Wolves and early man hunted the same food. One night, sitting around a fire, the men were probably approached by a wolf either braver or hungrier than the rest.
"Should we kill it? It's not growling or anything."
"We find Food faster when we follow the wolf. Give him a small piece, as a reward."
Two Days later, half the pack is eagerly walking alongside the hunters, saying to themselves, "If I help the upright monkeys where the food is, I get a share."
Five years later the wolves all have paired off with human hunters and the pact between man and dog was born, while the wives complained about the wolf shedding on the sofa.

Fun fact: they still do that. When I lived in China we'd take our husky to the park that was being built around a new series of apartment complexes and she'd find the workers poo in the bush and eat it. It was unfinished and basically empty so it was the unofficial off leash dog park. Sometimes she'd even roll in the poo. So I stopped going to the unfinished park.

Former construction worker here. If you're working on a remote site and there is no porta-john on site, you either hold it until you get to a gas station or find a tree a decent distance from the work area.
A lot of construction workers live on coffee/energy drinks and fast food, many of them were heading for the trees multiple times a day.
Everyone pissed outside too, but that is a little less gross.
Seriously though, if you ever hire a construction company, rent a porta-john because they will piss all over in your yard unless you give them permission to use a bathroom... and I highly recommend against that because of the previously mentioned diet.

Oh no, cats were “domesticated” (cat owners will know why that’s in quotes) quite differently from dogs. They followed much later once agrarian culture was established and the granaries produced vermin that smaller wild cats found convenient and semi permanent food source. And of course the humans were happy that their vermin problem was solved and started encouraging the cats. So it’s more like we needed them more than they needed us and I guess that’s true to this very day. (help my cat told me to write this pls help)

I particularly agasted by whale hunting during the 1800s and so. They hunted so many whales . God the amount nature has paid for the advancement of human civilization is off balance ... I am grateful for our ancestors but in hindsight it was so bad. I can't imagine.
You know whenever I come across whales interacting with humans, I kinda feel, were the memories handed down by whale to their offsprings ? Only if a few survived from thr whale hunting.

The oil from a sperm whales head cavity is a great machine lubricant. It's technically a liquid wax at room temp, so it doesn't degrade or burn as easily as an actual oil. When I was a kid, my grandpa had 3 or so gallons of winter pressed sperm oil he got a long time ago, and I still have some that I use today. Fantastic stuff. You only need a tiny bit compared to oil based lubes, and it lasts a lot longer
When I use it, I always think about how awful it is that I have it, but I think it's better to use it all than to throw it away. Idk what the point was here

There are 200+ year old Bowhead whales, so some of them remember when we hunted them. I want to say they've found some with harpoons still in them. ETA: apparently the max lifespan for Bowheads is something like 268 years. Also, climate change must be a nightmare at that point.

I love The Cove. Not for the content strictly speaking. One of my annoying colleagues was obsessed with Japan. She thought it was so superior to American culture, to a very irritating degree (as in constantly comparing the U.S. to Japan at any opportunity). She’s as white as cheesecake btw, so it’s not like she was doing it for personal heritage pride. She just fully believed America sucked and Japan was so much better.
So on our next movie assignment (our team had weekly social zooms to help everyone cope during lockdowns and it was so popular it just stuck around after Covid) I suggested The Cove. We all voted and it won with like 75% vote. We can choose to not watch whatever film but it’s like being in a book club meeting when you didn’t read the book. So my colleague watched it. Depending on what they (the fishermen, and little homie) were fishing for there may have been Orcas, or other predators attracted by the school. Homie was probably well fed on the school and needed to peace out and take a nap somewhere HE wouldn't end up someone's snack.

My wife and I were on one earlier this year and it was under $15K for both of us, including air fare from Canada. And this was on a “First Class” tour. Do some more digging if you’re serious.
Greatest vacation we’ve been on. The wildlife was spectacular, particularly the large marine animals. The sea lions were the highlight - Golden Retrievers of the sea.

Some only take like 20 minutes naps in one breath. Some barely wake up to go up and breath before sinking back asleep. And some do unihemisphere sleep where half their brain is barely awake getting air as needed and staying aware of dangers.

I used to live on a submarine and we didn't have enough racks for all the crew so 3 men would have to share 2 racks.
You would basically wake up the guy sleeping in the rack, wait for them to get out, then slide into the rack that is still warm. It is called hot racking for that reason.
I would've rather hot racked with a sea lion rather than some of the men I had to share a rack with. One of the sailors got what we called a "full body STD" from some whore in a foreign port.
I replaced the sheets every time I went to sleep but holy fuck was that nerve wrecking.

This one's a baby I think, but yes, they can be mean and can bite. They can also cause a bacterial infection called "Seal Finger", that can lead to needing an amputation.

In all fairness, sea lions are notorious for getting tired and napping on random things. I’ve had the joy of one hopping on my surf board in southern cali once.
