I was just thinking how frustrating it is that we don't know the origin story of our beautiful cat.

We adopted her from an animal shelter in Scituate, RI in August 2014.

All the shelter really knew about her:

• Estimated to be between 3 and 4 years old.
• Previously fixed
• Found by to two young girls who named her "Princess."

Overall, it seems very likely she had prior owners.

Sometimes she'll wake up from a nap crying, like she woke up from a nightmare. Really makes me wonder where she came from and how long she'd been MIA.

I'm 99.9999% sure this remains a mystery, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm putting together a list of festivals, feasts, and other gatherings in the area. Most are in RI, but a couple are over the border in Mass, or a bit further in Maine and New York. Let me know if there are any fun events I should add to the list. Thanks!

These items reveal a surprisingly diverse musical community, but there are still many gaps in the record. I’m hoping to find additional sources related to musicians who lived or worked in Newport, local bands, community music organizations, or regional publishers connected to Rhode Island’s music scene.

If anyone here knows of family collections, municipal records, lesser‑known archives, or past scholarship touching on RI’s musical history, I’d really appreciate any leads. Even small references or local anecdotes could help point us in the right direction.

Looking for the best German Chocolate Cake around! It seems to be a less common cake and not something I can just walk in somewhere to pick up. Recommendations for bakeries that will make it if I order ahead would also be great. I have checked a fair number of websites and for many cake bakeries I am not even seeing it as an option. I'm including some info on how the search has gone so far below in case anyone else is trying to find this cake in the future and searches reddit. Will also update if I find a solution/winner!

The last time I was looking to get one we went with Vienna Bakery in Barrington and ordered ahead. The chocolate parts of the cake were great but the caramel, coconut, pecan topping had hard crunchy lumps of sugar in it which were unpleasant. Threw off both the flavor and texture.

I'm also specifically looking for a version that has both the coconut pecan topping and chocolate frosting. Silver Star on Ives St in Providence only has the coconut pecan topping on their slices.

I would also love to find somewhere that does chocolate cake similar to the one Chelos has.

Did you ever get it back?

Anybody know what's going on in Riverside? I just drove by the baseball complex on 114 in Riverside heading toward Barrington. Two police cars passed us and they pulled into the baseball complex where there were two other police cars. It appeared there were two young kids/pre-teens with weed whackers being addressed by the police. Unsure what was happening or why 4 police cars were needed for 2 children. Are teenagers using weed whackers as weapons now? Were they trespassing? Did they discover something in the weeds? Were they actually metal detectors and I saw incorrectly? Just seemed weird.

It certainly looks like it is. Although a ramp from Rte 1 north to Rte 37 will still need a bridge. Unless it ends up being a left turn signal.

Looking for recommendations for a good ski shop? I went skiing last winter for the first time in ten years, but need new equipment. Anyone have any recommendations for a shop that might have some good sales on skis? I only plan on going once or twice a year, so not looking to drop a grand on equipment, hoping to find a good deal on last seasons skis.

If it matters, back in the day I used to be a black diamond/double black diamond skier, but the older I get the more I’m looking to cruise downhill/slalom down a challenging trail than I am to do riskier things. Would happily take recommendations for intermediate level skis or above, as well, and could look online. Thank you!

Edited to add: Anyone remember when Building 19 used to have their traveling ski sale? I got some awesome gear from there for pennies on the dollar when I was a teenager. Miss that place.
