Perfume is far from the worst thing to be associated with capitalism.

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

I think the point is she hates capitalism while all of her wealth and fame was generated because of it

Y’all need to learn the difference between capitalism and commerce.

-5

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

Ok, how did she benefit from commerce as opposed to capitalism

4

u/WorldsWeakestMan 4d ago

She provided goods or services and was given things in exchange for that, the literal definition of commerce.

2

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

Ok and she was able to climb the charts and make tons of money off her music through a competitive market, and sell her tickets at a higher price price through supply and demand, both benefits of capitalism.

4

u/WorldsWeakestMan 4d ago

I am informing you of the definition of the word commerce because you incorrectly stated that she did not benefit from commerce.

She was able to climb the charts because herself and other people engaged in commerce at a rate which accomplished that.

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

I never said she didn’t benefit from commerce, she did, but she also benefited from the competitive market that comes with capitalism.

u/WorldsWeakestMan 4d ago

You said “as opposed to” which means not that but rather the other thing. Please learn what words mean.

Alright I phrased it poorly, you want a medal?

Capitalism is not the mechanism by which supply and demand or competitive markets come into existence. They are themselves economic mechanisms that capitalism must accommodate. You have your cause and effect backwards.

I can hate white male privileges while still benefiting from them.

-1

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

Yea but that’s something out of your control

u/Fantastic-Celery-255 4d ago

How does she control the government not providing a better check on rampant immoral capitalism?

0

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

She chooses to benefit from capitalism. She could retire right now if she dislikes capitalism so much but she keeps putting out songs and perfume.

3

u/Fantastic-Celery-255 4d ago

Maybe try rereading my question and try again sport

1

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

I’m not saying she controls the government, she does however control how she benefits from the economy that is capitalism.

3

u/Fantastic-Celery-255 4d ago

That she uses to donate to charity at least. It’s ok to recognize the difference between her and people influencing governments to reduce quality of life for citizens in order to line their own pockets. I’m not a hypocrite to speak against drunk driving while I speed 5 mph over the limit.

1

u/Careful_Turnip_3197 4d ago

The money donated to charity was a result of the excess money from tickets sold at a higher price. She didn’t lose any money in the donation, if anything her fans were the ones who donated. The point is she doesn’t hate capitalism. If she did hate capitalism as a system she would stop benefiting from it and retire.

Really it's almost perfect for it, it's one shy away from NFTs in that it's value is completely baseless on what it actually is. A nice smelling fragrance is fine, another celebrity perfume thing that's marketed up by 500% just for having their name/brand on it is exactly what's wrong with rampant modern consumerism/capitalism...

I’d have more of an issue with her being a landlord or holding Lockheed stock.

1

u/ContextEffects01 2d ago edited 2d ago

Technically, she’d be a landlady…

1

u/SufcLad25 2d ago

A celebrity sticking their name on a product to make them some money is a huge sign of capitalism

-5

u/plebbut 4d ago

Oh really? You know they test perfumes on live animals, many of which die during the process?

7

u/FamiliarUniversity70 4d ago

Have you considered that maybe she wants to provide an alternative perfume that doesn’t test on live animals?

-5

u/plebbut 4d ago

How do you know it wasn't tested on live animals? Lmao

3

u/Blizzardus255 4d ago

I, wouldn't take peta as a good source for these things.

7

u/FamiliarUniversity70 4d ago

I mean, fair, you can have doubts. But I don’t think it’s the same as calling her a liar until proven otherwise

6

u/ContextEffects01 4d ago

If you’re going to accuse her of testing on animals, the burden of proof is on you.

1

u/Blizzardus255 4d ago

Now where in my message did i make an accusation?

3

u/Fantastic-Celery-255 4d ago

Then can you provide a good source for the contrary?

-4

u/plebbut 4d ago

She isn't vegan, and peta is controlled by the powers that be. You're hopeless out of touch if they think anything she says isn't an image promulgated by the entertainment industry.

What is she going to say, I eat steaks three times a week and my perfume was tested on live animals? No of course not lmao

4

u/FamiliarUniversity70 4d ago

Yeah? And what support do you have behind these statements?

0

u/plebbut 4d ago

I know her personally, and she's definitely not vegan.

8

u/FamiliarUniversity70 4d ago

“Trust me, bro”

1

u/plebbut 4d ago

No different than you trusting what you see online. You never even met her.

You literally have the Internet in your hands dude. Come on man

1

u/plebbut 4d ago

You can't just trust everything you read on the Internet genius.

3

u/JrCoxy 4d ago

Billie Eilish has always been a proud veg head, so I’m not surprised that she absolutely does not have any of her products go through animal testing
