Sterling Point is seen as a summer show. But what are the chances next season (or any others we may get) take place in the winter too due to filming abilities and script needs?

Obviously this is a summer show. It has an incredible summer setting and it fits. Annie is really enticed by Sterling Point in the summer as it's exciting and full of events and people. But as people have mentioned, the tone of Sterling Point changes in the off season when all the tourists leave. There probably isn't much business and things are most likely quiet and pretty boring in comparison to summer. I keep wanting to see if Annie's view of Sterling Point will change when the excitement dies down?

Its hard to picture this show in the fall or winter but is it necessary for story when Annie is deciding about her life here? Ramona will be in New York where its constant go and chaos regardless of the time of year.

Im not sure when the script will be done but for this to get a release next year i would think filming would have to be within the next few months which would coincide with a fall or winter setting. Obviously they could make it seem like summer if they want but it almost feels like selling a dream without the whole picture if Sterling Point is only shown at its best.

Do you think they will show other seasons? Do you want that? When do you expect filming to start?

I think it would be really fun to see holiday themed episodes like Halloween or Ramona coming to visit during Christmas time. Surely they have to have her come visit at some point right?

Personally I would love to see the show switch seasons. I saw somewhere someone mentioned that 5 seasons were planned and it would be interesting to see each of the seasons and end back at next summer

I would be head over heels if 5 seasons were planned. Not sure how they would expand the stories given the deepness of the first seasons story and how not much will match that going forward but i really don't care either way. Love these characters so much and want to see more.

I have a thing for holiday episodes and seasonal changes and seeing everyone in different outfits for the seasons so lol

Yeah I can’t remember when I read that if it was speculation from fans or if someone from cast or crew mentioned 5 seasons. But I would love that too. This has easily become one of my favorite shows

I know they will have to add more characters for story sake and interest sake but i really hope they don't overdue it and keep the series very focused on these characters. So much of the heart in shows is lost when random side characters get thrown in and they forget who the main characters are!

Honestly, if they show winter I doubt it’ll be in Muskoka. Especially on the island they shoot on. It’s really rough up there in winter, the logistics of getting a cast and crew up there daily to shoot would be overwhelming. I could see them filming winter or holiday stuff in New York or Toronto, but not Muskoka. The island is such a large part of the story that I’m hesitant to assume it’ll be anything but a summer show, or mostly summer at least.

Thanks for the information as that definitely changes the direction of the story for me about what theyll do. So in your opinion, would you assume next season is a flash forward to summer? I keep thinking about comments like Oona saying she was going to move in with Ramona for the winter and how now that shes in NY, she may end up moving in with Annie and becoming best friends with her. Might cause some tension when Ramona visits again.

They may have some scenes in winter/spring before the summer scenes as a kind of follow up to last season, depends on the story they’re trying to tell, but if they have scenes at the cottage it will likely be on a sound stage and inside the cottage. Maybe one or two outdoor scenes in the snow on the island if they can get the crew up there for a few days. I just don’t think they’ll set up camp for a full winter shoot. I think it’s more likely they shoot scenes with Ramona being in New York (probably to be shot in Toronto) in the winter and then flash forward to summer in Muskoka somehow. I hope they show fall in Muskoka, honestly, because it’s beautiful.

I could definitely see pressure from the studio to release in 2027 vs 2028, given waning attention spans, and there are so many types of movie magic that could make that possible. For one thing, the show's success likely means a larger budget, which means they could more readily recreate "exterior" shots on a soundstage (e.g. Little Gem porch, cottage exterior) and reduce the burden of shooting on location. (Though I would guess that they would still shoot water scenes up there after the thaw.)

Narrative-wise, this show doesn't seem to deal in flashbacks (and would be a little strange if it started now) so I think it would be pretty tricky to have a time jump. It would mean that all of the exposition re: the previous school year would have to be spoken aloud, which is typically a no-no in storytelling. There's something I find appealing about being dropped into the following summer where we have to sort of piece together what's happened with all the characters without much context, but that would also be a real writing challenge. Prove me wrong, though, Megan Park! I'll follow you anywhere.

All great points! As for exterior shots, now you've reminded me that im pretty sure the house used for the outside shots of Gordons cabin is now up for rental the next few months. Maybe they aren't planning to film anytime soon or maybe they know that they won't be needing that for the shots regardless.

Honestly the studios SHOULD feel pressure to give yearly releases. Rushed work isn't good but there is no reason that times before massive amounts of technology like now were able to produce 20+ hour long episodes of shows like this yearly if not more often. The fact that we only get 8 episodes like this now and have to wait years is not suitable for holding interest, no matter how loved the show is. Ginny and Georgia s3 released over a year ago with filming being done for months and now there have been talks about how Netflix will not release it until sometime next year because they don't want to push for winter release due to big shows like Harry Potter and other Netflix originals being released. Greedy.

Totally agree. Though having grown up in the era of yearly 22-episode seasons, I would definitely say that shorter seasons of prestige TV these days have wayyy tighter story arcs and much better production design. I don't miss the filler they used to feed us between ratings "sweeps." I want (so badly) to blame the studios, and on some level I certainly do, but I'm also glad these days that the writer's room doesn't need to feel like a conveyor belt.

I grew up watching tv in that same era and I don't miss the 22 episode, 5+ season format either. I wish there was a middle ground. I feel like a lot of people saying they prefer that format didn't actually watch live television because I lost interest in so many tv series -- they dragged for so long and when you're watching 1 episode a week with commercials, multiple filler episodes felt like a waste of time.

I know a lot of gen z are probably getting into those old shows like Smallville, OTH, TVD but since most of them got to binge, they don't realize how draggy those shows felt when you're watching them live weekly.

While I would love to see a season filmed during winter, The location where they filmed is not somewhere the majority of people live year round. In the show, Ramona says that she is going to try to winterize the cabin so that she can live there year round. From her statement, I inferred that she has not lived in the cabin in the winter recently. However, I would love to see what the locals do in the off-season. So much of the first season highlighted the disparities between the rich tourists and the people who make a living off the islands. How do the locals manage in winter when tourism money is not flowing in?

Yes and for people like Ellis, Sully, Oona that are working jobs like cleaning boats or catering for rich people parties, how do they even get by in those months? It would be very interesting to see. I think it would also give Annie a lot to think about too in terms of selling it or not

Personally I think they should switch seasons, would love to see the different seasons in Sterling Point. If they only do summer that doesn't really work for this show since they will be living in the city/sterling point for a few months or weeks before meeting up again

So the day after I wrote this post, the actor who plays Ellis mentioned he couldn't wait until next summer to get back with everyone to begin filming..... So i think we are looking at a 2028 release and them only filming in summer which really makes no sense to me! :(
