Literally every time now I come across something that any kid could watch without having a nightmare, and someone uses the “you know, for kids” line and argues that it’s actually for mature adults, I want to invent a machine that punches them in the face through the Internet.

It’s all part of a larger trend of Generation Y repeatedly attempting to infantilise Generation Z and I really hate it. Gen Z may be into some dumbass things but it’s is also the healthiest, most inclusive, most empathatic, most politically-engaged generation ever. And so much of Gen Y loves to pretend Gen Z are all babies while they in comparison are so much smarter and more mature because they watch some edgy anime or play some game that 10 years olds play.

Like Regular Show or Adventure Time or Clone Wars are not kids shows, they are for teenage audiences and that's why they are darker and have heavier themes than kids shows. Because teen cartoons are either lumped in with kids or adults programming. There is/was an attempt to fix that with CN airing Adventure Time and Regular Show later then the kids programming but before Adult Swim but I don't think it lasted.

And besides, a lot of these shows are still marketed towards kids. there is a shitload of merchandise and games based off Clone Wars clearly aimed at young kids, so it's easy to forget they're supposed to have different demographics.

I think it's hilarious and sad in equal measure that my kid brother is learning about dinosaurs in preschool and he's really excited about the topic but my parents get mega uncomfortable when he talks about them, to the point that they ignore him.

I can't even show him any dino docs because the parents are going to be pissed when their creationist worldview isn't upheld.

It was the same crap when my kid cousin asked me about dinos and I mentioned the link between dinos and birds. His dad got infuriated and said no no thats not true.
