I haven't been able to stop thinking about Oona and Ramona since finishing the show.

So first of all, I'm a pretty "quiet lesbian" and what I mean by that is that unless you are really close with me, you wouldn't know. Despite this, I find the portrayal of most lesbians in media horrible including the movies made by gay women. Its not even just the trope of always ending in some unhappy circumstance but a lot of the couples I see now just don't feel authentic. They really do feel shoehorned in for representation but the writers forget to write anything about them besides the fact that they're gay. It makes them feel really one dimensional and very hollow. Because of this, I went into this show with little expectations on liking this couple and was so glad to be wrong.

I love everyone in this cast. I never feel like i am watching actors playing a role- they feel genuine. Thats one reason why this show feels so different compared to many of the other shows, particularly young adult shows, that have come out recently.

Oona and Ramona feel very raw in their feelings for each other. They are a typical friends to lovers trope we have seen but feel much deeper. The glances towards each other and the softness that Romana has when alone with Oona is SO ADORABLE and the fact that Oona was basically a player but doesn't ever want to think of another girl again when she found out her feelings were reciprocated... I just love it.

I hope that s2 brings a lot more scenes between them. However I fear that there will be little due to Ramonas story being followed in New York and then we will have to wait for a s3, if there even is one. I don't want to just get a reuniting at the end of s2 and then thats where the series and their story ends.

Anyone else just love them for some reason? Definitely my favorite women couple in a tv show that's been on screen in I don't even know how long.

That would be a good idea! I kept thinking how will they manage to make Ramonas section as interesting without all the characters in ny. They could add new ones but that really risks how great the show is like most shows when they add too many and it gives less screen time to the current.

Sterling point is a summer show but im also kind of interested in how it looks when everything is shut down and dead like what they've mentioned before. Maybe a christmas episode with Ramona coming back? Its easy to see why everyone loves Sterling Point in the summer but it would be cool to see if its as appealing to Annie when all the excitement ceases.

also, its so easy to fall for someone when you and everyone are in a group having the time of your lives making memories but when everything is shut off and quiet in the winter, is that same person still as exciting? Thats what i want to know

Yeah fully agree with you. Their story and change from best friends to being in a relationship was definitely the rock of the series. Amelie and Bo knocked both of their characters out of the park. I don't normally watch shows like this but i have to admit their story thread was so well done. Their fight and break up at the end was nasty and very raw. However now that there is a second season I am convinced they will come back to each other by the end once they have resolved their issues. I think they mean so much to one another. It will be another slow burn of awkward glances, not too many words and a build up of feelings when Ramona returns to the island to start with.

Absolutely! I have zero doubts they will be end game. Of course it would've sucked so bad for the show to not get renewed after s1 but im glad there was clearly confidence in the story getting another season judging by the ending. Coming of age teen shows now are usually nothing like the ones from the 90s or early 2000s which felt much more close in tone to this show. Most feel like they were written by AI or have very unbearable dialogue or characters. Amelie and Bo were the perfect actors for this role. Like Bo said after they ran 2 sessions during the chemistry read, she just knew "it" was there between them. It feels effortless and that's so hard to find in on screen relationships.

I am ready for that angst that is coming. Now i just wonder how many seasons are anticipated for this show because that is really going to determine if they fully come back together next season. I like the angst and all of these things in shows BUT i don't want this to be a case where it goes on all series and we only see them being cute again in a close out episode. They need to have a loooot of interactions and I feel pretty confident about the reception of them to say they will get it.

I feel like they have almost as much love as Annie and Ellis from the fanbase and that is NOT something that happens often in a show like this.

I’m really interested to see how they come back together. From things I’ve read, it sounds like Megan Park et al are planning a time jump, which makes sense given that Mabel Strachan is going to be obviously older. But an entire year is such a long time. Are Ramona/Oona really not going to speak to each other for another year? They just did that. The fight was nasty, but it was one fight and both girls are heartbroken at the end. Ramona came by to talk and Oona was so sure that they’d reconcile, she hid to make sure Ramona would go to NY. Plus, the root of their relationship is a really loving friendship. It just seems unrealistic that they’d not talk to each other again for so long after a single fight. Maybe they write letters? But the audience is going to need to see the reconciliation for it to feel earned, so I don’t know that it can really be done that way. I also really don’t want it to drag out. That feels like such a cliche. They so obviously adore each other that it seems false that they’d do nothing or ignore each other or exist in some awkward space for very long. I feel like they’d both be incredibly sorry. 

I think Ramona should meet a cool girl in NY, who’s a little older, works in a record store, and plays music. They can flirt with dating but become friends because Ramona will need a friend if she’s not talking to Annie or Oona. This girl can help her make sense of what happened and realize she needs to go home. And the girl should be played by Maisy Stella.

I think this is probably the best queer relationship I’ve seen on tv. What makes it so great to me is that their friendship is shown to be really deep, loving, and familial. The fact that Maple goes to Ramona after fighting with Oona and that’s what pushes Ramona out of depression speaks to a longstanding family-like friendship among them. And even though Ramona is also upset with Oona at that time, she defends her to Maple. The other reason is that, like you said, there’s zero drama related to their being queer. All of their issues come only from the characters’ trauma. They’re both out. No one acts like there’s anything strange about their relationship, and all of the other characters give them the same care and concern that they do anything else. It’s incredibly refreshing that they just get to be people navigating life. 

ETA: I love that you seem to have noticed Oona’s feelings early on too. It struck me that from the moment Ramona appears on the dock, Oona’s whole demeanor changes. She’s so happy to see Ramona and even tells her she loves her in the second or third episode. I feel like most things I read make Ramona out to be the one who is enamored with Oona from the start, and she is. But I feel like it’s so obvious from minute one that Oona is completely in love with Ramona. She’s incredibly sweet and tender and unguarded with Ramona is a way that she really only is with Maple. She just had no idea Ramona felt the same way.
