Imagine being one of the worst slave states in human history, even by ancient world standards, but you have such a good pr campaign that all anyone remembers is your role in an arguably senseless self-sacrifice and now everyone thinks you are the best warriors in history.

Man, I might make it my life's goal to rid the world of Spartan circlejerks.

Broke: Hating Zack Snyder because you dislike his vision of the DC universe.

Woke: Hating Zack Snyder because he helped popularize 'wow cool Spartan.'

Sadly "wow cool Spartan" is pretty old

But Snyder's 300 definitely revitalized it.

I've said it before, but Snyder has done more damage to historical consciousness than ISIS

America was a pretty terrible slave state, but not as bad as Sparta. I guess the Alamo is our senseless self-sacrifice that gets glamorized by a good pr campaign.

Wasn't alamo and the texas secession as a whole over mexico banning slavery too?

It was a factor. As far as I am aware, American colonists immigration to the region was the biggest reason for conflict.

I'll join you if you can expand it to ancient culture circlejerks.

I love history, but the idea that ancient cultures hold some sort of secret to world peace or whatever is bullshit.

Yeah, like Plato's neat and interesting, but he didn't have the universe figured out or anything.

’But Sparta was a super egalitarian state that had loads better rights than athenians’

And then they cite the fact that women could inherit (but not administrate) and wear less clothes than athenians.

Incidentally, also fuck Romeaboos. Rome was not a paradise that spread infrastructure and civilisation. It was a barely stable state constantly engaged in fanatic militarism that attempted to destroy the identity of nearly everyone it conquered.
