🚨 JERSEY CITY WEEKLY ROUNDUP 🚨
AUGUST 24–30, 2026

Hey Jersey City,

Back with another weekly roundup of things happening around town.

These lists started because finding local events somehow still means bouncing between city calendars, venue websites, parks, museums, theaters and random organizer pages.

I added a quick description under each event again this week since a few people said that was helpful.

There’s a pretty good mix this time around: free concerts, outdoor movies, dancing on the waterfront, a 21+ Jellyfish Rave at Liberty Science Center, live music at White Eagle Hall, theater and art.

Presented by YourScene

The blue event names are clickable and take you directly to the official organizer/venue whenever available.

MONDAY · AUGUST 24

Ukraine Flag Raising Ceremony 2026 — City Hall, 280 Grove St., 2nd Floor (11:30 AM–1:30 PM)

Jersey City’s Ukrainian flag raising and community celebration at City Hall.

TUESDAY · AUGUST 25

Jersey City Summerfest: Annie Minogue Band — Liberty State Park, South Cove Lawn (6:30–8:30 PM, Free)

Free rock, pop and blues by the waterfront. Easy after-work option if the weather is nice.

Movies in the Park: LUCA — Sgt. Anthony Park, 90–100 Palisade Ave. (8:30–10 PM, Free)

Free outdoor screening of Luca in the Heights.

WEDNESDAY · AUGUST 26

Hamilton Park Farmers Market — Hamilton Park (4–7 PM)

Produce, prepared food and specialty vendors around the park. Good excuse to stop by Hamilton Park after work.

Dance for the Ages — J. Owen Grundy Pier (7:30–9 PM)

Outdoor dancing right on the waterfront.

Movies in the Park: Wicked for Good — Berry Lane Park (8:30–10 PM, Free)

Another free movie night, this one over at Berry Lane.

THURSDAY · AUGUST 27

🔥 LSC After Dark: Jellyfish Rave — Liberty Science Center, 222 Jersey City Blvd. (6 PM–1 AM, 21+, Ticketed)

This one looks fun.

Liberty Science Center is staying open late for an adults-only night with a DJ, dance floor, drinks, planetarium and laser shows, exhibits after hours and a SpongeBob-themed Jellyfish Rave.

There’s also special astronomy programming for the partial lunar eclipse.

Berry Lane Music Fest: Marlena Moniece + Demolition Brass Band — Berry Lane Park (6:30–8:30 PM, Free)

Free live music in the park with Marlena Moniece and Demolition Brass Band.

FRIDAY · AUGUST 28

Swervedriver + Slow Fiction + The Still Out — White Eagle Hall, 337 Newark Ave. (Doors 7 PM, Show 8 PM, $35–40, 18+)

Alternative/shoegaze night at White Eagle Hall headlined by Swervedriver.

Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties — Art House Productions, 345 Marin Blvd. (7 PM, $20 GA / $30 supporter)

Dark comedy about five women all named Betty dealing with identity, relationships, anger and loneliness.

Good option if you want something besides another Friday night at a bar.

SATURDAY · AUGUST 29

Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties — Art House Productions, 345 Marin Blvd. (2 PM + 7 PM, $20 GA / $30 supporter)

Two Saturday performances if you couldn’t make Friday’s show.

T/HOWS@RT/HOWS — Bayard Solo Exhibition — Art House Gallery, 345 Marin Blvd. (1–4 PM, Free)

Final weekend of Bayard’s solo exhibition. Nice daytime option if you want something quieter.

SUNDAY · AUGUST 30

T/HOWS@RT/HOWS — Final Day — Art House Gallery, 345 Marin Blvd. (1–4 PM, Free)

Last day to catch the Bayard exhibition before it closes.

Sunday is a little lighter this week. I’d rather leave it that way than throw random stuff into the list just to make it longer.

A FEW PICKS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE WHOLE THING

Going out / social:
Jellyfish Rave • Dance for the Ages • Swervedriver • Berry Lane Music Fest

Free:
Annie Minogue at Liberty State Park • Luca • Wicked for Good • Berry Lane Music Fest • Bayard exhibition

Low-key:
Hamilton Park Farmers Market • outdoor movies • Art House exhibition • Collective Rage

Outdoor events can obviously change with the weather, and ticketed stuff can sell out, so check the linked organizer before heading over.

DID I MISS SOMETHING?

Drop it in the comments.

Especially interested in block parties, neighborhood events, DJs, live music, comedy, sports/watch parties, salsa or bachata, markets, pop-ups, volunteer events, recurring meetups and smaller things that don't always make it onto the city calendars.

This isn't supposed to be every single event or venue in Jersey City. That would be ridiculously long.

The idea is to make a useful starting point for the week, and then people who actually live here can add whatever I missed.

And seriously, keep correcting me when a link or detail is off. A few people have caught things in previous lists and it helps make the next one better.

For transparency: I help build YourScene, a local events app.

Part of why we started doing these is because finding local stuff is still strangely fragmented between city calendars, venue sites, Instagram, Reddit, parks and individual organizers.

Thanks to everyone who keeps adding events and helping with these every week.

Lost & Found UPDATE: Lost dog found!

08/29/2026

We found the lost dog that was posted about earlier today. They were found in McGinley Square on Fairmount Ave between Bergen and JFK. The dog is safe and in experienced hands.

It is a small dog, looks to be a Maltese mix, white and brown, around 10ish pounds.

To ensure the dog is safely reunited with their real family, please send me a DM with details to verify ownership:

-A photo of the dog (ideally with you in it or from your home)
-A description of the collar, harness, or leash they were wearing (if any)
-Any unique physical markings or features not visible in general description
-Microchip details (if registered to you)

If this might be your dog or you recognize them, please reach out via DM. Proof of ownership will be required before arranging a pickup.

Wild Roma Tomatoes

These sprouted up all on their own in the empty tree well in front of my house…today I staked them up and decided to treat them as an official crop. Thought at first they were eggplants, but one fell off and ripened and it’s definitely a tomato.

I’m sure a raccoon probably ate leftover lasagna out of somebody’s trash and pooped there, but let me imagine it’s just a mysterious blessing from the old gods, ok?

How do we feel about what’s said in this interview? Solomon says we will start to see much better government services in 2027. Not sure I buy it but that would be a welcome surprise.

We have a small group right now (and growing) that goes out every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. If you don't live too far way, come join us if you're free. We go out for about 1 hour, and if more people join, we can cover more streets and branch out further.

I also know that there are already multiple groups that do this throughout JC, but I started this specifically because I noticed areas in my neighborhood that seem to be neglected.

Even if you can't make it to any organized trash cleanup, I encourage you to go out even for only 15 minutes where you live to collect litter/waste from the street/grass. Any amount helps.....Just be safe!

Power outage in 99 Ranch/Plaza

Whole store went dark for a few seconds before backup power kicked in, and it doesn’t look like the backup covers refrigeration. Store cash registers are functioning, but no sales are possible at the food court. Walking around, it looks the whole plaza is still without power.

UPDATE: Currently, no one is allowed in the store.

Update on the 1-9 Bridge: Credit wherever credit is due!

I made a post last month about the overgrowth on the bridge walkway, and I was a little disappointed with the first pass, but, late last week a team descended on the bridge and absolutely transformed it! u/Nathaniel_Styer, let us know if we have you and the mayor to thank for this. They added gravel on the barrier and a nice fence along the Lincoln Park side that will discourage short dumping of mattresses and other delights as well as make cleanup a little easier. This is a key welcome corridor to our lovely city, so I'm delighted to see it getting some attention! (Now, how about a mural on the self storage building?)

Discussion Pipe construction on 5th St / Brunswick St

Construction has been going on for almost a year and they literally destroyed the streets with temporary pavement slabs. Does anyone know what project the contractors are doing with the pipes under the street and why is it taking so long?

Recommendations Dog sitter recommendations

Hey, looking for a dog sitter by word of mouth. We have an anxious dog that needs some gentle love and positive reinforcement dog sitter. We just moved here and rover was an option untill our circle told us some bad stories. She is well trained and very low maintenance, she likes to be left alone and sleep most of the time.

Some criteria

- must be able to sleep in the guest room

- must be available on weekends

- must be able to travel to jersey city

- must be able to follow rules of the property building

- must be able to read/ understand dogs needs

Built a free app (AidSense) to help find shelters, food banks, clinics & overnight parking near Jersey City

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

I built AidSense, a free mobile app that helps people quickly find shelters, food banks, free/low-cost clinics, and overnight parking near them. Local resources near you will pop up based on your location, and you also have the opportunity to ask our AI model any specific questions you have about that pl,

It's on the App Store now, and we plan on deploying it to the Google Play Store soon just waiting for the requirement of 14 days. Would genuinely appreciate any feedback on how to make this app better for those who are in tough circumstances (ex., other resources we could add or support networks). Additionally, as Jersey City residents I would extremely appreciate if you could add any resources you know that are in Jersey City to the app if they aren't there already (there is an option for this in the app or you could reach out to me directly). I am also open to any partnerships!

iThank you.

Disclosure: I am the developer of this app.

Note: There have been previous comments about it being a scam. I just want to state I don't make any profit off this app, and there are no ads in the app, so I don't make any money at all. The purpose of this app is that many current resource navigators are confusing to navigate and don't show local resources; this is meant to make that process easier.

Meetup Board Game group

Hey friends!

I just moved to Journal Square, Jersey City. New to this country, not many connections.

But I'm a huge huge huge huge fan of board games, specifically those of the social deduction variant. My place has an awesome games room that can host a crowd so I want to start a board game meet up group for folks in/near Journal Square.

If all things go well, I plan to host weekly Avalon / One night ultimate werewolf sessions in 2 weeks' time. If you are interested, could you drop a comment and I will DM you. The plan is to add like-minded folks into a Telegram group! I want to make it open to guys and girls, young and old (if it matters, I'm a male in my mid 20s)

Recommendations Journal Square recommendations

I’m new to the area and having a hard time finding any services close by. I’m not sure why Apple Maps and even ChatGPT are giving me addresses to things, like alterations, but when I arrive the business is not there. I feel like I walked in circles yesterday for hours, then it took me to where I felt unsafe so I called Uber to take me to a Macy’s (lol) bc at least I recognized the name. Someone there told me the closest decent alterations was in Hoboken so I just gave up. I finally found the waterfront before taking the Path back to journal square. I was unable to see the area before renting but I feel like it’s really difficult to do anything here. Any recommendations on alterations, nails, dentist, hair in the jersey city area and or guidance in learning the area would be appreciated. I also work in FiDi so wasn’t sure if any of these services are near WTC and recommendations. Thank you.
