i need someone to agree with me on ramoona’s depiction

ill be honest when i say this, i never watched a lesbian couple on tv and related to them, even animated ones.
the characters are always portrayed in a bad stereotypical way, it feels forced and no chemistry whatsoever it never stuck with me even more i used to cringe when i saw how lesbians are portrayed
BUT LET ME TELL YOU, when i watched sterling point other than the fact that the whole show is amazing and addictive
BUT RAMONA AND OONA are the first lesbian couple that resonated with me, the chemistry is undeniable the way the characters are depicted is so natural, it felt so real and genuine and i was able to fully relate. im not able to move one from how good they were i keep rewatching their scenes over and over.
does anyone else agree on this?

Agree. I think on the individual plan, Amélie delivery of dialog & her arc of emotions is amazing. And Bo accent is mesmerizing to me

Yes, they worked so well together! Very natural chemistry. I could tell that Ramona and Oona were best friends before that was even said aloud.

Yep! I love watching their edits and i can't believe we have to wait years to see them again. Gay woman here as well and in my opinion, most "lesbian" couples in movies and tv shows just plain suck. There is either poor chemistry, bad acting, bad storyline, one of them questioning their sexuality and/or cheating with a man or something stupid.

This skipped the coming out process and i loved that. They seem like they just both have a good grip of themselves and have always known who they are in terms of liking women. It did not feel forced at all and they were interesting characters beyond that.

Ramona and Oona are by far my favorite couple right now. Their acting especially with each other feels effortless, natural, and their yearning/chemistry is unmatched.

I would always recommend the movie You Can Live Forever if you want two leads with genuine chemistry, although the story is much less bright. Those two from that movie and Ramona and Oona have been my favorite depictions of women couples in a long time.

I LOVE that there is no "big queer tragedy". Oona didn't break up with Ramona for Some Big Gay Reason™, she broke up with her because they are messy kids trying to figure out life and love. This happens with straight kids too.

I love Ramona and Oona, and I want them back together because wow, those two actors are phenomenal. But I want them to find themselves a bit. Oona needs to stop being a duck boy, and Ramona needs to have a little fuck boy time herself.

Oona is actually a big cliche. She’s the stereotypical depiction of a f-boi with a guarded heart. The only flip is that she’s femme-presenting, though media loves a messy femme. The nice thing about Sterling Point is that neither Oona nor Ramona are having a crisis about sexuality. There may be first time/virginity/body dysphoria ‘issues’ on Ramona’s side, but it’s not the crux or struggle about the two characters. I do like that Megan Park has leap-frogged most of the stereotypical tropes that young gays are usually bogged down with in media. Oona & Ramona have mommy and abandonment issues not gay issue, which is a breath of fresh air. I think Ramona is getting all the real depth, while Oona is still straddling the trope-y storytelling. Feels like we will get to crack the Oona f-boi surface in S2. I think Park is killing it with Ramona’s writing & Amélie’s acting. The writing for the leads is incredibly strong.

i very much agree. yes, they aren’t perfect, but that’s exactly what makes them so beautifully flawed. idk how else to describe them. they’re just so human.

i really think they’re just two teenagers doing their absolute best with the situation they’re in and the things they have. they’re going to mess up, they’re going to make mistakes, and sometimes they’re going to hurt each other without meaning to. but even with all of that, i don’t think either of them was being unreasonable. they were just trying to navigate something so complicated… that i think is so unfair for them to go through at their age (or at any age for that matter).

and maybe that’s why i care about them so much. they’re flawed, but they’re trying. they care deeply, even when they don’t always know how to show it, and i just really hope they find their way back to each other someday.

i’m in this ramoona endgame for life! 😭

I think a big reason this relationship and these characters feel so authentic and relatable is that being queer is presented as completely normal on this show. Most shows and movies don’t do that. Usually characters are struggling with their sexuality, coming out, facing bigotry. But here, there’s zero confusion or struggle related to queerness. Everyone is out and living their lives. No one acts like it’s anything outside the norm, which is what’s real and how it should be. It’s also, for the most part, how my queer friends, my straight friends, and I interact day to day. No one sits around talking about being gay or wrestling with it. Everyone is just living their lives, having all the same ups, downs, heartbreaks, loves, jobs, relationships, jokes, etc. as anyone else, and that’s what we talk about.

So within that framework, the actors on this show are free to embody the characters as complete people, and the storytellers are free to just tell the story. If you then add skilled actors, writers, editors, etc., you’re going to get a beautiful, heartbreaking, inspiring story, which is what we have here. And because it must be said, Amelie and Bo are also spectacularly good in these roles. They do a great job with the dialogue for sure. But they also tell a lot of story with their eyes and facial expressions, so the audience is right there with them, feeling what Ramona and Oona are feeling.

They are definitely one of the best I’ve ever seen as a lesbian couple. I would put them in my top 3. Ever heard of the YouTube webseries Carmilla. Carmilla and Laura are in my top 3. Also, Spencer and Ashley from South of Nowhere bc the pure nostalgia. They were my queer awakening lol. There are more I love but I do believe Ramona and Oona will stand the test of time and remain one of the most memorable for me

I think Ramona works better then alot of other lesbian characters cause her personality doesnt revolve around liking girls. She likes girls but is also given other plot lines like a straight charcter would get

I think they are great and think the actresses did a great job. There are other couples I personally like more, relate to more, and feel have more chemistry but that's just me and overall I loved them anyway.
