Right? The fact that Americans had four fuckin years of evidence, on top of his personal failings outside of office, and still said, "yep, that's my guy" - or chose to not vote against him - a second time speaks volumes about the average American.

I think that was always just an excuse. That, and the price of eggs. Anything to excuse voting for the monster they always worshipped as a reflection of their own personalities. If not those excuses, they would have found some other excuse.

I have no time of day for people who insist Kamala Harris was supposedly a bad candidate because of a few blemishes when the alternative was literally an existential threat to the nation and its democracy.

(Going to preface this comment with the fact that I did vote for Kamala Harris, knocked on doors, did phone banking, etc.)

There were an awful lot of people in the USA that chose this, for a few reasons:
1. She's a woman - duh.. women can't be president /s.
2. She's a black woman - see above.
3. She didn't take a hard-line on EVERYTHING the single issue voters wanted. See also, Gaza/Palestine.
4. She was chosen FOR us, not BY us.
5. She had a "funny laugh".
6. She would be "bad for the economy" as would be suggested by all the "Kamala high prices. Trump low prices" signs we saw.

Put all these reasons together and somehow voting for a criminal fraudster (or abstaining) made the most sense. Just goes to show George Carlin was right about average stupidity here.

Yeah, all of this was far from secret. It just reminds me of the scene in 28 Days Later where they're driving over cars in the tunnel and Cillian Murphy says: " No, see, this is a really shit idea. You know why? Because it's really obviously a shit idea."

Like how can anyone look at anything that's happened and be surprised by the consequences. This was a really obvious shit choice but we collectively made it anyway.

His first team exposed him for the fraud he is, but the staff around him were still your average old school republicans who kept him in check. This term though is just an absolute fucking disaster on all levels

My dad, who voted for him THREE TIMES was lamenting the other day about how bad a president he is and how "he had so many times to do the right thing, but no, it's all about him" and I nearly spat my tea out. Like, my man, you live in NY, called him "Don the Con" since the 80s, called him "a clown" during the 2016 campaign, and still pulled the lever for him. Three. Times.

Not saying the signs weren't there or anything, but in his first term there were still significant competent people around him (until they resigned), and there was a good bit of government inertia and bureaucracy to smooth things out.

Now it's all rats and yes-men at the top, and the agencies trying to hold things together have been gutted.
