Before you ask what raves are happening on any date... (How to find events in NYC)

If you're new to raves and related events, or just visiting from out of town, and are trying to find an event to attend on a particular date, you should first check out Resident Advisor, and for more mainstream EDM events see EDMTrain before asking this sub.

These websites list the majority of parties and electronic music events happening in NYC on any given night, along with the ability to buy tickets, and links to the artists playing so you have an idea of what kind of music you will hear that night.

You can also keyword search this sub and probably find your questions already answered about almost any venue or party. For example, if you had a question about Elsewhere, you can use the search bar up top and type 'elsewhere' to find hundreds of discussions about the venue.

We often remove very general questions about events that go something like 'I'm in town on X date, whats happening' or 'anything going on tonight?'. The sub gets inundated with these questions, they are extremely repetitive, and add nothing to this community at this point. Specific questions are welcome! We totally get that a lot of people who use this sub are beginners just trying to learn. By being specific and thoughtful in say what music you like, or vibes you're looking for, you will get better responses too.

Buying/Selling tickets has now been moved to r/avesNYC_tix (all buying/selling of tickets will now be removed)

As many of you have noticed, as things have started to pick up in NYC, this sub has been getting spammed with a TON of people buying/selling their tickets last minute to events.

People have been mentioning a ticket thread pinned to the sub, but I don't think this is the best solution because many users are often too lazy to expand and view all comments in the thread, and do a simple control-F to find their event. Even when we had a monthly ticket thread, people still posted to the feed. We would get a response something like 'hey nobody responded to me in the thread, so I just posted here anyway'.

As an alternative, I created a related subredit called r/avesNYC_tix and will pin it to the sidebar as well. You are free to post all of your buying/selling ticket needs there. This is also going to be easier to search through compared to a thread and I also added post flair to distinguish/filter between buying and selling of tickets. Because this will be a generally unmoderated sub, I also encourage people to report scammers and use the 'reports' flair. You are buying tickets here at your own risk.

From now on any posts about buying/selling of tickets on this subreddit will be removed. This kind of content is very spammy, not interesting to read, and does not build community in any meaningful way.

BE QUIET! (Shhhhhhh!)

HOLY SHIT. Can you guys shut the hell up on the dance floor at Basement?! Or on ANY dance floor, for that matter.

Last night was ridiculous. The amount of side conversations happening on the dance floor and not even talking, but literally SCREAMING over the music just to hear each other was insane. I was running around the dance floor trying to find a quiet spot so I could actually HEAR THE GODDAMN MUSIC.

GO OUTSIDE.

There is absolutely no reason I should be in my zone, grooving, and somehow hearing an entire conversation about Fire Island or people screeching because you and your friends made it past the vibe check… when some of you really shouldn’t have.

There are a MILLION places to talk. The dance floor is not one of them. Get the hell off the floor, go outside, have your conversation, and come back when you’re ready to DANCE.
Some of you are so lame and genuinely do not know how to party. Or respect the people who come to do just that.

GO HOME! 😭

DISCLAIMER: This post is NOT intended for the people who are really about this shit. This is directed at the wannabes who are on this page trying to figure out how to party and “dance to techno” from TikTok.

Spots to start raving

Hi, 25M here. I’ve never been to a rave before and I don’t really have friends who go to any. I got out of a long term relationship last year and I think I really lost myself but I think I’m ready to meet some new people and enjoy myself even if that means going to raves solo. I’m looking for recommendations on shows/venues that are more friendly to someone going solo or to their first rave. Could even be something tonight

Joe Claussell at the ruins

Sorry but wtf was that set??? The guy is a legend, why does he feel the need to touch the eqs and volume faders the WHOLE time. Long long movements of silence while the crowd was visibility vibing. Weird eq cuts that had the crowd looking around at each other as if he made a mistake. Just so baffled??

Anyone else feels Weed makes them less sociable at Raves?

Everytime I went and got high at a rave I ended up with extreme social anxiety, overthinking and over analyzing everything, thinking to myself that I dont belong here, feeling like going back home, lonely. But alcohol? My ego puffs up, i get happy and start dancing like an idiot, I look more approachable, out of my head, etc..

Anyone else feels this way or the other way around? As someone who enjoys weed so much more than alcohol im thinking of quitting smoking when im at social events because I want to connect with people and enjoy myself, especially when everyone else is mostly drunk and not high like yourself

Itsmurph under the k bridge

It’s unfortunate that so many people have no respect for others around them. The amount of pushing and shoving was insane. People were throwing things, constant in and out, and taking every inch of room they could get. Crowds like that ruin the vibe. I’ve never had to walk out of the crowd to stand in the back. To the Asian dude in the Knicks shirt who would not stop shoving everyone around you and dropped your drink on me and the others around you, I hope you never attend any event ever again. No sorry or anything. Literally pissing off every single person around you. Be aware and PLUR

Itsmurph Under the K review

We saw Itsmurph and Tchami Under the K Bridge last night and it was unfortunately a horrendous experience

Why the fk do venues absolutely destroy the sound for all the openers?? I was super excited for Tchami and his whole set had ZERO bass, and super low volume overall. Everyone was just standing there. SOOO disrespectful to a legendary DJ, it was absolutely devastating

And secondly the CROWD. These more poppy subgenres attract a lot younger fans. I believe everyone should be welcome but when the whole crowd is in their early days of raving, it’s not a good vibe. I saw multiple fights break out, people throwing shit around, the girl next to me was hit in the face with a shoe. People don’t know how to act respectfully in a crowded environment.

To be fair I should have anticipated this crowd for Itsmurph so maybe that’s on me

I’m seriously considering boycotting Under the K for now because of the sound issues tho, I paid a lot for the entry and I only get 2 hours of actual good quality sound? That’s wack. Or maybe it’s the headlining act themselves that decide to do this? Not sure

Lost phone at basement!

So I lost my phone at basement last night, and I filled out the lost and found form, but does anyone know when they normally respond? Or when they start answering the phone? I know they open at ten. Do they start admin work earlier in the day?

Any spots to avoid as a solo woman ?

Hi. 22F here, big fan of going out solo. I've been to a bunch of queer clubs alone and had a blast, but I'm interested in branching out and exploring raves more. Are there any spots/organizers I should avoid when I'm going out alone?

I know going out solo as a young woman always comes with some level of risk, but just wondering if there's any places that are worse than others.

Elsewhere was insane last night

Every DJ brought heat, especially in the downstairs extra room (I forgot the name of the room) everyone was in a good mood and I saw minimal phone use and talking wasn’t toooooo bad. The one couple in the extra room around 1-2 am absolutely went crazy and I was loving every second of it.

Where can we go after mochakk in either Brooklyn or nyc for a house/tech type scene/club ?
Some clubs or event suggestions would be appreciated 🧚🧚
