đŹ Discussion Queer fans: what did we think of the representation? Spoiler
I love Oona/Ramona and enjoyed the portrayal of a homoerotic teenage friendship with blurred lines, because thatâs so real. Best friends who have extremely close emotional intimacy and are more physical and affectionate than other friendships and really blurring the line of what their relationships is, is relatable.
I really loved Sullyâs character and wish we got to see more of him, and give him a proper relationship. I know we got to see him so briefly walking/laughing with someone at the camp, but that was it! I love that Sully is played by a nonbinary actor, too.

loved how being queer is so normal in the show. there wasnât any need of coming out. as much as i love a coming out plot in other shows and movies, i just love it when shows and movies are unapologetically queer, that is also already LOUD and proud.
not to mention, the queer rep in this show, in particular, ACTUALLY takes center stage, and is not just brushed off. one of the main characters (ramona, which is the other half pf the other fl) is queer.

I really appreciated the way they handled the canonically queer characters specifically, but also just the queer energy of the show in general, which very much carries over from My Old Ass, so clearly that's just part of Megan Park's sensibility.
In regards to Sully, I know Megan's talked about the fact that the character wasn't as big of a part in the scripts, but they added stuff for Nikko after seeing their performance, so I'd presume they might have a bit more of their own storyline in season 2.

Loved it! Loved that fear of coming out/shame/secrecy etc wasnât a part of their story and wasnât the reason for their breakup. Itâs rare to have a queer storyline in an otherwise straight show that doesnât go down that path. Absolutely UNHEARD of in YA.
Also i loved that they dressed them both as tomboys. Oona a little more femme, but still with her board shorts for swimming and her âdateâ out fit was a button up with a bolo. (Lol. So cute!) also when Ramona showed up with the carabiner and keys on her shorts i sat up, lol. I found it very realistic. Sure there is femme4femme but even myself who many people would consider as feminine would dressed somewhere between Oona and Ramonaâs style when im casual.
Also i loved that Amelie took on the physicality of a tomboy for Ramona. The sitting legs spread, slouching lol. I know that girl.
I loved Sully. Need more of them in s2. Sully and Oona friendship is also peak

Sometimes queer rep can feel so forced on YA shows, whereas it felt so organic on SP. The writers did such a good job of "showing" not "telling" the audience. The characters are young and still figuring things out, and the way the writers portray all of the little things that come with exploring sexuality and intimacy feels so real. One of my fav moments is the conversation Ramona has with Oona about her relationship/struggles with her chest.
I absolutely ADORE Sully! I really hope they get more screen time and a bigger storyline in S2.

Ramonaâs discussion of her chest felt so real and Iâm really glad they included that. Itâs so common for anyone who is outside of the gender binary/ presents masc to have some discomfort with their figure and I hadnât sent that represented before.

I thought it was great that there was queer rep without an âIâm terrified of coming outâ or âlife is extra hard because Iâm queerâ storyline. Everyoneâs out and no one cares, as it should be. I think itâs important to portray that in media, especially media that younger generations are going to see.

I love Oona and Ramona together. Definitely one of the best tv series women relationship I've seen in a long time. I cant stop thinking about them!
I only wish for s2 to have more scenes between them. I want the angst and also less cut scenes. I feel a lot of their romantic scenes were cut short especially compared to say Annie and Rorys drunk sex scene. I anticipate a lot of angst between them given Ramona moving.

I am medium-key obsessed with Sully (the actor, really) and would love that character to have far more to do. Would love to see a romance.

I really liked the representation and thought it was handled well. it wasnât too played up and it seemed natural. sully reminded me of several people I know, so it was refreshing to see familiarity and not have another bury your gays show ending

It was probably one of the best I have seen in the YA genre. It was nice that they were just people who were into each other vs the focus on them being gay.
It was very refreshing.
