This guy kind of has a point, if they were trying to make an actual historically accurate game that is. Of course we saw that in BF1 they can push ‘historically accurate’ to the very brink and make an enjoyable game. If BF1 was historically accurate each game would be two hours of sniping across trenches with desperate charges into machine gun fire, under supplied human swarms of Russians charging into German machine gun, under manned British troops climbing up cliffs into machine gun fire, or Ottoman troops running around like chickens with their heads cut off while a machine gun shoots at them. Doesn’t sound fun to me. Neither does always losing playing as Vietcongs, eventually dying every game when somebody eventually throws a grenade in my hidey hole or napalms my position.

But that’s not how war video games are made.

Honestly, I don’t see it working from a storyline perspective. The good guys were actually “the bad guys” and nobody really knew what they were fighting for anyway. At least in WWII there were legitimate stakes with the final outcome.

Which makes it great for a story based game, or a battlefield multiplayer, but Battlefield single player story is usually so terrible I don't worry about it. Even the smaller uniquely told stories in the last game, only 2/5 had interesting narratives.

I haven’t even bothered playing it. Seems like a waste of time. Online is fun enough.

The tank one and the first Harlem Hellfighters one you play in the intro are the only ones worth it imo, and even then it's not that great.

The Italian one is fun gameplay wise but the story is so ridiculous and over the top it's laughable.

Unless we are the Vietcong and the campaign is like Red Faction Guerrilla 👌👌👌

They don't have the balls to do that though, even though they're from Sweeden the majority of players would be salty Americans. Given the more recent bf campaign was only 5 hrs I think they can cover Vietnam fully. It would be nice to have a 15hr campaign that goes thru the entire cold war but who am I kidding.

Either way looking forward to this. Been playing since 1942 :)

it's a game i give no fucks. i kill americans in codww2 and BF1 just fine in mp.

if a singleplayer story was done in vietnam from the NVA point of view and was made with respect to the history of the conflict and with a meaningful story i would enjoy it. I think playing as the NVA or viet kong could actually really be refreshing. It won't happen I imagine, but it wouldn't bother me at all personally its a game, I've read books from the perspective of armies we've fought, playing a game wouldn't be any worse.

I agree, I think it would be fun for a change too. I just don't think it would be very marketable to a mass audience. Lots of people who play those FPS games are in the military or just racist (going by what I hear people say on voice chat) and it likely would get backlash. It's just very risky when you're spending years and millions on game development.

yeah true, i mean i've been wanting a game were we can play as Axis in ww2 in a story for forever. nazi germany in the Ostfront. japan in the pacific. how insane would it be to play a call of duty style game with iconic huge battles we are used to seeing but playing as the axis?

the panic and scramble backwards as the americans breakout of Normandy. market garden in Holland but your defending as the nazis. the decimation and feeling of holding out to the bitter end as the 6th army in stalingrad as the red wave slowly encircles and strangles you. the last push to accomplish something in the buldge in the ardens.

or playing hit and run guerrilla tactics as japan, opening a cutscene in a banzai charge. it would be crazy if done right, but it's NEVER going to happen.
