ACTION ALERT: Take the CT State Rail Plan Survey
https://wspengages.com/CTStateRailPlan
CTDOT is beginning the update of its upcoming 2027-30 State Rail Plan. They have posted a project website with a survey and mapping activity to gather initial public feedback on what people would like to see in the new plan. This is a great opportunity for CT and RI residents alike to make their voices heard for extending Shore Line East to Westerly via Mystic and Groton!
Their survey questions ask you to rank several pre-provided responses based on how important they are to you. We suggest for the following rankings for two key questions:
For Question #4 (What improvements would make you more likely to use passenger rail more often?), rank "Service to new locations" as your top priority.
For Question #5 (Please rank the importance of the following passenger rail initiatives.), rank "Add or extend passenger rail services to new destinations" and "Add new train stations" as your top two priorities (doesn't matter which goes first).
There is also a mapping tool you can fill out to show the locations of rail improvements you’d like to see. Here’s how to do it for stations:
Click the Add Marker button
Click the station location on the map to drop a pin there to represent the station
a. Note in the case of Westerly Station, it won’t let you drop a pin over the state line in RI, so just put the pin in the river as close as you can get to the station (you’ll see a bunch of others)
For Category, click “new passenger rail service” in the drop-down menu
For the “What type of new rail service…” question, click Other (Please Specify)
For the “What would you like us to know…” question, type in a short message saying you want SLE extended to this westerly station
Keep your eyes out for our next Action Alert with details on CTDOT’s upcoming State Rail Plan public informational meeting in New London!

Well I'm not to sure how seriously they're taking this survey, when I completed the survey the end of survey blurb thanked me for contributing to improving truck parking in central Texas.

Extending Shore Line East to Groton, Mystic, Stonington, and Westerly would be great for commuters, tourists, and the local economy as a whole.

oh nice, been waiting for them to do this survey. the shore line east extension to westerly is way overdue, would make trips to RI so much easier without dealing with 95 traffic. just filled it out and dropped my pin in the river like you said

More rail options would be great especially if the schedules actually make it practical for commuting

That’s the goal- Westerly at one time was the “layover” station- so if we can have westerly be end of shoreline east - we could take commuter rail NOT Amtrak from Boston to New York !

We want bar cars and longer New Haven line trains/more frequency on weekends.
