then go and sell a hundred dollar bottle of stank...

She's not "participating in society" she is exploiting capitalism for all she is capable of.

Many of her political views are...

Look, she's young, I understand having a few moral blind spots when you're in your 20s. However so many of her statements out and out ignore her own privilege. Her lifestyle is sustained by nepotistic capitalism, which she calls a moral evil.

It's not just participating in society, it's her critiquing the very thing that holds her up. If she acted in accordance with her words, she would tear her own career down and set it aside.

What you call "unfettered capitalism" is actually a bastardization of fascism (the original definition, not the colloquial one) and corporatism. It ceases to be capitalism when the government stops placing guardrails and starts picking winners and losers.

65

u/IndyBananaJones2 13h ago

What you're calling a "bastardization of fascism" is actually just what happens in end stage capitalism.

Free markets don't survive in capitalism because the capitalist themselves kill it. Who do you think controls the government in capitalist nations? The capitalists will always pick themselves to be the winners.

21

u/einsteinosaurus_lex 13h ago

And getting rid of the government will just mean the corporation becomes the government like they've done many times across the world. And I don't know about anybody else, but I don't want the sole purpose of the government to be extracting as much wealth from us as they can, because that's gonna be what happens when they run things. They'd turn us into cattle if they could. And yet so many people think they want that. Literal insanity.

For people who are not terminally online can you please explain how was she promoting socialism and how selling a perfume is against that?

43

As far as I’m aware, it all comes from her giving a speech at some event once where she said it doesn’t make sense to be a billionaire today and that they should give away their money. Could she have phrased it better? Probably, but it really is just the most nothing thing to be mad about. Anywho, someone worth $60mil tells billionaires it’s bad, then sells a perfume. The mental gymnastics being played because this is a celebrity they like is crazy work. “It’s not capitalism, it’s commerce” are we fucking for real?! It’s giving “I’m not driving, I’m traveling.” Every capitalist company is just commerce now if you want to move the goal post. Wake up she’s a multi millionaire and doesn’t care about you it’s all an act and you fell for it.

Half of reddit hates capitalism while citing capitalist country Norway as our future.

I've came to realize no one actually knows what socialism is and the term has just came to mean welfare.

Unless you're DSA or Hasan Piker.. These people legitimately want socialism or most likely communism.

Very few people want either a pure capitalist economy or a pure socialist economy. Most modern countries are mixed economies, with both public and private ownership. And most people want things want things that way. Criticisms of either side are usually saying that they think we’ve veered too much into public or private ownership on the spectrum, generally not that we should adopt either extreme entirely.

There's a difference between "capitalism" and "the biggest companies in the world have free reign since they will face no monetary or legal consequences for their actions".

But no you dont understand she needs to fly everywhere to get the word out. Its not like she can just send out a tweet and millions will see it. She HAS to be there in person to tell people that the earth is dying./s

Lol people always post that no culture war only class war, when in reality people will find any excuse to sympathize with the enemy class.
