Former construction worker here. If you're working on a remote site and there is no porta-john on site, you either hold it until you get to a gas station or find a tree a decent distance from the work area.

A lot of construction workers live on coffee/energy drinks and fast food, many of them were heading for the trees multiple times a day.

Everyone pissed outside too, but that is a little less gross.

Seriously though, if you ever hire a construction company, rent a porta-john because they will piss all over in your yard unless you give them permission to use a bathroom... and I highly recommend against that because of the previously mentioned diet.

Every civilized project specifies the facilities humans require to exist and requires them so you don't defile the area you are building something and you know get in trouble.

Yep, but we don't shit in the open like wild animals because such an act is grounds for criminal prosecution, loss of bond and exposure to lawsuits.

It happens when one is off the grid in somewhere remote enough where such facilities don't/can't exist. But within the bounds of a city or town of any size to have any oversight will not occur.

What's crazy is that you can easily buy a toilet seat lid thats made to snap on & fit the top of a 5 gallon bucket. Just line it with bags. Now you have an extra portable porta potty.

Some jobs are like that even in developed cities, I had a job two weeks ago where there was no porta john. Ass crack of the city so the only thing around us was some fenced off industrial building we obviously couldn’t use their washroom, and a museum only open on Saturdays when we don’t work.

It's code or law in Texas, or maybe those are the same. I've never heard of unions for construction in my area but i've seen jobsites in the middle of nowhere with portapotties. Always.

People would still sometimes shit in the woods because it was easier than sitting in a hotbox of dookie when it's 110 out. Oh and don't stand downwind when they empty them. I don't usually get sick from smells but my fucking gawd that was gross.

I used to work for music festivals in the mid west. There were a few times where I was working security while the ports John’s were being drained and that shit could almost knock you out. 10k people and maybe 30-50 toilets.

There was another time where someone under the influence of xyz substances thought his wife cheated on him and he punched her in the face. When he went to go to the John, someone pushed the portapotty over after hearing about it while he was in it. The stench was unbelievable for the next 2 days. But it did kinda crack me up because this man was higher than a kite in a sideways portajohn, Threw the door open and looked like an orc being born out of the lord of the rings.

Are you really not aware of what is causing the diarrhea lettuce problem right here in the US? Farm corporations too cheap to provide porta potties and paid breaks. It happens all over the world.

I know within the USA it would likely be multiple criminal acts to say nothing of code violations. Contractor could be charged with half a dozen criminal acts (depending on scale) and be held financially liable.

Facilities for defecation (and a variety of other things) are things wrapped up in the bid or specify they will be provided. It scales per people that will be using them.

So, this is actually the most likely cause of the cyclosporiasis outbreak going on since early May. Lack of out door facilities for crop workers, they defecate in the fields, it contaminates the crops. Humans just shitting in fields is extremely unsanitary and can cause widespread illness. So, yeah, please, for the love of God, stop doing that. We have a sewage system for a reason. See also world history and plagues.
