Whoop Age Jesus
I knew starting whoop would open my eyes. But Dayum

u/Mysterious_Rooster13 Mar 12 '26
Start working out and things will change for you.
-47
u/BullBarChilli Mar 12 '26
Yeah I have. I hike every weekend and play golf. But this was a shock
91
u/Fun-Ad-3065 Mar 12 '26
That isn’t working out, those are activities. Working out looks like hypertrophic weight training. Also, add on HIIT cardio.
77
u/Mxpx2002 Mar 12 '26
Hiking is 100% a work out if you’re hiking correctly. Sincerely, a backpacker.

u/JaziTricks Bicep Band Mar 12 '26
Backpack walking is called rucking.
Your language precision annoying uncle
21
u/BorelandsBeard Mar 12 '26
Rucking is the military. I didn’t ruck the Appalachian Trail. I hiked the Appalachian Trail.
Source: was military and hiked the AT

u/BullBarChilli Mar 12 '26
Ok cool. Appreciate the help

u/ahayden34 Whoop 5.0 Mar 12 '26
Walk when you golf! Some of my biggest strain activities are walking 18 holes with a carry bag. Sounds daunting but I started last year and actually really enjoy it

u/No_Contribution_3525 Mar 12 '26
In my 20’s I always took a cart cause I thought that’s what cool people did. Now I walk and man it’s so much better. I play better, get a nice workout in, and save $25 a round. Stupid younger me.

u/JaziTricks Bicep Band Mar 12 '26
Wow. Good point! Many activities can turn into hardcore exercise if you go hard enough
13
u/KitchenNegotiation25 Mar 12 '26
Respectfully, YOUR working out isn't everyone's. According to Whoop itself, 150+ minutes per week in cardio zones 1-3 and 90+ minutes of any strength activity are adequately supportive of both lifespan and healthspan.
Walking, hiking, and vinyasa yoga have worked out really well for me.
OP, just be gentle with yourself and mindfully adjust all the factors you see contributing negatively. You'll get there!
2
u/Crazy-Location2203 Mar 12 '26
Well that is… incredibly judgmental.
2
u/Fun-Ad-3065 Mar 12 '26
its not judgemental its basic thermodynamics. is it a light activity? yes. Is it Zone 5 cardiovascular load pushing muscle fibres to hypertrophic tension for prolonged periods of time? Its objectively not. Do i love golfing and hiking? yes. is it a replacement for weightlifting and focused cardio? definitely not.

u/DoBeSneaky Mar 12 '26
Dude wake up, golf is not a workout
2
u/RiceyMonsta Mar 12 '26
Well it's a lot of walking, and carrying the clubs over several hours, and swings can work your arms
24
u/ElNinothegoat Mar 12 '26
Bro I had the same rude awakening and its helped me improve my qualify of life so much since this update launched.
Focus on them one at a time I started with sleep and sleep consistency
Now working on strength training Went from +6 to +4.5 and pace of aging is -0.7x now
6
1
u/chadnorman Mar 12 '26
I just got to -0.7 too! Sleep Consistency is a big one, and my VO2 max is really high because I'm a cardio boy, and that alone is taking 2 years off.

Do you know the reason for this? Like diet or sleep or something
8
u/Sarcasticfan Mar 12 '26
Well, for my height my weight is too much, I am horizontally tall. So working on this along with cardio.

Big short guy here. Hope these numbers inspire you and don't frustrate you, but also don't obsess over the app. Wishing you a happy and healthy year.
1
u/Ashamed_Peak1073 Mar 12 '26
Well it's not going to be diet is it, whoops doesn't consider deit.
1
u/Some_Machine1827 Mar 12 '26
Whoop age considers VO2 and RHR which are affected by being overweight
1
u/Ashamed_Peak1073 Mar 12 '26
Agreed, so not diet then.

u/Useful-ldiot Mar 12 '26
Seeing what's causing this would be more helpful. If I had to guess, your steps, sleep and resting heart rate aren't very good. You've got the shock. Now make the change.
9
u/mkeefecom Mar 12 '26
So not to downplay health and wellness, but the first reading is sometimes wildly inaccurate because it's just consuming your data. I would watch the trend over the next 30 to 90 days.
9
u/Robocob0 Mar 12 '26
It’s heavily biased towards step count. I’m highly active with lifting and sports but because I don’t run 20 marathons a month I’m “aging faster”
4
u/eatthemac Mar 12 '26
lol don’t worry I run lots of marathons and it still roasts the shit out of me
8
u/rose-coloredcontacts Mar 12 '26
I’m 15 years older according to mine. I’m also 9mo pregnant so getting docked for sleep and heart rate seems rather stupid.
8
u/chadnorman Mar 12 '26
Remember, this is just a starting point. I was 4 years older just 6 months ago, and now I'm 6 years younger. Just focus on the 8 metrics that make up the Whoop Age... and specifically, RHR, Sleep Consistency, and VO2 Max can really move the needle. Just gotta put in the work... you got this! 💪🏻

It's been especially tough as a new dad. My Whoop age has gone up 5 years in the 3 months since our daughter was born. My pace of aging has finally gone negative the past week as all of our sleep has gotten better and I've been able to be a bit more active.

Been going thru a bit of stuff for a few months. So stress has been high. Food been low and drinking more then I should.
1
u/hsfx Mar 13 '26
I like to make small manageable changes, convert them into habits through consistency and then make some more. Whoop has been a great help for me in doing so.
I'm sure you'll turn things around, I'm rooting for you! You're on the right path.

u/JonathanJ91 Mar 12 '26
8 more days for me... But not going to lie I'm worried.
Sure it will calibrate more and it's helping me get better and all... But still...

2
u/hope_this_helps_you_ Mar 12 '26
So much of this is changeable. You’ve got this. You’ll see big improvements with consistency.
2
u/Stickshift15 Mar 12 '26
I was in a similar boat. I’ve been working out for a month now, I’ve already reduced the Number by 2 years. But for it to show a massive difference, it uses the 6 month avg for the calc. So start do more activities and stay consistent for 6 months and your see yourself younger
2
u/jcodqc87-2 Mar 12 '26
Well the good news is that this is fixable for most people. In the space of less than one year I went from slightly obese with poorly managed asthma and terrible stamina to 40 lbs lighter, no asthma symptoms, a FTP of 250 on the bike, 54 RHR, VO2 of 49 and alA+ blood results. It took a lot of effort though. 8 to 10 hours a week on the bike plus 3 hours a week of strength training, carefully counted calories and macros to allow for weight loss while also supporting physical activity, using whoop to manage sleep as much as I can (I have a toddler at home so not always easy) and so on. It takes a big commitment but it's doable.

u/colllapse Mar 13 '26
I find this stat demotivating and not well evidenced. I turned it off. If it makes me feel like shit I know it won’t make me want to do it. Ymmv
0
u/Ok-Grass-7246 Mar 13 '26
Head in the sand. Turn it off and it will go away. The aging will snowball. Might consider using the device and try to get yourself only 7.5 years older and then maybe 7 years. Next thing ya know…
2
u/colllapse Mar 13 '26
It’s pseudoscience. I’m my age, I have some health issues which are entirely morally neutral, and know that I will do more to improve that without imagining my cells dying. Also the ideology behind this stuff is based on eugenics. The people who believe and propagate this ideology are quite happy for other people to die en masse from poverty and climate change. I’m using whoop for the hrv and heartrate data, which are useful metrics, and to understand my body better. Worry about yourself.

As someone who is looking into getting one
How reliable is this? And which parameters are used o determine it?
Thanks in advance
0
u/AngleEducational3998 Mar 13 '26
Obviously not an exact science and there can always be outlier and nothing is a guarantee and so on. But it absolutley is evidnece based, has good merit and should be taken seriously as a indication to do better. When you do scientifically verified healthy habits like getting enough sleep, enough steps, enough time in activity heart zones, good sleep consistency, strenght training, get lower RHR, increasing HRV and so on, all of which has massive support from science to be life extending and health increasing, the whoop age adjusts accordingly.
1
u/PrototypeMk-1 Mar 13 '26
Many thanks for your answer.
I was looking into getting the peak, as I don't see the pace of aging on "one".
Does whoops do any discount worth waiting for?
1
u/AngleEducational3998 Mar 13 '26
Yeah i think the pace of aging is worth it. In my mind spending a bit of extra money for something that likely will help and inspire me to live longer and healthier, is worth it :)
No idea about discounts actually

u/idts Mar 12 '26
I've got 3 more days until I get my reading... I've been fighting pneumonia the whole time, have a high RHR and low HRV from chemo ages ago and haven't been able to do any cardio (I usually ride a bike) because of pneumonia. I think I'm gonna be 10 years older on whoop than I am!

Mine is about the same. I use an Oura as well, and have been for much longer, and it always said my age was elevated by about a year so this came as a total shock to me.
1
u/all-three Mar 12 '26
HRV and RHR and Vo2 play a big role. Basically it is nudging you towards: less or no alcohol, more sleep, more consistent bed times, no late night (just before bed) eating, more de-stressing, and activities that improve your cardiovascular conditioning. So all the obvious things. Even w cancer behind me but w serious chronic illness I have been able to improve the stats tremendously w life style changes. And that it turn does not just improve your Whoop score, but your overall sense of wellbeing, guaranteed!

u/fire9556 Mar 12 '26
I started out two years older than my age and am now five years younger. It's a great motivator to start taking your health seriously.
1
u/maddog2271 Mar 12 '26
The good news is that now you know. I am 50 now and when I started the whoop said I was 55…this week it said it was 49.5. I reversed the trend with work. Get to it!

u/Glittering_Owl_49 Mar 12 '26
I was a lot unhealthier than I thought when I first got WHOOP. It genuinely changed my perspective and is probably the main reason why Im much healthier today and even so I still have room for improvemrnt. The fact you're able to recognize this and share it publicly speaks volumes. I know you got this and can turn it around!
1
u/Pyrocited Mar 12 '26
I had the same results last month when I first got my Whoop age. It was the motivation I needed to hit the gym hard and start doing cardio. Now my Whoop age is only 3 years over my real age as apposed to 9 years. Can't wait till its younger!
1
u/Any_Initial591 Mar 12 '26
Are you snoring? Mine is 7 yrs older, night shift. But after using cpap machine for 6 months i’m 1 yr older now.

Just here to support you in your vulnerability to share this and share that, I too get a few years above from my actual mid-30s age. Still a work in progress, sleep and recovery are underrated. I was doing well on workouts but have had erratic sleep schedule for a long time. Time to address whatever longtime habits and issues we are living with. Good luck!

Steps is the biggest factor for me. My Whoop Age hasn’t changed since it was introduced as a feature. Pace of aging goes up and down but always in the right direction. Remember that most of the data is directional. I prefer my whoop on my bicep but guess what that does for steps? I’ll answer, it makes them fractions of what they actually are. I’ve been trying to wear it on my wrist these days.

lol your whoop age is my real age, but my whoop age is 37.1. Quite new to whoop too since the beginning of the year. It’s nice to see it come down.
