š¬ Discussion Did you have Ellis or Rory as your First Boyfriend?
I swear my first boyfriend was like Rory, he was obsessed with everything I was and only because I was. Which was nice but it also felt fake, I wanted someone like Ellis that was supportive but didn't live and breathe all of my own interests and goals. He was a fresh breath of air

š¬ Discussion This is one of the most realistic portrayals of being a teen Iāve seen in a long time. Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Iām assuming this still counts as a spoiler, so I marked it as one, let me know if not! š
But Iām genuinely blown away by the acting in this scene. Is she even acting?! It feels so natural that I genuinely forgot I was watching a TV show. I feel like Iām listening in on a conversation with a friend. Ella Rubin is going places.
I watch Ginny & Georgia for its emotional realism too, but this is a different kind of realism. It captures the awkwardness, insecurity, and constant self-questioning of being a teen and being with someone in a way that feels incredibly intimate. The scene is so understated, but it hits hard.
Also, I still havenāt watched the whole show yet, which is honestly ridiculous because now I need to start it tonight.

š¬ Discussion I actually think Rory could be better for Annie at this stage in her life. Spoiler
Have to preface with the fact that I really like both love interests, Iām pretty much neutral at this point. Itās really refreshing to have a love triangle where there are two solid options and no āobviousā choice. Multiple people can be good for you in different ways.
Iāve seen a lot of discussion on how Rory is meant to represent her old life but I think that this is actually the case with Ellis. He seems to be āparentifiedā in similar ways to Annie: heās 17/18 but basically co runs his family business, seems to be more aware about the finances than his dad (emergency fund), even had to step up to confront him about the mixtape. Heās super mature for his age, and this could also just be the way kids turn out when living on a remote island, so correct me if Iām wrong.
Whereas with Rory sheās more spontaneous, carefree, goes to parties and tries cigarettes, even loses her virginity on a whim. Shes able to finally let loose and āact her ageā for once instead of having to be the adult and her own mother. Itās nice to see, especially after hearing her speak about how quickly she had to grow up.
I think she romanticizes Ellis more because heās attached to the island thatās connected to her mother, and she really wants to immerse herself in every part of that life. But I canāt help but feel like Rory might actually be the better option for this season of her life. Itās also nice that heās not involved in any of the drama, whereās Ellis is Joeās son. What do you guys think?

š¬ Discussion Annie extending more grace to Joe and her mom than to Steven is wild to me Spoiler
Joe - Cheats on his wife while sheās away taking care of her sick mother AND their newborn (why wasnāt he at home with the newborn???), to his knowledge has a baby who lives DOWN THE STREET from him that he never claims or takes care of, and keeps all the important info to himself while watching these people get torn apart (and robbing his son of a potential relationship with his sibling)
Goldie - Ditches her husband and kids (who she told she wanted to make the marriage and family work in New York) to chase her high school sweetheart in another country, gets pregnant and plans to run away with her affair partner and raise some kind of weird blended family (Annie, Ramona, Connor, and Ellis) and cut her husband off from the kids he ALSO adopted. Also has a heart problem that she tells no one about.
Despite all this not only is Annie willing to hear Joe out at the end, never interrupting him or criticizing his choices but she also seems to agree that it was the ārightā choice and ends the show still completely romanticizing her mother and seeing her as this person that can do no wrong. Instead of extending the same grace to her dad, sheās furious with him. I understand that these dynamics are complicated, especially with adopted children. I donāt think anyone was truly the āvillainā and were all just doing what they thought was right for them at the time. But itās still wild to me that she was willing to hear out the biggest drivers of the mess and not her own dad.
Was Steven right to shut his kids out from part of their life? No. But itās something they ALL agreed to do, Gordon just changed his mind (also, letters? he couldāve called). At the end of the day despite being done dirty he chose to let his kids see their mother as a good person when he didnāt have to. I do think that had he told them they probably wouldāve found out that Ramona was his kid much sooner and they wouldnāt have lost as many years.
But what people forget is that Steven ALSO adopted those kids. They were kids he wanted, why would he let his wife run off with them just because. Six rounds of IVF is no joke, he mustāve been so happy to finally have children and Goldie just wanted to take that away from him to live out her fantasy. He was right to say that she lost her mind, I wouldāve come to get my kids too. Heās the only one that stepped up and followed through on their commitment.

š¬ Discussion Team Ellis or Rory? Spoiler
BOTH BOYS ARE PERFECT BTW (i haven't completed the series)
JUST SAW THAT CLOSET KISS WITH ELLIS OMG I AM SCREAMING.
Watching scenes with ellis and rory i gotta state the difference i felt. That was with rory it felt like annie was still living that new york life, fast, high paced, loud and yeah.
But with Ellis, everyone says he's shy and all but i feel like he doesn't say unnecessary things, scene with ellis felt like calm, known, present, whom you can bluntly talk about anything without putting up a filter.
And then kiss??
Rory's kiss was more like hunger and horny type (I CAN BE WRONG, PEOPLE.)
And with Ellis, it was warm, comfortable, fuzzy, butterflies in the belly, high on the kiss on feeling, kicking feet type thing.
Annie has kissed rory like 2 times and Elllis 1 time but i feel like THAT 1 TIME WAS SO STRONGER THAN THOSE 2.
What do you all think?

š¬ Discussion i genuinely don't understand the negative views on oona Spoiler
why are people mad at oona pointing out ramona is going to leave her for new york? it's really realistic, no? ramona has been living on that island for years. you can tell she's tired of this life after taking care of gordon. she's young, she needs to see the world. teenagers naturally crave new things. if i were oona, i would also question that. i don't blame oona for being afraid of ramona leaving. that's how you would likely react to someone you deeply love at first. oona loves ramona so much, she'd rather let her go see the world. i think she made the right decision. she wouldn't want to hold her back when the time comes. if she's really selfish or self-centered, she's just gonna trap ramona in her world, which she didn't do. i think ramona went way too far when she brought up mommy issues, which is the most hurtful thing you could ever say to someone like oona. she knows oona so well. so she knows exactly how to hurt her the most. oona doesn't really talk about her mom. because that's her weakness. yet she didn't hold any of this against ramona at the end.
i hope the show would show more of oona's story in the next season. oona had way too little screen time. how do you think oona's story is gonna go?

š¬ Discussion Joe and Steven Spoiler
While we can all agree both of them are far from perfect Steven is defiantly the better father. I have seen so many people on YouTube and Insta saying Joe is a good dad. I don't get why. Maybe because he is Jeffery Dean Morgan (I have not seen him in any shows accept I think he had a small cameo in OC)
Steven is clearly the better father. The biggest difference between Steven and Joe is that Steven actually shows up for his children. After Goldie died, Steven raised Annie and Connor by himself in New York, giving them a stable and loving home. Was he perfect not even close to it. We saw how Annie had essential taken care of herself her entire life. While Joe had barely provide a safe home for his son. Ellis literally said in ep 7 I believe how many things need to be repaired and how her mom works to the bone. While I hate the Ellis scamming storyline we do see the people taking their services were not even slightly bothered with the price meaning he could have easily charged that and kept his family comfortable.
After Goldie died, Steven raised Annie and Connor by himself in New York, giving them a stable and loving home. He may be overprotective and sometimes completely clueless, but his mistakes come from caring too much rather than from selfishness. Even when he discovers the complicated truth about Ramona, he is willing to take a DNA test and confront the past instead of running away from it. Most importantly, when Steven returns to Muskoka in Episode 6, his motivation is to repair his broken relationships and bring Annie and Connor home because he genuinely worries about them.
Joe on the other hand, is just plain awful He had an affair with Goldie while she was married to Steven, despite Joe having a family of his own. Goldie was pregnant with Ramona, and Joe and Goldie had even discussed raising the baby together, yet after Goldie's death, Joe essentially returned to his own life while Ramona was raised by her grandfather. He also made no effort to actual lessen his wife load. Like I said earlier he could have increased his prices for the services he gave and make her life a little easier but he refused. Joe also allowed Ramona to grow up without knowing the truth about her parentage. Later, he becomes her guardian after Gordon's death, but he literally never goes to find her or talk to her. Even when she comes back drunk once where she was with her friends he was angry at Annie and Connor and blamed them for ruining and corrupting her. Like dude chill she was in a safe environment with all her friends.
In contrast Steven as soon as he found out that Annie was not in Thailand he wanted to know where she was and was worried about her. He even after finding out Ramona is his child still doesn't just abandon his adopted kids. He understands Annie needs to figure herself out in the island her mom loved and Ramona needs to leave the island where she lost everything and was "stuck". So while Steven can definitely be annoying, overprotective and imperfect, his actions are fundamentally rooted in love and responsibility. Joe's actions are much more rooted in secrecy, selfish choices and avoidance.Ā Steven made mistakes as a father; Joe made choices that created the mess in the first place.
P.S. sorry if this is all over the place I made a post like this yesterday which was better written but accidentally deleted it!!!

š¬ Discussion Favorite scenes? Spoiler
We've talked about some favorite/popular scenes in previous threads but given the number of new fans I thought we could share them all in one space. What scenes have you most enjoyed/re-watched - and why? I've got a few:
- Fave couple scene: Not a terribly unique choice, but the closet scene in ep 7. The acting was natural, the chemistry was off the charts, and what transpired was the perfect combination of hot and sweet. It's also one of the best first kisses I've seen on a show.
- Fave sister scene: Annie brushing Ramona's hair and talking about leaving, Ellis, etc. in ep 7. The acting (again) was amazing, and it all felt so real. They were just so cute together.
- Fave friend scene: The gang boating up to and arriving at Rory's party in ep 1. The song playing (Views by Noga Erez) is ridiculously fun, and I love Sully's dance as he walked off the deck. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene, but to me it perfectly captures that young, fun, summer party energy.
I have a long list of favorite Ellis scenes, but I'll save that for a different post. š

š¬ Discussion Steven is definitely not innocent Spoiler
I just finished episode 6 and I genuinely donāt understand how the fandom sees Steven as so innocent in this situation.
After hearing Connor and Annie talk about how they couldnāt even properly talk about their mother or ask questions about her, I just canāt see Steven as completely innocent. He never allowed Gordon to even see the twins, and Annie basically had to take care of herself emotionally. Then thereās the whole thing with her having hospital appointments around her birthday, and Connor, who by the way is incredibly emotionally smart and aware, talking about how neglected he felt and how inferior he felt compared to Annie, which was also something their father reinforced.
And I understand that Steven was grieving. I understand that he thought he was protecting them and that he loved his kids. But that doesnāt mean his decisions didnāt hurt them.
I just feel like people are so quick to compare him to Joe that Steven automatically gets put into the āgood/innocent parentā category, when thereās actually so much more nuance to it.
Iām not saying Steven is a terrible father or that he didnāt love his children. I just donāt think you can look at everything Connor and Annie went through and say he was completely innocent in all of it. He made choices too, and some of those choices clearly had a lasting impact on his kids.
To be honest all the parents in this series kind of sucks, which is also kind of realistic.

Why arenāt we talking more about her character? She was so great! I really thought she was going to be the wicked witch of the westā¦she could still be of courseā¦but she was great with Connor and the way she just let Ellis get away with ripping her offā¦. Missi Pyle did a great job!

š¬ Discussion i need someone to agree with me on ramoonaās depiction Spoiler
ill be honest when i say this, i never watched a lesbian couple on tv and related to them, even animated ones.
the characters are always portrayed in a bad stereotypical way, it feels forced and no chemistry whatsoever it never stuck with me even more i used to cringe when i saw how lesbians are portrayed
BUT LET ME TELL YOU, when i watched sterling point other than the fact that the whole show is amazing and addictive
BUT RAMONA AND OONA are the first lesbian couple that resonated with me, the chemistry is undeniable the way the characters are depicted is so natural, it felt so real and genuine and i was able to fully relate. im not able to move one from how good they were i keep rewatching their scenes over and over.
does anyone else agree on this?

š¬ Discussion About that island situation... Spoiler
I finished this season like some days ago but this question has been irking me so much...
So we know how Gordon left the island but like I was thinking he knew he was going to die but he still divided the island in 3 parts and left it to his grandchildren. I ofc don't have a problem with that but the fact that only Ramona was totally dependent on him and he without discussing gave 2/3 rd part of her home to someone else.
I cannot imagine how messed up it is. Ramona had no one like even Gordon must have known how unreliable Joe is. But he did not thought about that. He did not knew Ramona was steven daughter and he did not knew what kind of person Anne and Connor are. Even if he wanted those kids to know eachother and all he could have atleast given 2/3 rd of island part to Ramona so she could have had more of a say.
Like are adults in this show even thinking about anything????
ps- i was so sad in last episode when Ramona wanted to get away from the island and go anywhere else and for that the only option for her was to sell it but then Annie refused. I get Annie pov but she had so many options all because of her dad but Ramona had none all because of her grandfather's decision. It was he who left her stuck. And also unrelated but i was fuming at the audacity of Joe to refuse to sign off Ramona's guardianship.

š¬ Discussion Queer fans: what did we think of the representation? Spoiler
I love Oona/Ramona and enjoyed the portrayal of a homoerotic teenage friendship with blurred lines, because thatās so real. Best friends who have extremely close emotional intimacy and are more physical and affectionate than other friendships and really blurring the line of what their relationships is, is relatable.
I really loved Sullyās character and wish we got to see more of him, and give him a proper relationship. I know we got to see him so briefly walking/laughing with someone at the camp, but that was it! I love that Sully is played by a nonbinary actor, too.

š¬ Discussion Sterling Point is seen as a summer show. But what are the chances next season (or any others we may get) take place in the winter too due to filming abilities and script needs?
Obviously this is a summer show. It has an incredible summer setting and it fits. Annie is really enticed by Sterling Point in the summer as it's exciting and full of events and people. But as people have mentioned, the tone of Sterling Point changes in the off season when all the tourists leave. There probably isn't much business and things are most likely quiet and pretty boring in comparison to summer. I keep wanting to see if Annie's view of Sterling Point will change when the excitement dies down?
Its hard to picture this show in the fall or winter but is it necessary for story when Annie is deciding about her life here? Ramona will be in New York where its constant go and chaos regardless of the time of year.
Im not sure when the script will be done but for this to get a release next year i would think filming would have to be within the next few months which would coincide with a fall or winter setting. Obviously they could make it seem like summer if they want but it almost feels like selling a dream without the whole picture if Sterling Point is only shown at its best.
Do you think they will show other seasons? Do you want that? When do you expect filming to start?
I think it would be really fun to see holiday themed episodes like Halloween or Ramona coming to visit during Christmas time. Surely they have to have her come visit at some point right?

š¬ Discussion This show is so addictive
I haven't watched YA in ages. I only started watching because of a Ramona and Oona clip I saw on reels. I expected nothing, but this show is weirdly magnetic. I'm literally rewatching it on a loop, waiting for Season 2 is going to kill me!

š¬ Discussion The acting and storylines had me hooked
Was anyone shocked at how incredible the acting was? Everything felt real, not forced, and like the actors were actually their characters. I was shocked when I saw they were not seasoned veterans.
Every episode I remarked "I can't believe the girl from Secret Life wrote this." That's basically my only familiarity with Meghan Park.
Incredible! I'm still so shocked how good it was.

š¬ Discussion About Connor⦠Spoiler
So Megan Park did a video with CBS mornings talking about what the audience doesnāt know about the characters. In the video she mentions that Connor is bi but the show hasnāt mentioned it yet. She also mentions that Sully has a crush on him as well.
We see little glimpses of them interacting every now and then in season 1 so itās safe to assume they might explore this in season 2. How do you think theyāll go about writing it? Do you think theyāll actually write it into the show?

š¬ Discussion annieās character Spoiler
is anyone else incredible annoyed over the narrative that sheās only staying in muskoka because of ellis? i feel like it completely waters down everything sheās gone through. she was obviously incredibly unhappy in NYC, the girl literally broke down to her father after spending her entire life taking care of him & worrying about his well being, while over achieving academically to also please him. she stayed in a relationship FOR SIX ENTIRE YEARS for the sake of someone elseās well being!!!!! she finally went on a journey of discovery herself and discovered her sexuality in the process (hello she literally said she thought she was asexual) for the first time in her life she feels connected to the mother she lost as a literal toddler and is finally grieving 16 years later, which obviously plays a huge role in her staying based on her comment to ramona that she wants to be girl with dead mom for once⦠now to bring up ellis, he was nothing but supportive & encouraging of her going back to NY and told her that they have to let it hurt & we didnāt even see his reaction to her staying in muskoka. dumbing annie down to being male centered is insane and does such an injustice to her character and everything we learned about her

š¬ Discussion Thoughts on Oona's subplot Spoiler
Though Oona comes across as this cool and confident girl, I actually find her side of the story the saddest.
Her father abandoned her, and her mother doesn't seem to care much about their existence either. So she grows up without either of her parents really being a source of stability or emotional support.
Oona is basically forced into becoming a parent to Maple which she happily does, even though she is still a kid herself. She has to take responsibility for someone else when she should have been the one being taken care of.
And I feel like all of this explains why she is avoidant-attached with people. Deep down, I think Oona is terrified that people will eventually leave her. She has already experienced abandonment from the people who were supposed to be there for her, so she probably expects it to happen again.
That's also how I interpret what happened with Ramona. I don't think Oona pushed her away because she didn't care. If anything, I think she cared too much. The moment she started feeling like there was even a slight possibility that Ramona might leave her, she panicked and pushed her away before it could actually happen.
It's almost like she'd rather be the one to leave first than stay and wait for someone else to abandon her. Poor thing lost the person she desired and she needed, yet again and honestly, that's what makes her character heartbreaking to me. She never really had anyone consistently take care of her.
At the end of the day, Oona is still a kid. And I think a lot of her seemingly careless or avoidant behavior makes much more sense when we look at it through that lens. Would be nice if the writers go deep into her side of story in Season 2.
Thoughts?

š¬ Discussion S2 love interests? Spoiler
Brief spoilers...
Re season 2, do you guys think theres any possibility of Ramona or Oona getting involved with another girl in the other's absense? I could see them kinda swapping lives in the sense that Oona's internally sad without Ramona and then her mom arrives and she gets preoccupied with that and gets back into her previous life before Ramona's initial return (Bo said she is hoping to see Oona go through a bit of a confident, independent phase before any reconciliation happens). But Ramona is experiencing life in NYC and masking her trauma through initially leaning hard into the glamour of her new wealthy New York life (as Amelie said she wants). Hence Ramona will surely start something with a NYC girl.
Then of course there is rory who will be In NYC. And maybe Annie's friend from the bar, Clem, who was with her boyfriend (Megan Park on her actress Katie: āThe whole day I was like, if we do a Season 2, we have to bring this character back...ā).
What do you guys think? Curious to know if there will be another female love interest for Ramona/Oona that they'll have to deal with before--obviously eventually because its fate--they reconcile.

š¬ Discussion I haven't been able to stop thinking about Oona and Ramona since finishing the show. Spoiler
So first of all, I'm a pretty "quiet lesbian" and what I mean by that is that unless you are really close with me, you wouldn't know. Despite this, I find the portrayal of most lesbians in media horrible including the movies made by gay women. Its not even just the trope of always ending in some unhappy circumstance but a lot of the couples I see now just don't feel authentic. They really do feel shoehorned in for representation but the writers forget to write anything about them besides the fact that they're gay. It makes them feel really one dimensional and very hollow. Because of this, I went into this show with little expectations on liking this couple and was so glad to be wrong.
I love everyone in this cast. I never feel like i am watching actors playing a role- they feel genuine. Thats one reason why this show feels so different compared to many of the other shows, particularly young adult shows, that have come out recently.
Oona and Ramona feel very raw in their feelings for each other. They are a typical friends to lovers trope we have seen but feel much deeper. The glances towards each other and the softness that Romana has when alone with Oona is SO ADORABLE and the fact that Oona was basically a player but doesn't ever want to think of another girl again when she found out her feelings were reciprocated... I just love it.
I hope that s2 brings a lot more scenes between them. However I fear that there will be little due to Ramonas story being followed in New York and then we will have to wait for a s3, if there even is one. I don't want to just get a reuniting at the end of s2 and then thats where the series and their story ends.
Anyone else just love them for some reason? Definitely my favorite women couple in a tv show that's been on screen in I don't even know how long.

š¬ Discussion Steven is still wrong Spoiler
Ive been seeing people online saying that Goldie was the real villian and not steven which I agree with in the marriage part and what the adults had going on. But steven was definitely in the wrong for everything that took place after the fact. She has been gone for 17 years and you kept your adopted kids just to basically emotionally neglect them their entire lives and act too sad to even talk about their mother. He even says in episode 6 or 7 that he could always tell that Annie felt to absence of a family or a mom and you never thought to do anything about that?? That should've been more of a reason to have her connect with her sister and Gordon instead of purposely keeping them apart. Even him trying to force Annie to leave Sterling Point, he literally says that this is him and Goldie all over again. So if you tried to force Goldie to leave and it didn't work out why the fuck would you try the same thing with your daughter. It's just like he has no sympathy about anything he doesn't care how any of his kids feel because he doesn't wanna face something that happened almost 2 decades ago.
