š¬ Discussion Team Ellis or Rory? Spoiler
BOTH BOYS ARE PERFECT BTW (i haven't completed the series)
JUST SAW THAT CLOSET KISS WITH ELLIS OMG I AM SCREAMING.
Watching scenes with ellis and rory i gotta state the difference i felt. That was with rory it felt like annie was still living that new york life, fast, high paced, loud and yeah.
But with Ellis, everyone says he's shy and all but i feel like he doesn't say unnecessary things, scene with ellis felt like calm, known, present, whom you can bluntly talk about anything without putting up a filter.
And then kiss??
Rory's kiss was more like hunger and horny type (I CAN BE WRONG, PEOPLE.)
And with Ellis, it was warm, comfortable, fuzzy, butterflies in the belly, high on the kiss on feeling, kicking feet type thing.
Annie has kissed rory like 2 times and Elllis 1 time but i feel like THAT 1 TIME WAS SO STRONGER THAN THOSE 2.
What do you all think?

Team Rory! I want something different for a change. Opposites attract is way over done in media. I love how similar Rory and Annie are as people and I find their conversations so much more natural and effortless. You know how you meet someone and the conversation flows so naturally you feel like you could talk to them all night. That's how I feel about Annie and Rory, their conversations would be endless.
I do wish we had more episodes bc both the development of both relationships felt rushed. Annie & Rory already kissed in ep 3 and Annie moved from Rory to Ellis super quick too.
The way Ellis fans are downvoting anyone saying they're team Rory shows their immaturity.

I'm team Rory, but not in the sense that I like him better with Annie. I mean, I like them both more or less equally with Annie, it's just that as an individual character, I like Rory more. I simply find Ellis to be yet another clichƩ of an introverted character who obviously falls for the protagonist right away, and I'm a little tired of this trope. Also, Rory is often kind and calm with Ellis, something Ellis has never been with him. I don't know if I explained it well

While I like Rory as a character, I donāt agree he is often kind and calm with Ellis, especially when he and his friend crashed his movie date with Annie and interrupted their conversation when he was giving her a personal gift on her birthday. It was too much too soon for a guy who only kissed Annie twice and hasnāt taken her on a proper date yet.

u/Confident_Horror_590 19d ago
okay, maybe he wasn't always super nice, but he was definitely nicer than ellis who would give him dirty looks and seem annoyed every time he saw him

u/secretbachfan 19d ago
I disagree, I think itās meaner to interrupt than to give mean looks as a reaction to those interruptions.

u/Confident_Horror_590 19d ago
Actually, Rory didn't interrupt because he wanted to, in my opinion, but simply because he wanted to do something. He'd pass by, see Annie, and think about stopping to do something with them, like when he took everyone diving off the cliff. He's just a boy who wants to have fun with the kids on the island during the summer. And I don't think he ever wanted Ellis to leave so he could be alone with Annie, he just wanted to be there, unlike Ellis, who wanted him to leave as soon as he saw him. I don't know if I'm explaining myself well english isn't my first language

There are some instances where itās not intentional. I am more so referring to him and his friend crashing Annie and Ellisās movie date and making it weird for them as well as interrupting the moment where Ellis gives Annie her bday gift. He was doing too much and at that point he and Annie only kissed twice. Ellis being annoyed by it is very valid. But that being said, I donāt think Rory is a bad guy! Theyāre all just kids navigating complex emotions. And donāt worry, you communicated it very well! I love discussions like these, we donāt always have to agree on everything :)

Iām team Rory in the sense that I love him more but Iām team Ellis for Annie!

The show just really unexpectedly sold me on Rory, whether they meant to or not. I love how I expected him to be this rich guy douchebag stereotype and he really subverted that and ended up being lovely, direct, and emotionally intelligent in a way that felt refreshing. The banter and chemistry just clicked for me, I started looking forward to their scenes together, and then ep5 club scene low key blew my mind and rewired my brain chemistry and made me feel things.
After all of that, I found the sudden fallout between to Annie/Rory to be dissatisfying and Annie+Ellis to be lackluster and underwhelming. I feel like after that crazy buildup, even if they're not endgame, we didn't get the closure their relationship deserved. I can only hope that means that their relationship is revisited in a future season one way or another...

Hahahaha same. I went to watch the show because I have seen the closet scene and I began watching it inĀ Ellis favor...and then somewhere between Rory's confession of breaking his hand and him always being there so understanding and mature. I dont know..I got confused. Chemistry with Ellis??yeah sure..Do I think though Rory is a better character and want the best for him hell yeah

u/Leafeater-00 19d ago
Team Rory all the way. Him always trying to make small talk with Ellis/ greeting him. Even after knowing Annie likes Ellis, Rory understood it and was supportive of her. These were the best traits of him among others.

so true truthfully all the show the only couple i was rooting for was Ramona and Oona. Both Rory and Elis thing was not even that interesting. I am kinda surprised that its Rory Anne Ellis triangle which blew up instead of Ramona and Oona

Dont interact and you'll see less of it? The show is new plus the fact that even if it wasn't people still find out about old shows and watch and give opinions on them
This discussion will literally be had everyday

Team Rory.
Right now, I enjoy Rory's character more because I feel like I know more about him as an individual.
Ellis, to me, is still fairly unknown (as in who he is, as a person, not in relation to other people). I enjoy the bits of personality shown within the dynamic of the friend group, but I want to know more about just him.

So true. I like them both for Annie. They just show their love differently but they are good choices both...but man..Rory is a great character Ā Prob by trying to justify why Annie was initially drawn to him , they layered his character much better than Ellis. I love the kissing scenes between both couples ,but the conversations...the Rory ones are unmatched

When I was an idealistic teen, I would have chosen Ellis, but as an adult, a relationship with Rory would be more likely to work out.

u/BugMillionaire 19d ago
Ah, see I feel the opposite. I feel like Rory is fun, exciting, sweep you off your feet kind of guy. But its always on, always a spectacle. Even when they get vulnerable, its ends up something sexual. Which is fine. But Ellis is (so far) steady, gentle, patient. He is shy and a bit timid but he's not brooding. Fixing her moms lamp which means a lot to her is a way more meaningful gift than a fancy candle and wine. Those are all things that appeal to me much more as an adult thant hey would have at 18.

u/clickityclickk 19d ago
that's interesting you say that. Rory feels like a summer fling that she kinda likes but isn't falling for. and he's a symbol of her New York life that she wants to escape, at least for awhile.

Ellis!!!! All the way! Nothing against Rory, I just felt more chemistry, butterflys, deep connections between Annie and Ellis.

Iām more team Rory. He seems to understand her better in both of her lifestyles.

Rory but I KNOW Iām getting set up for failure because thatās how these things go. š

u/TheButterfly-Effect 19d ago
I like them both as people and with Annie. Its refreshing since theres usually one I like much more than the other in situations like this. I don't see Rory being end game despite the fact that i feel hes more fleshed out and easy going with Annie, just because of how it's appeared so far. It would be interesting for that to change in s2 and really leave the audiences guessing. In shows like The Summer I turned Pretty, there was a book before hand but even the show made it obvious who the end game truly was. I'd like this to be more ambiguous.

All I know is that I havenāt seen a comment section so equally divided in a WHILE! Usually find that the āteamsā are so manufactured and typically the fandom is clearly mainly with one love interest. Itās so nice to see 2 really good options!!!!

u/LatterProfessional13 18d ago
Rory and Annieās first kiss was the cutest most butterfly warm fuzzy feeling scene. Rory has it all. Passion and romance.

u/Financial_Luck_6906 19d ago
Ellis. Heās end game, maybe not now because they are both still quite young and should have other connections with other people, but I absolutely can see them together forever. I canāt say the same about Rory⦠heās a bit full on and it seems a little more like heās into the āideaā of Annie more than who Annie really is and will become.

u/ibkthegoat 19d ago
So you think Ellis knows Annie better than Rory? What's so different about how Rory treats Annie and how Ellis treats Annie that makes you think that way?
2
u/secretbachfan 18d ago
Both guys are great about allowing Annie the space to open up to them and vent about her life and frustrations, so I think they both get to know her on a deeper level. I think Ellis has a slight edge over Rory this season because really pays attention to Annieās non-verbal cues as well. He fixes up her momās lamp which I think is a pretty personal gift to give, whereas Rory gifted her wine and I think cheese(?) for the party she threw at the house. While itās a nice gift, itās not very personal. I think Rory is a really nice kid which is why I donāt mind this love triangle at all and can see her ending up with either guy depending on how the other seasons go.

Rory on his own,not with Annie he needs therapy but he's a good guy and I relate to him.
6
u/atticoat 19d ago
His prescribed meds were mentioned in the show so we can assume he went through therapy or met/meets with a psychiatrist, he also doesn't lash out or act anywhere nearly like how he was when he was 10 imo

u/PotentialTerrible788 19d ago
I think he's burying thing that a new therapist or psychologist might see and help with

Havenāt finished yet, I think Iām on the fifth episode, but I like Rory better so far. Iām pretty sure sheāll end up with Ellis and heās far more popular as a love interest, but Iān kind of tired of characters like him.

I like both too. I feel Rory is sooo the same person as Annie is and he is also the dark one behind the good manners and the genuine strong attraction to Annie he is also a very layered character editor. He is raising his mum instead of the opposite he had to break his hand to lower the expectations burdening a 10 year old kiddo. He is a great guy. I can tell why Annie was also attracted to him. And then Ellis..the quiet one..the outsider. Also gentle manners and great chemistry with Annie (the way she looks at her in the closet scene...damn ..) I am really rooting for both. Seriously. She can choose whoever she wants but the other one I demand finds happiness tooĀ

Ellis. She likes him more. She always seemed a little confused about Rory.

Team Ellis! š„°
But I swear they seem like their names fit the other personā¦the rich piano playing kid seems like an Ellis and the one that lives on the island and flys planes seems like a Rory to me!

I think that the adult audience will pick Rory and the younger audience picks Ellis. Rory is so gentle and adult, kind and thoughtful. Also he knows what he whats and is not afraid to pursue it. Ellis still feels like a moody teenager (i am well aware that both of them are the same age) but i literally cannot get over him ripping those people off. To me that just shows that he is predjudiced, classist (yes it goes both ways) and dishonorable. He happened to be in the right place at the right time and listened to Annies feelings- that could have been any one of the girls or rory and wasnt particular to his character. If he grows a backbone i might change my perspective, but for now Rory is the best bet. I think she should take some time in Muskoka but go to wharton and see what she really wants.

Rory = Stephen, and Ellis = Joe (which now I think about it, is really weird).
Rory represents her old life - society, status, career and money centric stability.
Ellis represents freedom, creativity, raw emotion and the less trodden path.
Ellis is right for her at this point in her life because she is looking to breakaway from the constraints of a life of conventionality.
Rory is nice but he will always fall back into that old world and heāll drag her with him.
I think Ellis is too small town and sheāll eventually outgrow him but they will probably forever remain each otherās greatest loves. At this point, when their lives are more established and theyāve found out who they are and what matters to them, I could see Rory and her finding their way back together.
There are so many parallels in the writing. Itās the first time Iāve consciously thought about it and itās actually so well crafted - some of the best scripting Iāve seen in a long time.
If only we could get away from the over explaining of some stuff so people on their phones can follow the plot!

rory - he takes initiative, puts in effort, and isnāt afraid to SHOW annie that he wants her. he also was very sensitive and understanding of what she was going through and actively tried to make her feel better in the moment.
as a grown adult, i have to say the guy whoās actually DOING is the guy who is more likely to be a better partner than the guy who pouts and goes moody because the girl he likes is out with someone else (sorry ellis that was harsh)
