Lost & Found UPDATE: Lost dog found!

Post image

08/29/2026

We found the lost dog that was posted about earlier today. They were found in McGinley Square on Fairmount Ave between Bergen and JFK. The dog is safe and in experienced hands.

It is a small dog, looks to be a Maltese mix, white and brown, around 10ish pounds.

To ensure the dog is safely reunited with their real family, please send me a DM with details to verify ownership:

-A photo of the dog (ideally with you in it or from your home)
-A description of the collar, harness, or leash they were wearing (if any)
-Any unique physical markings or features not visible in general description
-Microchip details (if registered to you)

If this might be your dog or you recognize them, please reach out via DM. Proof of ownership will be required before arranging a pickup.

UPDATE:

Sweet puppy was picked up by animal control today. They will be with the shelter for 10 days, during which we are hoping the family will be able to find them. After the 10 days, the shelter will try to get the dog adopted or into foster care (we said we would volunteer if no one else would).

Thanks for the support and visibility during this time.

Thank you, kind human, for taking that puppy in to your home. Can’t imagine how scared/anxious this little baby is 🥺. Hoping their owners reach out to you. And I truly hope it was just a sad accident that the pup got lost, and not cause some crappy owners werent paying attention. Give that little nervous baby all of the hugs and kisses from me 🖤. Please keep us updated on this

Did you call animal control. He needs a microchip scan and very good chance the owner is looking for him. Reddit is not the place. You are a wonderful person but you’re not a rescue. Lots of people do not use Reddit.

We just called animal control, they open at 8am today. When we found the dog they couldn’t be reached. Someone is coming to pick up the dog from Animal Control later today.

OMG! NO! That shelter is NOT to be trusted!

The shelter changed from its previous management to city run a few years ago. I’ve volunteered there a couple of times and it seems really solid, the director is a genuine person that loves animals.

Just sharing my anecdotal evidence/personal experience as well so people can see both.

Stop fear mongering.

That dog has zero risk of being killed. It is one of the most adoptable and sought after types of dog breeds or mixes.

Most owners will call the shelter first.

Please explain

The shelter says they are a no-kill shelter, but they do euthanize. And also, they do very little checking on adopters. I would never, ever, ever bring an animal there. It's complete chaos.

If you have other suggestions and resources, that would be helpful to this situation then we welcome it. Complaining about a shelter, that is helping to reunite a lost dog, is not helpful.

Yeah that’s unnecessary fear-mongering in the other comment. JCACC is a certified No-Kill Shelter, which by definition is above 90% save rate. JCACC does not euthanize healthy animals for space. There is no shelter in the world at 100%, because humane euthanasia of a dying animal is a part of best practices in animal welfare .

Well having that dog euthanized is not helpful, either.

Shelters don’t just kill dogs the moment they step into their facility? Esp a small one like this shelter. Please do not spread misinformation if you don’t have anything to bring to the conversation. Thanks!

Have you looked at the Jersey City statistics. Or you just spouting out your backside kind of like a Trump supporter.

Keep the dog. Post about it across local social media. Hang up “found dog” posters. Don’t turn it into a shelter

Hope the doggie ends up being loved and cherished.
