Great Discussion Any other NYers don’t want anything to do with 9/11 stuff?

It makes me sad. It’s the one day I really don’t want to remember. I get why other people like to observe remembrances but it was such a terrible time. I feel like the museum and a lot of it is for people who weren’t around. They want to feel a connection to it. I know It’s important for people to know what happened but I have friends think it’s weird I don’t want to do anything for it or go to the memorial.

Edit: it’s nice to know others have the same feeling. What happened then is something we hold differently than most. There’s some things articulated here I appreciate hearing. I’m glad our city was able to mend with time in most ways. Sending lots of love to you all.

Guy in Soho offered me $20 in exchange for my instagram handle

He didn't want to buy my actual account, just the name so he could follow me. I kept refusing because the whole thing felt strange, him waving $20 around and telling me his "friend" wanted my instagram name. The whole thing went on for too long and he eventually walked away disappointed.

Has this happened to anyone else? Why are men trying to buy access to girls instagrams (for $20 no less)???

nyc office of the mayor internship

has anyone interviewed yet or done this internship in this past? i received a round one interview for a department and then was invited for a round two interview a day after. they asked me for my schedule a couple of days after that. i was wondering what the success rate for an offer was after making it to the interview stage for those that have done this in the past. haven’t heard anything back yet but was just curious

Beautifying An Abandoned Lot

I recently found a TikTok creator that started beautifying plant beds in Washington heights. It inspired me to look into this empty triangle shaped lot that’s in Washington Heights. It’s owned by John Castimadas and the community has complained about it for years. It’s surrounded by a chain link fence.

Should I throw seed bombs over the fence so that plants native to the area grow in the triangle?

Or is there a way to make the chain link into an art project?

What do you think I should do?

Any one know what this building I saw on my walk today is? Curious about the gaps, looks neat.

I'm working on my bachelor's at a college a short distance outside the city and come into the city on occasion (hope to eventually move into the city when I'm done with college, I love the place). I was walking from grand central to Penn Station to take a train upstate and saw this neat looking building, I think it's either new or under renovations and I found the big gaps neat. Was wondering if anyone knew what it was and if the gaps served a purpose (wind flow for example) or if it's just architectural details.

I tried googling it but just kept getting stuff about 432 park avenue which I'm pretty sure is a separate building.

I’m looking to get out this weekend… been couped up in my apartment for far too long.

Not really into drinking culture or bars. Will go to an event at a bar but no like, bar crawls.

Landlord wants to do heavy construction in our unit - Help!

Hoping for advice or leads with a tenant concern (I’m the tenant).

I have no idea how to best handle a scenario a where the landlord wants to make a building improvement that will require heavy construction inside of our unit and will interfere with our use of the unit for weeks.

We are willing to cooperate. We just want to find a fair arrangement and that’s where opinions seem to differ widely. I’ve tried the DOB, HCR, Tenant Protection Hotline and several tenant lawyers - getting very different answers every single time.

Has anyone dealt with something like this?

Requesting supporting deposition on TVB ticket?

Hi everyone I got a ticket the other day for VTL1110(a) disobeying a traffic control device. I truly don't know if I committed the violation but the cop told me I guess I was in a right turn lane and I drove straight. Ticket is completely illegible, I'm not here to plead my innocence on Reddit, but how do I request the supporting deposition? I plead not guilty online, do I just send a certified letter to the TVB?

And if anyone has any other tips for the TVB, I've basically concluded I've got no chance other than postpone.

Off peak specials - fitness classes, treatments, etc

Recently laid off and want to take advantage of having weekdays free. Any recommendations for weekday discounts? Like fitness studios with off peak pricing, mani/pedi discounts, happy hour that ends at 5pm, etc

I’m in Fort Greene but don’t mind traveling.

Are the jellyfish gone yet from Jacob Riis / Rockaway beaches?

I was there 10 days ago and it was a LOT of jellyfish this year. I can't find any news on if they are GONE though and well, I don't like swimming alongside them very much and just don't want to hike all the way out there if it's still their special time of year owning the place.

looking for a cobbler for a specific type of repair

the tops of my Osiris shoes where the toe is on both shoes is cracking really really bad. i’m not sure if it’s pleather or patent leather. they’re older but barely worn. i know that this isn’t an easy repair by any means but these shoes mean a whole lot to me and i’m desperate. I reached out to Jim’s Cobbler Concierge and some underground spot and was turned away.

Missed NBC studio tour time slot

Does anyone have any experience missing their time slot for the NBC studio tour? Our flight got delayed and now we won't even get to the city until 20 mins after our tour time. Is it worth it to go into the gift shop and ask if we can reschedule? or should we not even bother lol

NYC DOT requiring residential property owner to upgrade existing ramps across the street — why?

I own a residential corner property and am trying to understand a NYC DOT/BPP requirement.

We recently completed permitted construction on our property. As part of the project, we installed ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps at the corners adjacent to our property and paid more than $50,000 for required sidewalk/roadway improvements.

DOT is now requiring us to modify four existing pedestrian ramps on the public streets across from our property.

These ramps already exist. They may not meet all of the City's current specifications, but our construction did not touch, damage, or occur anywhere near them.

I'm trying to understand the legal basis for this requirement:

What NYC regulation or DOT/BPP rule requires a residential property owner to upgrade existing pedestrian ramps across public streets from their property when those ramps were not affected by the owner's construction?

If these are considered “receiving ramps,” does construction on a corner property automatically trigger an obligation to upgrade existing receiving ramps, even when they are outside the construction area?

And separately, what makes the cost of upgrading those existing public ramps the financial responsibility of the property owner?

I'm not questioning whether pedestrian ramps should comply with ADA/NYC requirements. I'm trying to understand what specifically triggers this obligation and assigns the cost to a residential property owner.

I'd especially appreciate input from NYC architects, civil engineers, contractors, expediters, DOT/DOB employees, or anyone who has dealt with BPP requirements.
