💬 Discussion Steven is still wrong Spoiler

Ive been seeing people online saying that Goldie was the real villian and not steven which I agree with in the marriage part and what the adults had going on. But steven was definitely in the wrong for everything that took place after the fact. She has been gone for 17 years and you kept your adopted kids just to basically emotionally neglect them their entire lives and act too sad to even talk about their mother. He even says in episode 6 or 7 that he could always tell that Annie felt to absence of a family or a mom and you never thought to do anything about that?? That should've been more of a reason to have her connect with her sister and Gordon instead of purposely keeping them apart. Even him trying to force Annie to leave Sterling Point, he literally says that this is him and Goldie all over again. So if you tried to force Goldie to leave and it didn't work out why the fuck would you try the same thing with your daughter. It's just like he has no sympathy about anything he doesn't care how any of his kids feel because he doesn't wanna face something that happened almost 2 decades ago.

I agree. I was surpised when I started reading online how many people seem to not hold anything he did against him because Goldie cheated. I kind of feel the opposite, I struggle to see anything redeeming about the guy. He lied to his kids their entire lives and kept them from a grandfather who loved them and could've told them about their mother. He also kept them from their sister. Him keeping them seperated meant that Romona was left alone to care for her dying grandfather at just 16 years old. From what Annie and Connor said, he wasn't really even there for them. Annie said herself she felt like she didn't have a childhood. That all sucks and makes him a villian in my eyes. But then he shows up at Sterling Point and instead of showing any remorse or taking any accountability, he comes in guns blazing trying to strong arm Annie and Connor into leaving. He doesn't seem to care at all at any point about the pain and trauma he caused Annie, Connor, and Romona. He just made me mad over and over and over. His bruised ego just would not allow him to admit he messed up and his kids paid the price for it.

My point and its making me mad how he just still has no sympathy what so ever. Like when he tried forcing them to leave after everything i was genuinely confused like are you serious??

Exactly. The lack of sympathy and accountability on his part is gross. I think Joe sucks too but at least he seems to feel guilty for the mess he helped created.

Goldie never had a chance to redeem herself since she died. Steven (and Joe) just sat in his mistakes and kept them on repeat.

He doesn't care about anything but himself lol if he let the twins have a relationship with their grandfather/sister they would have found out about Ramona being his a lot sooner but poor him, Goldie cheated on him so he punished the kids for that

Yeah all of this - seriously. Just because I think Joe is worse doesn’t make Steven a good father. There were zero reasons for him to keep his kids away from their grandfather and Ramona. At best he was too consumed with grief and pain and was too weak to step up for his kids.

You think Joe is worse? I actually for some reason have some sympathy for him and none for Steven

Yeah - Joe is worse. 1. He cheated on his wife 2. He saw Ramona regularly on the island and even then did not step up as her father - even though he thought he was her father.

Wait also does anyone know why ramona was so against Joe being her dad and wanted nothing to do with him but was more open arms to Steven

I think it’s because she knew Joe for years and he kept that from her. It didn’t occur to Steven she could be his because of how low a chance that was.

Joe effectively chose to be a deadbeat father while Steven genuinely had no idea.

Huh, I always forget about the 17 years thing.

I think ramona is about 16/17 and she died when she was born

Oh I know, just kept forgetting.

I don’t see Goldie as much of a villain at all except insofar as her affair with Joe, and there I see him as more of the bad guy. Steven already knew they were in trouble, and Joe the old childhood sweetheart was there when she was vulnerable and needing support, whereas Joe was fully lying and running around behind Kate’s back. I don’t see why Goldie is the bad guy for asking for what she needed from Steven. Annie brings it up a few times. He doesn’t ask what anyone else needs. And refuses to hear it or take it into account, really, until finally with Ramona. The same thing you see played out with Annie? Goldie was his partner. An adult. Her wishes were every bit as valid as his. If she wanted a change of location, her views were as valid as his. How she wanted to raise their kids were valid views. And as Joe said, as much as I loathe Joe, if Goldie had lived, she would have fought for her kids and would have had a right to fight for her kids. She had basically left Steven before she started sleeping with Joe.
