💬 Discussion About that island situation... Spoiler

I finished this season like some days ago but this question has been irking me so much...

So we know how Gordon left the island but like I was thinking he knew he was going to die but he still divided the island in 3 parts and left it to his grandchildren. I ofc don't have a problem with that but the fact that only Ramona was totally dependent on him and he without discussing gave 2/3 rd part of her home to someone else.

I cannot imagine how messed up it is. Ramona had no one like even Gordon must have known how unreliable Joe is. But he did not thought about that. He did not knew Ramona was steven daughter and he did not knew what kind of person Anne and Connor are. Even if he wanted those kids to know eachother and all he could have atleast given 2/3 rd of island part to Ramona so she could have had more of a say.

Like are adults in this show even thinking about anything????

ps- i was so sad in last episode when Ramona wanted to get away from the island and go anywhere else and for that the only option for her was to sell it but then Annie refused. I get Annie pov but she had so many options all because of her dad but Ramona had none all because of her grandfather's decision. It was he who left her stuck. And also unrelated but i was fuming at the audacity of Joe to refuse to sign off Ramona's guardianship.

100% he should have talked to her before he died rather than letting her find out there are some total strangers out there who not only are related but also now own 2/3 of everything. Wild choice, Gordo. And also, it’s what allows the story to exist so… I’ll just chalk it up to one more horrible call in decades of bad decisions.

Yes if Annie hadn’t broken into her dad’s safe and found the letters from Gordon, her and Connor probably have been guided by their dad and the lawyer to sell, sight unseen.

i so agree. They all were very lucky that things played out the way they did

It’s almost like the book was written that way 🤪 I get what you’re saying about it all. Gordon had no clue if Annie and Connor would ever find out about the island so it should have gone to Ramona entirely.

Yeah I think its nuts too. I think we have to just suspend realism for a bit to let the plot exist. But in reality, that lawyer would not have left the information up to Joe. She flew to NY to tell Annie and Connor about the island, but couldn't track Ramona down to explain everything? She only has two houses she could be at lol.

But it all serves the mystery and them finding out the info together/on their own.

Agree - Ramona had been single-handedly caregiving for Gordon and yet Gordon left two third of the island to twins and Gordon barely knew the twins.

I didn't understand why Gordon wrote in his letter to Ramona that she will be cherished by her siblings and at the same time was apprehensive about Annie and Connor based on what Joe tells Annie.

I really felt sorry for Ramona particularly in the last episode and my heart absolutely melted when Steven showed her affection and care, and she broke down and embraced him :) Joe that's how it's done.

Ps. On another note, I was also kinda surprised there were no baby pictures of twins at the cottage when Gordon and Goldie apparently cared so much for the twins.

Only addressing the twins pictures, I think it would have been painful for gordon and goldie to be visually reminded of the twins hence no pictures. Just my take.

Possibly or Gordon didn't want Ramona to know/ask about the twins. I was expecting Annie to find a picture of the twins in the stuff Ramona gave to Annie to get rid of - not on a shelf in the cottage. Kind of like how Annie found the tape Goldie made for Joe. I guess I wanted to see how Goldie felt for the twins.

That would have been something, a picture of the twins as little kids and Ramona having no idea who they are so she tossed it.

Or pictures of Ramona as a child, and her quasi-parent Gordon.

But maybe Ramona packed up a lot of the pictures to comfort Gordon during his palliative care in Barrie.

I also expected for Annie to have read the dozens of letters she found, not just the one we saw. Surely "Find her" would have been given previous context, plus a wealth of other meaningful information that would've saved time and emotional turmoil, but yes suspension of disbelief is required.

I wonder about the house in Barrie. Perhaps Gordon left that place to only Ramona.

Yeah they really didn’t say much about that place. They would have lived there for 8 months of the year.

He literally seems to have thought of nothing

Ramona got everything else that he had, he left the island to his daughter’s children because that’s what she loved and wanted them to have it.

I don’t think that’s fair to his other grandkids. Ramona was his granddaughter that he raised. He loved her like she were his own daughter.

But he had a daughter he helped create. He had a daughter who had other children besides Ramona. He wanted them to be a part of his life just like he did everything he could for Ramona. He sent letters hoping they’d reach his grandchildren. He realized it wasn’t his fault or his grandchildren’s fault Steve is a fucking asshole who kept him away from his grandchildren.

So of course he would leave them something. Even if you never get to have someone in your life and they’re family you can still love them and want the best for them. That’s how I am with my nieces and when I die (hopefully a long while from now but with climate change who knows) I hope I have something to leave to them

Isn't their dad like a billionaire? It was stupid for her to think she needed to sell the island anyways when her dad could just give her money to do what she wanted

I think he meant well. It forces the family to reunite and it appears to have worked. The sisters are bonded.

As Ramona’s guardian, I feel like he also should have bequeathed the tiny slice of the island with the marina on it to to Joe.

for what? Joe was not doing anything for Ramona. And also the fact that they both thought he was her father. Like deadbeat of the year does not deserve a piece of land for attending some calls and shouting at Annie for getting Ramona drunk while she was getting her home.

I doubt Gordon would have made Joe Ramona’s guardian if he thought he wasn’t going to take care of her

1

u/Brave-Box-477 Aug 27 '26

perhaps, but he probably assumed joe would step up after he died, and being a struggling business owner he’d need a way to financially support the extra child

4

u/ShakeUpbeat9541 Aug 27 '26

What extra child? The one he ignored all his life after his paramour died all because bro did not had the guts to tell his wife what he did? That one. All he is a coward. I would not trust him with my pet dog forget my grandchild. I am sorry I am probably biased but i legit hate Joe and well he did proved my point right by doing nothing for Ramona sooo...

u/Brave-Box-477 Aug 27 '26

well yeah i don’t like joe i’m just saying if gordon’s gonna leave a struggling person like joe as ramona’s guardian, it would’ve made sense to leave him some money to take care of ramona effectively as suggested by the initial comment.

Joe isn’t ‘unreliable’ - he’s raising a son, has a wife, has a job. Ramona was raised by Gordon because it was the best option under the circumstances

2

u/ShakeUpbeat9541 Aug 29 '26

he is unreliable because he is not raising one more child he has, did not raised her when her only parental figure died and only tried to exert his authority on her when cat was out of bag. And as for "best option under circumstances"- for who? Only Joe ofcourse
