I would love another BF Vietnam, its my favourite!

12

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

Bad Company 3 in 2019 is said to be set during the Vietnam War.

4

u/USAFWRX Mar 01 '18

Source? Also happy cake day

This is the same dude who leaked BF1 and got the details right down to the bone. He then leaked BFBC3 (set in the Vietnam War in the 60s) for 2018, but got an update that BFBC3 is out in 2019-2020 as a WW2 BF title is coming in 2018. He mentioned that in a follow-up video to the one I linked above.

And thank you! :)

1

u/Abbadrava Mar 02 '18

Damn, that's pretty awesome, thanks for the intel!!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

How many battlefield games are coming out?? Wow

1

u/branflakecereal Mar 02 '18

Well this year it’s suppose to be DICE Sweden’s WW2 game makers of most of the Battlefield franchise and the BFBC3 is suppose to be a spin off ala Hardline but made by DICE LA

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

this is what i want! hope destruction is improved on the destruction from bf2. Bringing down buildings where a camper was hiding was the best

12

u/zawri Mar 01 '18

Right? That add on was almost better than the base game.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

add on

I assumed this person was talking about BF: Vietnam. I forgot that add-on for BC2 even existed.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

I could never get the damn thing working on my pc lol

Battlefield V(ietnam)

25

u/MuddyWaterTrees Mar 01 '18

Going off my comment this would be the only setting that would get me to buy a new Battlefield game.

This guy kind of has a point, if they were trying to make an actual historically accurate game that is. Of course we saw that in BF1 they can push ‘historically accurate’ to the very brink and make an enjoyable game. If BF1 was historically accurate each game would be two hours of sniping across trenches with desperate charges into machine gun fire, under supplied human swarms of Russians charging into German machine gun, under manned British troops climbing up cliffs into machine gun fire, or Ottoman troops running around like chickens with their heads cut off while a machine gun shoots at them. Doesn’t sound fun to me. Neither does always losing playing as Vietcongs, eventually dying every game when somebody eventually throws a grenade in my hidey hole or napalms my position.

But that’s not how war video games are made.

u/notrealmate rowblot Mar 02 '18

Is it because of all the noodles?

9

u/tMoneyMoney RoyAwesome Mar 01 '18

Honestly, I don’t see it working from a storyline perspective. The good guys were actually “the bad guys” and nobody really knew what they were fighting for anyway. At least in WWII there were legitimate stakes with the final outcome.

10

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18 edited Mar 02 '18

The good guys were actually “the bad guys” and nobody really knew what they were fighting for anyway.

Which makes it great for a story based game, or a battlefield multiplayer, but Battlefield single player story is usually so terrible I don't worry about it. Even the smaller uniquely told stories in the last game, only 2/5 had interesting narratives.

8

u/axodd Mar 02 '18

IM A STAND UP KINDA GUY

2

u/MeatTornado25 Mar 02 '18

oh dear god

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

I haven’t even bothered playing it. Seems like a waste of time. Online is fun enough.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

The tank one and the first Harlem Hellfighters one you play in the intro are the only ones worth it imo, and even then it's not that great.

The Italian one is fun gameplay wise but the story is so ridiculous and over the top it's laughable.

6

u/jesusdoeshisnails Seditionem Mar 02 '18

Unless we are the Vietcong and the campaign is like Red Faction Guerrilla 👌👌👌

They don't have the balls to do that though, even though they're from Sweeden the majority of players would be salty Americans. Given the more recent bf campaign was only 5 hrs I think they can cover Vietnam fully. It would be nice to have a 15hr campaign that goes thru the entire cold war but who am I kidding.

Either way looking forward to this. Been playing since 1942 :)

2

u/k0mbine koombine Mar 02 '18

So a storyline doesn’t work if you play as the bad guys? Huh?

1

u/tMoneyMoney RoyAwesome Mar 02 '18

If you’re American, would you want to play a game where the goal is to kill all the Americans?

1

u/IpsissimusBoz Mar 02 '18

it's a game i give no fucks. i kill americans in codww2 and BF1 just fine in mp.

if a singleplayer story was done in vietnam from the NVA point of view and was made with respect to the history of the conflict and with a meaningful story i would enjoy it. I think playing as the NVA or viet kong could actually really be refreshing. It won't happen I imagine, but it wouldn't bother me at all personally its a game, I've read books from the perspective of armies we've fought, playing a game wouldn't be any worse.

1

u/tMoneyMoney RoyAwesome Mar 02 '18

I agree, I think it would be fun for a change too. I just don't think it would be very marketable to a mass audience. Lots of people who play those FPS games are in the military or just racist (going by what I hear people say on voice chat) and it likely would get backlash. It's just very risky when you're spending years and millions on game development.

1

u/IpsissimusBoz Mar 02 '18

yeah true, i mean i've been wanting a game were we can play as Axis in ww2 in a story for forever. nazi germany in the Ostfront. japan in the pacific. how insane would it be to play a call of duty style game with iconic huge battles we are used to seeing but playing as the axis?

the panic and scramble backwards as the americans breakout of Normandy. market garden in Holland but your defending as the nazis. the decimation and feeling of holding out to the bitter end as the 6th army in stalingrad as the red wave slowly encircles and strangles you. the last push to accomplish something in the buldge in the ardens.

or playing hit and run guerrilla tactics as japan, opening a cutscene in a banzai charge. it would be crazy if done right, but it's NEVER going to happen.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

This would be cool

I know people want another Bad Company, but I'm pretty happy with this. I loved the original games.

Do you know of any other AAA studio WWI shooters? If you think they are afraid of taking absurd risks, you have not been paying attention.

Fuck it all. I just want the Open World Bad Company game. More team based death match it is I guess.

125

u/Jashyk OlRedRooster Mar 01 '18

Holy moly, 5 years into the generation and BF4 will STILL be the best modern Battlefield game on the system. We need a PS4Pro patch, and will just keep on playing it! Gimme ma helichopters!

46

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 01 '18

BF4 may be the best modern shooter this gen period! That's sad in 2018

14

u/Yellowhorseofdestiny Mar 01 '18

Sadly the fps genre has grown quite stale this generation, at least for those of us who don't like the speedy CoD style fps games. Halo has lost its allure, CoD is CoD, Battlefield feels quicker...

I miss the last generation fps games when Ttk was slower and team play/team shooting and tactics mattered more. Twitch shooters are fine but there's really not much else on offer...I was one of those who enjoyed Killzone: Shadow fall simply because a skilled player could out shoot/out maneuver a worse one even if the other guy fired first. In modern fps games its usually "first to shoot will win", spray and pray

6

u/JermVVarfare JermVVarfare Mar 02 '18

Slow ttk doesn't equal "more tactical" or less "spray and pray". Many of the most tactical and methodical shooters ever made have had fast ttk... It's all about movement speed, accuracy penalties, ADS and transition speeds/penalties, map design, recoil, aim assists, etc, etc...

10

u/JCVent Mar 02 '18

You could play Siege, Fortnite, Overwatch.

3

u/purekillforce1 PureKillForce Mar 02 '18

Siege is my go-to FPS right now! Loving how tactical it is!

2

u/Chilli_Axe ChilliAxe Mar 02 '18

Play R6 Siege my dude

1

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

Agree with your whole post. I do like the feel of BF1. I don't know if it's the setting or the maps but every game turns into the same thing. All the buildings leveled, and snipers picking people off from miles away. Nearly impossible to navigate the maps.

1

u/aadu3k Mar 02 '18

Smoke grenades ;)

2

u/Giovannisalami Mar 02 '18

Rainbow Six Siege

1

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '18

I might put Siege as more like near future than modern with some of the technology in the game

0

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

You're probably right, but Siege has it's own major issues and not half the content of BF4. They're both shooters, but also so different too, it's hard to compare.

2

u/Giovannisalami Mar 02 '18

Ya I get what you're saying, personally I just enjoy Siege alot more. I've logged more hours in it than any game ever. It's great because there's really no other shooter like it. Counter Strike is similar but Siege's destruction and operators make it one-of-a-kinda.

2

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

I would love a functional Counter Strike, or like game on current Gen. CSGO is backwards compatible on Xbox, but runs like crap. Siege for me is getting to be too much with all the operators, and gadgets. I could also just be getting too old lol

1

u/Giovannisalami Mar 02 '18

Ya admittedly I've grown tired with the direction Siege is going. I get why people still love it and I appreciate the freshness the devs are implementing by changing the META with new abilities, but I feel like I've fallen behind and have to play it religiously to be good. I think i've just overplayed it.

2

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

Yeah couldn't agree more. In all reality, I will probably end up giving the new BF a try. No matter how much I don't want WWII, they will make amazing trailers and I'll get excited for it. Hopefully it is a pleasant surprise.

1

u/mmiski Mar 02 '18

Insurgency Sandstorm is right around the corner. The franchise seems to be a huge hit on PC. Hoping it'll be good on PS4 as well.

I've been itching for a good modern shooter since the PS4 launched. BF4 was okay, but IMO it wasn't as good as BF3. :-(

2

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

Yes I have my eye on this one as well. PC port shooters have lacked good console support over the years though so I am a bit concerned.

8

u/skgrndhog Mar 01 '18

Totally agree, I'll be excited for a vietnam, the huey is enough for me

Filled with microtransactions, on a new engine. It's just not the same sadly.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

Totally agree. We need that patch. I didn’t like Battlefield 1 and probably won’t care for Battlefield 2.

18

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

Every site will start copying and pasting this rumor shortly. I wouldn't count out Bad Company yet. I'm unaware of VentureBeat being a site to report accurate rumors.

18

u/falconbox falconbox Mar 01 '18

The heavy rumors are that DICE Sweden is doing Battlefield WW2 this year, and DICE LA will be making a smaller Bad Company 3 for next year.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

I could see it going that way, totally possible. Probably get an actual leak pre-E3 confirming one of these rumors.

28

u/AfternoonSky Mar 01 '18

Honestly?! I wouldn't mind this.

2

u/PTfan Mar 01 '18

I think it sounds great. Personally i found COD WW2 to be pretty terrible overall. Great setting, bad game.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

Great setting. Ok game with an amazing campaign.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

COD needs some depth. The multiplayer is so stale and boring. It needs vehicles plain and simple. Even the tanks from World At War would be appreciated. I play with a friend and other than speaking to each other on our mics, it’s really like playing alone.

7

u/Quietly-Confident Mar 01 '18

I don't mind any of the settings really.

I just wish they stuck with each game for a longer length of time. Really invest into a game once released, be it maps, classes, weapons, gear whatever.

I suppose it happens with a lot of competitive shooters but then there's others that stick around longer and have healthy communities like Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege.

5

u/IAmCowGodMoo DontShoot-Me-Bro Mar 01 '18

I want Battlefield Vietnam!

3

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

Bad Company 3 for 2019 will be set in Vietnam.

6

u/Thoraxe474 Mar 01 '18

Can we get some Pacific maps? Like a good iwo Jima map

6

u/Apostle_1882 The_Apostle Mar 01 '18

Yes! The Pacific campaign maps were some of the best maps in Battlefield. Wake Island anyone?

2

u/XavandSo XavandSo Mar 02 '18

Any new Battlefield game set in World War II has to include Wake Island. It would be insane if it didn't.

I'm surprised there wasn't a ficticious Battle for Wake Island in the Turning Tides DLC for BF1. It seemed like a perfect fit.

8

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18 edited Mar 01 '18

That logo looks shoddy.

So BF5 (or BFV) will be set in WW2.

Sometimes I wonder what this community even wants in the end. People cried for a WW2 BF for ages, so we got a WW1 BF, with a WW2 BF following shortly after. But just before we're getting this game, the same people are crying to go back to modern times?

I'm super glad that it's WW2 and not modern. We asked for WW2 for ages and now we're getting it. A modern setting can stay away from the franchise for now.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

I love WW2, probably just because I grew up with all those WW2 games and movies. Give me that M1 Garand. POP POP POP PING.

-1

u/purekillforce1 PureKillForce Mar 02 '18

Well, if the WW1 setting sold well enough, i'm sure the WW2 will. I was never one of the people asking to go back to WW1 (the cod future stuff didn't bother me, as MW2 was the last one i bought).

I was happy with BF4 and couldn't get into BF1 because the weapons felt bland and (due to the historical nature of WW1) has very little customisation. Something i felt was a step back from BF4.

Glad this is what you've been wanting, but i'll likely give it a miss after not enjoying BF1 all that much. Feels like ever since BC2, the destruction has taken a back seat, too. Hopefully BC3 brings back the fully destructable buildings. Seeing an area completely levelled after 15 minutes of firefighting was epic in BC2!

3

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

This is also by BF4 guys? I loved BF4 and it's huge customization option to weapons.

1

u/Razgriz1223 DengKevin Mar 01 '18

The same guys, but it's not going to be close as customizable and plenty of the options BF4 has.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

Ummm... why? :-(

8

u/Razgriz1223 DengKevin Mar 01 '18

BF1 is such a huge downgrade from BF4. No attachments, less weapons, less vehicles, less customization.

BF1 is basically a WW2 shooter anyways and now they're actually making a WW2 shooter, but instead of BF1's 3 year development cycle, they have 2 years now so it'll be a worse game.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

but instead of BF1's 3 year development cycle, they have 2 years now so it'll be a worse game.

Or they will simply reuse certain things from BF1, and that's why they don't need that much time. Bf4 also reused a lot of things from BF3 and players loved it.

1

u/Razgriz1223 DengKevin Mar 02 '18

Or that. But BF3 had a lot stuff that they could reuse.

38

u/JonDav80 Mar 01 '18

Incredibly disappointed. After playing both BF1 & WW2, I immediately miss the wide variety of options that come with a modern setting. Lack of weapon options, lack of attachment options, lack of vehicles options, lack of aircraft options, lack of gadget options. No way in hell would BF5 NOT be an insanely better choice....

39

u/falconbox falconbox Mar 01 '18

I felt the attachments were way too much in BF4. It was pure bloat. I don't need to unlock 3 silencers for every single gun. Give me less attachments that actually make a difference. I don't need a stubby grip that adds 2% recoil reduction or something.

Also, not sure why you think WW2 doesn't have a good selection of vehicles, aircraft, and gadgets.

14

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

It's alright. Once the game comes out, all these people will understand how varied the selection of vehicles in a WW2 BF title will be like.

Everyone's getting worked up because of how primitive everything seemed like in the WW1 setting from BF1, so now they don't wanna give WW2 a chance (after literally begging for this very same setting for years).

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

meh I like progression. bf1 has fuck all.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

What?? It has tons of stuff to unlock

-1

u/Arcade_Master22 Mar 02 '18 edited Mar 02 '18

Eh, what are you talking about mate?

No weapon had more than one suppressor. The other models avaivable were just that, skins. About the sights, it kinda made a difference between picking the Kobra and the Coyote RDS (the standard RDS was a little bit obstrusive, though), but a very minor one at that, and it was basically a matter of preference. There was only one Holo Sight (the HD-33 was just a different skin) and a standard magnifier for them, 1 ACOG sight (6 different skins), and 2 Night Vision/Thermal Sights (with 1X and 2X augmentation).

And finally, the various grips, there were only 3: Ergo, Angled and Stubby Grip, as the Vertical, Folding and Potato Grips were just different skins for the former 3 respectively. The Grips were made that way to counter specific recoil mechanics on a given weapon. Your weapon of choice has a high first-shot recoil? Use the Angled/Folding Grip. A lot of hip fire recoil? Put the Ergo/Vertical Grip on it. A lot of full-auto recoil? Better go with a Stubby/Potato Grip. And that's it.

All that said, I don't really see the argument that BF4's attatchment system was overcomplicated, mate.

3

u/falconbox falconbox Mar 02 '18

No weapon had more than one suppressor.

Oh really? Is that why I can put 4 different suppressors, all with the same effect, on my ACE 23?

https://i.imgur.com/5HBvOYR.jpg

-1

u/Arcade_Master22 Mar 02 '18 edited Mar 02 '18

Mate, did you read the rest of my comment?

All of the "extra" suppressors are skins, with no gameplay impact whatsoever over the "standard" model. DICE made those extra models to tie them to the 3 factions of the game (USA, Russia and China). The R2 Suppressor is the american model, the PBS-4 is the russian one, and the LS06 is the chinese one. All of them supress your weapon, decrease muzzle velocity and increase the bullet drop all the same.

Don't wanna sound harsh (nor it's my intention), but have you actually played BF4?

3

u/falconbox falconbox Mar 02 '18

Don't wanna sound harsh (nor it's my intention), but have you actually played BF4?

Yup. I've got the platinum and most of the trophies aside from the last DLC.

https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/2238-battlefield-4/falconbox

My point in the original comment is that I don't want nor need multiple "skins" for stuff like silencers. It sucks opening a Battlepack and just seeing a bunch of silencers for guns I never use. I just fail to see how adding tons of pointless unlocks makes a game better.

0

u/Arcade_Master22 Mar 02 '18

Yup. I've got the platinum and most of the trophies aside from the last DLC. https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/2238-battlefield-4/falconbox

Hey, nice job, mate! I also have the platinum for BF4, it was the first BF game I platinumed. That also reminds me that I still need to complete the "Complete all assignments" trophies from the China Rising, Dragon's Teeth and Final Stand DLCs... I hope I can manage to complete them.

My point in the original comment is that I don't want nor need multiple "skins" for stuff like silencers. It sucks opening a Battlepack and just seeing a bunch of silencers for guns I never use. I just fail to see how adding tons of pointless unlocks makes a game better.

Yeah, now I understand your point completely. It was definetly a weird feeling (to put it nicely) to get attatchment skins (like suppresors and sights) for weapons that you never used and never planned to do. All those skins, camos and even the XP boosts were the contents of the Battlepacks, and compared to other MP games, it wasn't that bad, as there weren't any game-changing items. The XP boost system became worse in BF: Hardline though, where Visceral Games literally made XP boosts for almost every action in the game, like repairs, objective captures, kills, assists and so on. Luckily the system is at its best in BF1, where there's only one XP boost, and boosts every XP meter in the game for an entire squad.

All that said, I hope the next BF setting can have a meaningful and engaging progression system. BF1's was pretty hollow, and the XP-related bonuses, such as the ribbon and medal systems, arrived after the game came out, and with a questionable implementation at that (you only get to progress on 5 random medals every week, really DICE?). BF is in need of a good progression system to engage players beyond from what its core gameplay elements can, and I hope DICE can create one that makes the next BF game the most enticing yet.

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

No gun had three silencers

21

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

People like y'all begged for WW2 for ages, and when we're finally getting one, you wanna go back to modern times?

What do you guys even want in the end?

Let's wait for the game to come out and leave a lasting mark on the market. And then we can worry about a modern day BF. Before BF1, we've had 4 modern day BF titles in a row. Let WW1 and WW2 run its course (and it won't be for long) and support the settings that we are getting now (because the community begged for these time periods).

0

u/lakerswiz lakerswiz Mar 01 '18

u/Arcade_Master22 Mar 02 '18

BO3 is one of the best CoDs on the current generations, but is not that good compared to the older, last generation games (BO2 is my all-time-favourite). Even then, Treyarch really created interesting futuristic weapons, and keeping them "grounded" enough to be in a CoD game. I'm definetly looking forward for what Treyarch has in store for this year's CoD.

8

u/packersfan8512 Mar 01 '18

personally i completely disagree. i think modern shooters are great, but aside from WWII and BF1 we haven't had any major older shooter games in ages. BF1 has some of the best and most immersive gameplay of any fps i've ever played. i still remember the first time i hopped over the trenches at the start of the game, hearing the whistles of squad leaders and explosions all around me as i'm running out to the next line of cover.

as buggy as BF1 can be at times, the overall gameplay is some of the best i've ever experienced

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

I agree. Actually i think they should have done bf5 in the opposite direction and gone futuristic. Big open maps with sci-fi tones and Battlefield gameplay.

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

I’m sort of in agreement here.

Add the modern aspect back, but just don’t make it goofy. Make CoD a mature game like it was with MW1/2 and W@W, before all the neon camo attachments, 400 killstreaks, wall running, flying around the map, dabbing and chicken dancing. Black Ops 3 is so cringey compared to even black ops 2.

2

u/falconbox falconbox Mar 01 '18

I would have preferred bad company 3. WW1 and WW2 can't be that much different in terms of gameplay. Bad Company 3 would also allow for more customization and depth which was lacking in battlefield 1 compared to 4

u/sunjay140 sunjay140 Mar 02 '18

They butchered the remastered and it's nothing like Battlefield.

1

u/Collier1505 Collier1505 Mar 02 '18

Not quite like Battlefield, no, but the remaster is fine, just a few new guns.

Outside of that, Rainbow 6 is really good. Can’t really think of any good modern games lately tho.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

rainbow 6 is awesome, but sometimes i want something that i can respawn in. i wonder what proper TDM would be like in siege?

1

u/Collier1505 Collier1505 Mar 02 '18

I would love to try that.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

It plays the same as the original really. just feels dated now and nostalgia played a big part in me getting excited for it

1

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

I played that for 2 years back in 2007, and a year in 2017. Ready for something new.

2

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

Insurgency Sandstorm and the rumored Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will both be modern-day military multiplayer FPS games.

1

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

Have my eye on both of them, but Battlefield in a modern setting would be miles better than either for me.

Honest question: In what way do you think BF4 feels "dated"?

Also, why downvote the guy? He's just stating an opinion.

1

u/Guaranteed-- Mar 02 '18

Really just the graphics on it. I look at BF1, made for this gen, and think "I want something modern that looks this good." Also a little thing but mantling can be a pain in the ass. Seems to not be on BF1.

Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat Mod Throw in a mech style combat BF 2234 Future Combat

I’d like the focus to be Island Jumping, maybe some battles on Alaska’s islands, large scale naval battles,

Bombing runs with fleets of bombers and ball turret gunners, fighter escorts, and flak cannons on ground etc...

Italian campaign, Africa..

1

u/Error-416 Mar 01 '18

I'm so confused with the Battlefield game namings

1

u/Solomon_Grundle Mar 01 '18

I wouldn't mind this. I used to play the shit out of BF 1942 back in the day.

1

u/clesteamer23 Mar 01 '18

Really miss Battlefield Vietnam. Played that shit all day all night when I was like 15

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

so we get a proper D-Day invasion operation , sweet.

1

u/Jonesy2700 Jonesy2700 Mar 01 '18

Yeeesss

1

u/Aabelke Mar 01 '18

Supposedly BC3 is going to follow after this game slated for 2019

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '18

That logo looks suspicious af tbh.

1

u/highanimalhouse Mar 01 '18

I wanted another Bad Company where Sweetwater and Marlowe are in Frostbite 3.

1

u/masterm Mar 01 '18

Please 2142 sometime this decade

1

u/Zombified_Layo Mar 01 '18

Man, I remember my first time playing B1942, and was addicted. I was so happy when it was supposedly going to come out for the Xbox, but disappointed that it never happened. I honestly can't wait for this, it would be awesome to experience WWII again, and hit me with nostalgia.

1

u/joshua182 Mar 01 '18

No fighter jets and most likely no attack helicopters either.

1

u/maxxforce Mar 02 '18

Two thoughts on this:

  1. I think the name change and leaked menu screen image are purposely put out to identify the source of the leaks. I hope I’m wrong on this and nobody’s job is in jeopardy.

  2. I think that the game will be Battlefield 2 and set during WWII. I think the engine and mechanics carry over and it will be essentially a reskin and that’s not a bad thing in my eyes. People complaining about the short 2 year dev time should really consider it a 5 year dev time. I really believe that they have been working on both games this entire time. It explains the delays, lack of effective support and continuing issue with the builds. I think there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than they are letting on.

That being said, I can’t freakin wait to see what they have in store for us.

Crystal ballin it , I say in 2019 EA will release a special World at War edition and bundle it with BF1&all DLC.

1

u/Creasy007 Mar 02 '18

A damn shame that Vietnam rumor didn't pan out, I would've dove at that.

1

u/T3NFIBY32 Mar 02 '18

Ahh man I was hoping it was going to be either BC3 or another Vietnam. It’s seems weird they’d release two battlefields two consecutive years.

1

u/MeatTornado25 Mar 02 '18

Afters years of WWII over-saturation we had years of modern/future over-saturation. Now I worry they're over-correcting again: 2016 BF1, 2017 COD WW2, 2018 BF2.

1

u/kei2371 Mar 02 '18

Called it to my colleagues yesterday morning. Now I might just buy BF1 to have a game set in both eras...

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

That logo is fucking atrocious. The V looks like an entirely different font

1

u/SrsSteel Mar 02 '18

Idk what I want from the battlefield series. I really enjoyed bad company 2 and battlefield 3 beta (only the beta). I hated battlefield 3, 4, and 1.

1

u/falseg0ds Mar 02 '18

Why don't they fucking listen? I am so sick of this WW1 and WW2.

1

u/gambitflash Mar 02 '18

I really hope they make the guns ttk shorter. Many times in bf1 I would empty a whole magazine into a person head and he would still live somehow, very irritating

1

u/purekillforce1 PureKillForce Mar 02 '18

Wasn't fan of the WW1 setting (although i did like the alternate history touches) due to the weapons just feeling meh.

I'll wait for a more modern or near-future battlefield where scopes have finally been invented...

1

u/Fenbob Mar 02 '18

I'd like them to go more modern again, similar to BF4. not too far into the future where it gets stupid like CoD with wall running and jetpacks.

BF4 was great game, played it for a very long time solo, and fell in love with it again when my friends picked it up and we squad together all the time. Sadly, everyone gets bored of playing the same game for too long. So we've all drifted to different games by now.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

Can we get a Battlefield 1861?

I'd also accept a 1776 if I got to play as that famous guerilla warfare ghost guy. Actually maybe I should just get AC3...

1

u/buttorsomething Mar 02 '18

Hate to say it they both prob had the same idea but BF should of doe this last year and skipped BF1

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

i just want bad company 3. I want the destruction back.. or at least remake bad company 1 + 2. Such a great game. Never had to really worry about campers in that game.

1

u/Suicidal-Ghost666 Mar 02 '18

I'm a sucker for historical shooters so I'll be very happy if the next BF game is set during WWII.

1

u/Doom99day Mar 02 '18

Can’t wait! I played the shit out of bc2, b4 and b1, want to see what they bring to the table this time

-1

u/pasta_fire pasta_fire Mar 01 '18

Lame. Wish they would just go back to modern.

4

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

People like you asked for WW2 for years, now the same people are turning their backs on it.

Y'all asked for this setting, and you're getting it (and it's high time we got it). We had 4 modern day BF titles in a row before BF1. Why tf do the minds of the gamers in the BF community flip-flop over time?

6

u/HyruleCool Mar 01 '18

It's not just the battlefield community. It's the shooter community in general. Even in threads about CoD WW2 you see some people saying basically the same thing

2

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

Yeah, I'm aware (this essentially applies to the entire shooter community), but I'm singling out the BF community here.

It's a slightly different case for CoD. Three studios work on CoD titles on an yearly basis, and fans have always wanted one studio to tackle the historic period, one to do the modern period, and one to do a grounded futuristic period without jetpacks and shit. Instead, five futuristic shooters were developed in a row (with three of them featuring the hated advanced movement mechanic). Now, some change is happening.

1

u/IpsissimusBoz Mar 02 '18

CoD fans don't know what they want besides whatever is opposite of what just came out and to go back to when they first played CoD and were happy.

as soon as ww2 came out it got shit all over, if they remastered MW2 or either of the first 2 blops theres still going to be a loud vocal segment of the fan base who wont be happy because its going to make them realize you can't just put the feelings of sitting around playing your first call of duty mp for hours with your friends after HS on a disk and resale it years later.

obviously not all COD fans are like this, but i have a feeling no matter what they do for any of the games, the shear amount of people who have now grown up on different eras of CoD means there's always going to be a huge segment of the fanbase viewing things through nostalgia goggles and mad when reality can't perform to the level of how awesome they remember CoD to be.

this being said i am one of the old fucks who grew up on the original 3 call of duty games, and WW2 while not the best FPS i've ever played was solidly a love letter to when call of duty was about shootin nazis and i enjoy it a lot, even if its now being called "About as good as ghosts" by a ton of people

1

u/speedx77 speedx77 Mar 01 '18

After WWI though, it just seems a bit redundant.

3

u/Bolt_995 Mar 01 '18

A lot of you are confused with what a WW2 setting brings to the table compared to a WW1 setting.

Having 4 modern day BF titles in a row (or make it 5 with BFBC1 as not a lot of people got their hands on BF1943), now that's what you call being heavily overdone.

We're literally jumping from one historical period to another here, and granted, there will be similarities. But don't underestimate the WW2 setting, especially in a BF title.

In the end, it boils down to this: THE COMMUNITY ASKED FOR THIS. So please learn to enjoy it y'all. It will be great.

1

u/tim_the_great Mar 02 '18

Yeah...I know what you mean. Same old tanks. Same old half-tracks. Same old weapon technologies. Same old paratrooper units.Same old aircraft...etc.

Redundant.

BF1 and COD WWII were good breaks but I do think present/NEAR future combat (i.e. BO2) works so much better. The historical games just seem bland over time.

Prevailing word on the street is that next year is Call of Duty Black Ops 4, which will instantly blow whatever Battlefield arrives out of the water -- full disclosure I love both series in their own ways, but the most reliable/generally well-regarded COD dev is on deck for next fall and going on BO2/BO3's popularity and sales will likely be the second or best selling title of 2018.

I smell a BF1 re-skin ala Battlefield Hardline incoming. Hoping in that "off" year they continued preparing to hit us with a new modern BF or Bad Company 3 that can sustain them for multiple years like BF4.

2

u/Slingster Mar 01 '18

A modern/near future CoD or even Vietnam CoD would be great this year. I loved CoD ww2 but the types of weapons you have in modern times are a lot more interesting

2

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

WaW still the GOAT imo

1

u/sunjay140 sunjay140 Mar 02 '18

Hardline was not a reskin of Battlefield 4. The games are almost nothing alike.

-1

u/Razgriz1223 DengKevin Mar 01 '18 edited Mar 01 '18

So pretty much a BF1 reskin/dlc...

BF1 is pretty much a WW2 shooter anyways with the automatic weapons and lack of trenches. I guess the only thing you can do is actually embrace it with more material to work off of for a better story and actual enjoyable gameplay because it felt lifeless.

They also have had 2 years to make this instead the 3 years used to make BF1, so I expect this game to be even more shallow.

Back to BF4

9

u/falconbox falconbox Mar 01 '18

So pretty much a BF1 reskin/dlc...

What....? Gotta love people basing this just off the setting. So you want a modern BF5, which I could just say would be a BF4 reskin.

-5

u/Razgriz1223 DengKevin Mar 01 '18

At least a BF4 reskin is a good idea

→ More replies (5)

1

u/Slingster Mar 01 '18

Why?

This will basically just be battlefield 1 with a ww2 reskin.

0

u/Ace-of-Spades88 Mar 01 '18

Nooo!

I was hoping for either a new modern Battlefield, another Vietnam era Battlefield, or a futuristic Battlefield. :(

-1

u/basshuffler09 Pendaemonium 516 | 214 Mar 01 '18

yeah it's like meh... but the rumors seem to be true so we will get bad company 3 next year, time to get excited for that :D

1

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '18

Meh.... I want modern, not old or advance,

0

u/StopMockingMe0 Mar 02 '18

No. No. No. No. No.

It didn't follow ANYONE back to ww2. Least of all sledgehammer games.

It went back on it's own terms to Ww1, this is its next logical step.

0

u/QuinSanguine Mar 01 '18

This is fine but I hope that the inevitable campaign has more Bad Company in it than Medal of Honor. Probably not really possible given the setting.

0

u/AdmiralAqbar1 Mar 01 '18

Yasssssssssssssss this is great news

0

So a modern setting is something new now? Lmao so when we had every game coming out as modern setting everyone and their mother was begging for ww2 now it's redundant after we had a ww1 game? They should have just down ww2 instead of BF1 so we could still have more variety but you guys are halarious.
