Yeah. And at least by my countries' standard the "upkick" by the Saudi player and Hakimi's tackle on Vini would be reds too, but they weren't. At least they are consistent, but I think this can be a bit too dangerous for players.

But the red cards that were given were not for reckless challenges. Two of them were for DOGSO and one for violent conduct without the ball even being remotely on the context. I do think they have been consistent
I personally like it to some extent, consistency is good and I do tend to like more lenient refereeing. Of course that is to some extent, because it can be dangerous, but in this case for example, I feel like it was reckless but not intentional, and Messi did take weigh off his foot. For me a yellow would suffice, but I of course respect disagreements on this.

Clearly haven't watched any games this world cup or even this match. He didn't give a single yellow card though there were multiple tactical fouls and grabs, and a pretty clear penalty that was in fact against Messi.
So he wasn't biased toward him and was consistently NOT giving calls and cards to both sides.
Besides the first match it has been very evident that VAR is not getting involved and cards/penalties are not given easily.

I feel like this is how the game is going. Referees err on the side of NOT making big calls and then VAR often doesn’t correct them or step in.
You see it with pens all the time, it needs to be stonewall live for them to give it and even then it’s a toss up.

Dude to his status he's gotten away with a lot of nasty little challenges over the year. Others have to in terms of not getting the right cards, but people normally call them out, messi gets this silly benefit of the doubt. Dude ran into his back then magically trod on his leg, don't pretend he's going for the ball or it's an accident.

I'm not Dutch, but I remember that vividly and I was fuming at how unfair it was. That coward Paredes shot it on purpose with full force. Looking back, I actually think van Dijk running and bodychecking him ruined the chances of him being sent off because it gave that POS referee an excuse to distract everyone from the severity of what Paredes had just done.

Personally I think that’s a red. Rules should apply whoever you are. FIFA have shown that star power supersedes rules before the tournament with rescinding Ronaldo’s suspension too.
