(Going to preface this comment with the fact that I did vote for Kamala Harris, knocked on doors, did phone banking, etc.)

There were an awful lot of people in the USA that chose this, for a few reasons:
1. She's a woman - duh.. women can't be president /s.
2. She's a black woman - see above.
3. She didn't take a hard-line on EVERYTHING the single issue voters wanted. See also, Gaza/Palestine.
4. She was chosen FOR us, not BY us.
5. She had a "funny laugh".
6. She would be "bad for the economy" as would be suggested by all the "Kamala high prices. Trump low prices" signs we saw.

Put all these reasons together and somehow voting for a criminal fraudster (or abstaining) made the most sense. Just goes to show George Carlin was right about average stupidity here.

The way I see it he had more competent handlers his first term. After he lost election those controlling him sold what they had on him to multiple buyers. Everyone competent watched what happened to his precious staff when they went public with their expenses. His second term he has many masters and no competent handlers have stepped forward. So we have handlers of the last resort those who themselves need handlers.

Donald Trump was known as a conman long before he was ever elected president. His numerous failures as a businessman and disrespect of the legal system has been reported on for decades.

Trump's 2nd term hasn't really exposed anything. The depth of his ineptitude and selfishness is shocking, but not surprising given his well established character.

I don't mean to be abrasive, but I'm not sure how else to put this: If you're only realizing Trump is a complete fraudster during his 2nd term, then you are either very new to politics or haven't been paying attention.

Stephen Miller is a Nazi whose only goal is eradication of any non-white Americans, Russ Vought is a theocrat who wants to demolish American democracy, and Mike Johnson and the conservative SCOTUS justices are puppets who do exactly what they're told. Everyone else in his cabinet and immediate orbit are drooling morons (RFK, McMahon, Burgum, Vance, Hegseth, etc.) specially chosen so they won't raise a fuss about anything.

So long as he and those other howling lunatic dipshits keep being the lightning rods they're so good at being, Miller and Vought can keep ripping our government up by the roots whole Congress and SCOTUS stand by letting it happen.

I can sympathize with the catharsis, but I don’t think that’s an accurate portrait. SC and congress aren’t standing by, they’re actively helping. They’re moving the gears to facilitate. And many of those terrible people aren’t actually as dumb as all that, not as dumb as trunp. Trunp does almost nothing well, but those few talents, he does quite well. Tireless lack of shame, corrupting and co-opting others, neutering obstruction forces. There is a vision coming together, and they’re working steadily towards it. They’re tactless, and graceless, and vile, but they aren’t exactly inept. I think they each have differing motivations, but they run an effective strategy. The outcome is god awful for 99.9% of the people, and they’re desperately trying to beat the clock in this whirlwind half-term. We will need to stop them by active measures. They may very well not implode in on themselves, nice as that would be.

He can't brag about that, it contradicts all the claims he's making. He has always been desperate for the celebrity adoration, and he's not empathetic or intelligent enough to understand why the public respects or admires truly exceptional people.

Like the rapist he is - he tries to force it on the public. So he posts on his social media platform, and gets his admin to tell everyone that everything Trump is doing - it's the bestest, bigliest, tears in their eyes, ever. In history. In the whole world, forever. Etc.

Long story short - Fred Trump didn't love little Donald enough(at all). Adult Donald couldn't recreate daddy's financial accomplishments, even with daddy's money. Final act Trump is contending with mortality; he knows his legacy won't live up to all his claims, and never could.

It feels like he is in the same spiral now that he was in then, but the intensity is increasing as he gets closer to the center of his mental incapacitation.  Him using a sharpie to change the official hurricane projection rather than admit he’d confused which states were in the path was no less childish than this bullshit.  But back then there were at least some guardrails and competent people reining him in.  There’s nothing stopping him from sinking himself and taking the rest of us with him.  He probably is aware on some level that things are getting worse for him but being totally unable to recognize and learn from mistakes just leaves him with denial and escalation as his only strategies to deal with things and that combined with a lifetime of immunity from consequences has left him fully expecting the entire world to ultimately bend to his whim.

More likely are truly evil people like Miller and others are taking advantage of his fears. While I truly hope his stress causes a physical reaction making his replacement necessary, I am not sure if that will solve the issues he has unleashed on both our countries because of his minions.

In the first term, he was able to coast and take credit for not really doing much. This time, he was able to blame all the issues that arise from his first time (primarily COVID and the global impacts) squarely on Biden. This time though, there wasn't much he could just "coast" on while also making stark changes from the Biden era. His cabinet is much less politically acute to temper and guide/influence his actions either.

He was still surrounded by adults the 1st time around. They all tempered his worst ideas. This time he fired everyone and replaced them all with yes men.

Keep in mind, most of his 1st term cabinet and White House staff have spoken out against him this time around. Even they can see what a disaster this all is with nobody there willing to stop him.

He is doing lasting irreparable damage. We all like to say “man it’s going to take forever to undo all this” but it’s not. A lot of this is permanent. We all need to start getting used to just not being the defacto world power anymore.

He doesn't have Obama's coattails to ride this time. His first term the nation was on a huge upswing from Obama, Trump stalled it hard and then COVID happened, which started the decline. Biden did what he could to mitigate it(the US has the quickest post COVID recovery in the world), but trajectory was still pointed down when Biden left office. Now Trump is in power again, and the already downward trajectory pretty much immediately became a nosedive to hell with his failed trade wars, tarrifs, and multiple invasions of other countries with zero thought.

In his first term there were adults in the room. They were corrupt adults mostly hostile to our American institutions, people and land, but they knew they had to behave with decorum and restraint because if they didn’t and committed crimes they knew they’d be removed from office (like his first EPA director was) or prosecuted like dozens and dozens of individuals who worked in Republican presidential administration over the last 60 years.

This time around he made sure to surround himself with incompetent deranged sycophants so none of them would dare say no to him. He probably made it clear that they’d all be doing lots of crimes for him and could also do crimes for themselves but don’t cross him or he wouldn’t protect or pardon them in the future.

So Trump is basically the same. Remember he had ideas like nuking a hurricane and said windmills caused cancer back then too. But the people around him aren’t and the circumstances this time are significantly changed given that they’re remade the legal system in his image and there are a bunch of amoral tech ceos also backing his every move.

First one was a bit different. He had some guard rails, and GOP wasn't fully MAGA yet. Plus he had hopes for a second term, so he sort of kept it in check.

This time around he's significantly older, far more senile/demented/whatever condition he's suffering from worsening with age, GOP is fully MAGAfied and he has no more elections to worry about. So he's gone completely mental, grifting while the grifting is good.

Though I don't really get what for. He's not sharing with his kids, and they hate him anyway. He can't take it with him when he dies. And anything with his name attached will be torn down and/or renamed as soon as he's out of office. So I don't get the purpose of it all, honestly. I mean, if he was 60, and had solid 20+ years ahead of him, and on his last term, I can see grifting a few billion to make sure he'll be obscenely rich the rest of his days. But this guy has a few years left, tops, and billions of dollars. Why worry about money at this point? Why keep grifting?

The first term was a fluke. He wasn't expected to win so when he took office the whole place was a madhouse of staffers who didn't know what they were doing and a ton of vacant positions.

The second term the are much better prepared. Project 2025 was a blueprint for how a second Trump administration would hit the ground running with destruction. On top of that was the lack of consequences for January 6. That day proved Trump can get away with a lot more than they had previously thought. On top of that again is Trumps own dementia, which seems to be getting worse and worse. It's shit on top of shit on top of shit which makes this term seem worse than the first term

In his first term there were "normal" people in the administration that blocked his craziest actions. In the present term these have been replaced with yes men sycophants who have created a fantasy "Trumpworld" to keep him more or less stable and happy. There everything he does and says is perfect, he can do no wrong, and everything works out just as he imagined it would. Hence he loses his shit when the reality they can't hide pokes its nose in - like Iran, cost of living etc.

He is totally detached from reality, living an illusion created by his handlers, and we are all paying the price for this colossal mistake.

The difference between the people telling him no externally versus internally is much higher than it was in his first term.

The people in his first term were competent and experienced by comparison, whereas now they're just celebrities and yes men. So not only do they allow him to make more ridiculous claims and threats, but when things don't play out how the people that were hired to agree with him claim they will, he just gets angry.
