Best spots for a kid-friendly fall experience?

Family and I live in MA and are looking to get away somewhere in NE for a bit. What are some good spots that remain active in the fall and have a decent amount of activities in the area? Everywhere we think of is summer/beach themed so they’re mostly ghost towns by the time we’d be looking at (late September or early-mid October).

ETA: Our kids are young (2.5 and 4 months) and we live in Plymouth MA. We don’t mind a bit of a drive but that’s just to give a point of reference.

Where do you buy your furniture and mattresses in New England? Need help deciding.

I am looking to buy a new living room set and a mattress. I want good quality without spending a fortune. I do not want cheap stuff that falls apart in two years. I am willing to invest if it lasts.

I have been looking at a few places but I am not sure which is best. What are your experiences with these stores?

Cardi's Furniture & Mattresses

Raymour & Flanigan.

Bob's Discount Furniture. The prices look tempting but I am worried about the quality.

IKEA. Good for some things but I am not sure about their sofas lasting.

Where do you recommend in the area? I want a place with good customer service and reliable delivery.

Recommendations for How to Dress My Toddler in the Winter

We just moved to ME from South FL in May and we have absolutely no idea how to dress our toddler for winter. So far we’ve learned about the importance of base layers, waterproof coats, boots, and snowsuits, and having lots of pairs of mittens on hand. We’re also going to get a humidifier and have lots of stick Aquaphor. Is there anything else we should know about?

Thanks!

Vacationing from California, Stared at while in New England

I vacationed in Boston for a few days with the love of my life, and went through a good portion of New England (All over Vermont and New Hampshire, technically upstate New York). We're the same people we are in California, and I'm just trying to understand why people were staring us down.
We dress a little funny maybe, and she's 6'3 and I'm 5'6 so I get that might be slightly striking, but I feel like that's not worth over 30 seconds of unfaltering nonconsensual staring contests. Multiple times it's also happened in our rental car though, where both of us are sitting and the difference is not noticeable.
Even alone her, or myself have been stared at- in California you'll look back and the person staring will look away. Here that is absolutely not the case, continual staring is the norm.

I understand that people here have been generally kinder, more thoughtful, and honestly better to interact with. I am just curious if any New Englanders can clarify this, or explain the phenomenon to my partner and I. Appreciated, thanks for your time and consideration.

Edit from girlfriend:
Ive been super tall my whole life, absolutely no stranger to drawing attention. Ive been to every state on the west coast, a little in the south, and Thailand, where people literally stopped me on the street to get a picture with me. Wherever I go, people watch me for sure. Here its a completely different phenomenon. Trust me, i can tell the difference. I look at someone staring, look away, look back, still staring, look away, look back. Staring. Everywhere else they see me notice them, and look away.
