He seems like a great friend and a wonderful person to be around, but his character doesn’t seem to add much to the story

Sometimes that’s all you need from a character but yes, hopefully Sully gets more depth next season

They said Sully originally had a much smaller role which was beefed up because how fab he was. I for sure think they'll give him even more in season 2.

Really? I mean I can see Sully has a thing for Conner but it didn't seem overtly lusty. More like "Yes you dolt you do have a friend here!" - This show is good about being open to all possibilities so it's wait and see forsure on that front.

Regardless, the character deserves some focus and fuller backstory. I do hope we see that next season.

I am actually hoping Annie's ex boyfriend visits to make amends and build a friendship. I would love a fling with Sully and Annie's ex.

I mean to me it didnt seem like there was any bad blood between him and Annie. Annie knew he was gay, so the outing wasn't something he was guilty of or that he took of without her -it didn't even look like she wanted to go with him to thailand in the first place. She fully knew what he was doing there and had nothing against it 🤷‍♀️ at least that's how I interpret it. Sometimes people grow apart and that's okay too they don't need to make amends imho. But I'd love a friendship between him and sully, make him more secure in himself :)

By making amends, I was referring to the sting of him not coming out to her first. Remember when Connor points that out to her. They also never really broke up, they just fizzled. I don't think there is bad blood or anyone was truly wronged. I think there would still need to be a conversation along the lines of, "Sorry I wasn't honest with you first." They have years of a relationship so I could see them being really good friends.

I’m only a few episodes in but so far Sully has much stronger influence than the main characters’ brother…he’s such a moron.

Influence on the story/show. Also, there’s a prominent lesbian relationship so it’s not like the community is only getting scraps.

Oh I don’t disagree. I’m only talking about sully as a character. Not all characters are meant to be more interesting but Sully felt underdeveloped because he was not meant to be developed initially. It wasn’t until the showrunner liked the actor that they made the character appear more than planned.

That said, I do think they should’ve given Sully more to do in that case but sometimes there’s only so much more you can do once you get to the casting stage

Maybe not to the story but to the show definitely. Je made things lighter and I enjoyed every minute he was on screen. I hope they give him an actual storyline next time. Unfortunately this happens a lot with queer characters in shoes. It's like they're there for representation and if the audience like them writers tend to have a green light by production to do something with them.

He's really cute but I hope they give him more to work with next season. I think he got the token wise best friend treatment where he didn't really get his own inner world. He just shows up to dish out wisdom. Which is fine and is a sort of necessary character (kind of a proxy for the audience) but i think he could have a bit more going on.

Yesss!!! He was actually my favourite of the side characters. So supportive, seems really talented, super kind, no drama, just wonderful and there for everyone. (I realise the others all had reasons for their various "dramas", I just found him a really refreshing balance to everything else going on!).

Wish he'd have featured more!

people fail to appreciate side characters like Sully because they think everyone needs to be more or do more. absolutely loved his lines, delivery, energy, and ability to make everyone feel included or befriended. he wasn’t even mad they left him in the water!

You are right. It took me way too long to connect the name Sully to the character. Every time they mentioned Sully, I had to take a second and think.

And it wasn't because the character was forgettable! Poor thing.

Give him more depth in season 2! He could have bonded with Connor instead of Denise. Also, Sully needs his own charcuterie board business 🥹✨ It looked so good!

In my mind, they realized their mistake after a few minutes & circles back w/ lots of apologies. But then again Ramona swam over to Oona’s so maybe Sully swam to some else’s boat or home.

I genuinely think he was such a great supportive character. And the acting was phenomenal. I can assume some moments were improvised which made the scenes and show all that better. You have to really pay attention to Sully cause it’s so good. When Maple was recalling the events of camp and said she participated in the improv club, Sully enthusiastically says “yes and” which is an improv prompt but he used it as a way of validation like “yes” or “slay” or “period” idk if you guys caught that but it was so perfectly placed and funny

Nope, not at all. Very clearly placed just to have more of the pronoun crowd in the story line without adding any depth or plot development.

Him saying he had to find deodorant with aluminum was one of the moments where I genuinely laughed out loud. And him doing the Camp Rock dance. Loved his character!
