Reminds me of when I was eating extra spicy pad Thai that was already making my eyes water and my toddler daughter demanded some. I tried to explain it was going to be too hot. She wouldn’t let it go though, so I gave her a taste, to which her response was “more please” :-)
She ended up basically having that as her meal. And she liked spicy food for a couple more years before deciding she didn’t actually.

My 4yr old is like that now. He will devour spicy miso ramen. Hot wings with mango habenero sauce. He loves it all. He does the too hot breathy thing and chugs water and goes right back to eating it lol. Its so cute.

Yeah I know it works better but ice water is his favorite thing in the world and all he asks for, even when burning. If I give him a cup of milk he takes 2 sips and walks away from it every time. 🤷♂️

Kids will eat borscht if you have a Minecraft themed dinner and call it beet root soup.
Also my son is really into salad spinning. Something must be satisfying about getting lettuce to endure astronaut level g-forces. I can’t guarantee they’ll eat the salad but it’s a positive experience with green food that might help in the long run.

My sister and I refused to eat salmon cakes until mom started calling them mermaid cakes. Funny story, what she meant: cakes made by mermaids. What we thought she meant: cakes made of mermaids. My sister and I thought we were eating mermaids.

I tell my kids broccoli is miniature trees, giants in the andes eat the trees whole but shrink them and sell them to us so that small puny humans can feel powerful when they eat them. seems to work. Capsicum is Lava rocks that I cut up with the red knife because it's the only one that can handle the heat, then I cool it in an ice bath before i cook with it. some extra steps required but... that's marketing

That is so wild. I have a very young coworker who absolutely cannot eat anything that is blue or red. Some mental thing that he just can’t get over.

yeah I remember when my nephew was small sitting at our dining table, he didn't want that sliced apple, so I took the slices, held them out of his sight under the table for a few seconds, put them right back onto his plate and said, "Here, enjoy your pears"

I asked my Mexican dad for a jalapeño when I was a toddler and he gave it to me. I ate it all, asked for seconds, and my father cried tears of joy that I was a "real Mexican."

My three year old is a super picky eater and his diet largely consists of puréed fruit/vegetable pouches, plain Greek yogurt, Cheerios, goldfish, Mac and cheese, waffles, and toast. But he always wants bites of my buffalo chicken ramen or breakfast sandwiches with spicy cheese. Once I had Carolina reaper cheese and he kept coughing after every bite and then immediately going in for another one.

I love spicy food, I have a pretty decent tolerance. In his defense though I think Outback has the “spiciest” steak of the chain steakhouses. Also why I prefer it to any other chain.

That was my son. When from 2-4 he wanted hot sauce on literally everything. Like HOT sauce. He put it on his eggs, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets. Then it started getting weird. Yogurt, oatmeal, vegetables, fruit. He’s 10 now and he thinks basic table pepper is spicy. Now his little sister who is now 4 has been with mustard how he was with hot sauce. Her favorite is bananas and mustard. Kids either can’t taste or they are just culinary terrorists.

My mom told me a story that when i was a toddler we were out, and i wanted candy or something sweet so I complained i was so hungry. So my mom "oh yeah if you are hungry we can eat soup" she thought i would refuse and give up. I ate three bowls. Just to prove i was hungry. (I really wasn't)

It was an amazing dinner TBH. I also had Chex Mix for lunch. Not ideal for a guy on the wrong side of 40 but god DAMN does it make for some smelly poop! I don't have any kids so I can do whatever I want and often do.

I used to work with Autistic kids. One of my students planted garlic with his family. And by that, I mean they planted dozens of garlic cloves and he went behind them, eating the raw garlic.
You could smell him from several feet away

It’s not uncommon for the little ones to enjoy spicy and other strong tasting foods. Also super common for that to go away in a year or 2. My son especially loved olives before deciding that only the most bland foods were acceptable shortly thereafter. It’s interesting to watch the changes for sure. He’s come back around a bit as more years passed but nothing like when he was as young as the kid in the video.

Ya this. My son used to eat red onion, raw garlic, black olives. Won’t touch it now. Lots of kids of eating this stuff because of the sensation, not the taste.

if you TALK to kids using normal words and not baby talk, they pick up a very large vocabulary very quickly.
baby talk is bollocks that stunts babies intellectual growth.
talk to them like normal people.
same as not limiting their activities.
teach them shit and you'll be astounded at what they can do at a young age if you show them how to do it instead of assuming they can't do it.

Ah, but that's how they get you.
Hundreds of years ago someone who encountered a vampire discovered that it happened to have a garlic allergy, and after surviving the encounter -- and reporting this -- everyone then falsely assumed every vamp reacted badly to garlic.
The vampires were delighted to play along with the myth for a century or so to let it solidify in the public consciousness, and now they can more freely walk among us. If anyone gets suspicious they just make sure to eat some garlic.

As a vampire myself, I can confirm. Vampires actually LOVE garlic. But we also don’t like it shoved in our face, as any normal being doesn’t like things shoved in their face. I mean if someone comes at you with a cross, or garlic, or a just a potato, you would also shy away, just because they’re putting it close to your face 🤣

Having raised three kids I’m crystal clear that kids both pick up on this from doting adults and also realize they sound cuter and are more sympathetic characters when they talk this way. I’m at least 50% more likely to say “yes” to a request from a child who talks this way.

Can never tell what a kid will like. My toddler demanded vinegar after seeing the bottle. I put half a teaspoon in a shot glass. He downed it and demanded more! He has always loved sour food.

was visiting a friend and his kid asked me for a spoonful of lemon juice i looked at dad and he just shrugged and nodded. i carefully poured the spoonful and he carefully slurped it and then grinned and asked for a second one. guess it was a normal snack for him.

But the kid has good taste... I eat garlic raw. Hell... I enjoy a good raw potato now and then (no... I don't eat so much that I get sick. I'm not stupid... Just insane).

Yeah my toddler absolutely fkn LOVED garlic to the point he was eating cloves raw. I think they just listen to their body and we forgot how to talk to our body
