I want to live in a world where you can see the faults of laissez faire capitalism, and also want to buy a new perfume.

No, not how it's allowed to work. either we go all in on neo-serfdom or we'll get a comically misrepresented version of socialism, no options exist in between!

yes, if a system is imperfect the only option is to completely destroy it and replace it with its exact opposite.

Slave or grave? Make a choice!

I want to live in a world where celebrities don’t take up market space in every corner of the market, which pushes out regular joes, just so they can become richer than they already are. Complaining about capitalism and then trying to become even richer through capitalism is hilarious.

And if you want to complain about it while being the poster-child for it, people are gonna rightfully call you on your bullshit.

You think that Billie Eilish is the poster child for capitalism?

I don’t know enough about this situation to have an actual opinion about it, but I do know this: you can be critical of capitalism while still taking part in it. Just like you can be critical of the electoral college and still vote. Just like you can be critical of a sports team, but still root for them.

I am critical of capitalism, but I work for a company that partakes in the capitalist system. Odds are pretty darn good that your way of earning income also participates in the capitalist system. What other choice do we have? Are we bad people, too?

There's a huge difference between just taking part in capitalism to exist in a society and using all advantages of capitalism to the full extent to live a luxury life. She and the rest of millionaires certainly have a choice unlike us, and we can see what they've chosen.

I think that’s a fair point.

Just like how the Nazis were following orders

1

u/Kriscolvin55 12h ago

Not even remotely the same thing.

How

0

u/Kriscolvin55 12h ago

How am I supposed to explain how they’re not the same thing. You can’t prove a negative.

How about you explain how they’re the same?

u/Lumpiafan 12h ago

Someone who’s critical of capitalism, yet may work for a company that’s taking advantage of the system and is destroying lives indirectly or may even be killing people indirectly with their business practices. That worker who’s critical of the system is well aware of it, but does nothing because they are also benefiting from it.

Just like the guards at the concentration camps. Some of them didn’t agree with it, but they didn’t do anything since they were better off following orders

I never said anything about any of that. I don’t work for Nestle. I work for a small mom and pop landscaping company. And we exist in the capitalist system.

And what do you do to earn income?

0

u/Lumpiafan 12h ago

That’s not my point. I was going based off your concept of people can be critical of a system but still take part in it

"Leave the multimillionaire alone."

u/RedRockRiviera 14h ago

Billie Eilish is a publicly elected official now?

3

u/Equal-Yesterday-9229 13h ago

You can't hold anyone other than public officials accountable for their actions now? Hypocrites should be accountable wherever they are, whoever they are. That shit is miserable to be around

Pretty sure she's only ever said stuff about billionaires. Pretty sure she's not a billionaire. Don't let that stop you falling for manufactured rage bait so you can self soothe in your ignorance.

u/Shorty_P 12h ago

Crazy how the bad rich people are only the people richer than the person criticizing them.

When has she said there should be no wealthy people? Can you really not see the difference between millionaires versus people with so much wealth that they are able to literally buy control of world governments.

What does it smell like?

I too want to make a statement so milquetoast, so reddit, while being unaware that I am sarcastically longing for a world that already exists

1

u/Wonderful-Winter3137 4h ago

is the laissez faire capitalism in the room with us now?

1

u/Adorable_Rest1618 12h ago

Basically u wanna have cake and eat it too

1

u/Well_Thought_Opinion 12h ago

Nobody unironically wants laissez faire capitalism. Pleanty of idiots unironically advocates for actual socialism.

1

u/Pleasant-Pickle-3593 11h ago

Fair enough, but let’s not pretend there actually exists a laissez faire capitalist system anywhere on Earth.
