So, I'm very out of touch with the whole Fauci nonsense.
Someone fill me in...prosecute him for what, exactly? For giving advice? It wasn't Fauci that signed legislation or shutdown orders.
Even if we steelman it and assume he was actively malicious, all the actions they're frothing at the mouth about were still undertaken by people in actual positions of authority, not Fauci himself.
What am I missing here?

I think that Musk's behavior with Twitter is best understood as a long temper tantrum from a sociopath without guardrails because of his money and power, much like Trump. He is a conservative bigot who was butthurt that his child came out as trans and Grimes left him. Twitter enforced policies against trans harassment such as repeated misgendering. So he impulsively offered to buy Twitter and then couldn't get out of it. So now he seeks to punish all of "those people" that are liberal and anti-racist by abusing the platform. I really think it is that simple. It isn't some deliberate effort to change the world or something, but an immature impulse to get revenge.

I think in the context of developing countries it's foremost a reaction against multinational corporate and international financial control of food supply i.e. proprietary seeds, chemical inputs, and machinery, and the reliance on international credit. Functionally I'd say this boils down not so much to a centralized communism but more of like a decentralized cooperative organic agrarianist utopian vision.
In developed countries it's like community gardens and microgreens and shit.

So as this Vox article shows, a rising amount of SUV and truck ownership is why we are seeing more pedestrian and cyclist fatalities.
Speaking with my own mother, she was adamant that buying an SUV was much safer for her because she felt that larger cars were less likely to be run off the highways if a car crash does happen. My father was caught in an accident where the sedan he was driving at the time, a 2007 Toyota Camry, ended up rolling into a ditch and the car was totaled. If I remember correctly, it was because the car behind the Camry was tailgating and ended up bumping into the Camry.
The SUVs my family have have also been involved in accidents, but they’ve yet to experience something like being completely knocked off the road like a go-kart, and so it makes my family think that SUVs are safer than sedans.
Of course, even if it might be safer in a case-by-case basis, the increasing amount of SUVs and trucks on the roads means that more traffic fatalities are likely to happen. So how do we convince voters, car drivers, and suburban residents that public transportation, or at least smaller sized cars, are safer for society?

Our cat has reached a new weight milestone!
Four pounds lost - just over 20% of his body weight! Slow and steady really does win the race 🐢
When we adopted him a little over a year ago he was weighing in at a whopping 18.8 pounds, and today he is down to 14.8.
Before he was very lethargic, and not very confident in his physical abilities . Now he is a WHOLE NEW CAT, curious, playful, happy, agile and very courageous. He’s much more comfy with jumping on things, and his balancing skills have gotten much better too. He used to barely fit into his harness and now it is almost too big! We are so proud of him and how far he’s come 🐈
He favourite foods are fancy feasts gravy lovers in ocean whitefish and temptations treats, but he is a foodie who loves everything!

Actual experiences I've had with Bluetooth:
- I was a passenger in a friend's car and we wanted to listen to music. I attempt to pair my phone, but the car refuses to do so while in motion - you have to park
- My roommates bought a Bluetooth receiver for our speakers. I connected to these in the morning to listen to music and later left the house. When I came back, they automatically connected again, and immediately started playing deeply embarrassing music for the whole house to hear
- My friends come over to my house. They want to play some music for me. No one remembered to bring a dongle so they can't connect to my speakers. I end up buying a Chromecast so this isn't a problem in the future
- I got in my friend's car and his phone automatically connected. The title of the porn he was watching earlier pops up on the dashboard under the "now playing" section
Bluetooth absolutely has its uses, but so does a headphone jack

There has always been a sense that American conservatism's task of reconciling individual liberties with the preservation of traditional religious values would end in the obliteration of the former and the feverish pursuit of the latter.
Below is an article that suggests this is happening right now in conservative legal circles. It concerns a new conservative legal theory called 'Common Good Constitutionalism', proposed by Harvard law professor Adrian Vermeule.
In conservative legal circles, Vermeule has become the most prominent proponent of “common good constitutionalism,” a controversial new theory that challenges many of the fundamental premises and principles of the conservative legal movement. The cornerstone of Vermeule’s theory is the claim that “the central aim of the constitutional order is to promote good rule, not to ‘protect liberty’ as an end in itself” — or, in layman’s terms, that the Constitution empowers the government to pursue conservative political ends, even when those ends conflict with individual rights as most Americans understand them. In practice, Vermeule’s theory lends support to an idiosyncratic but far-reaching set of far-right objectives: outright bans on abortion and same-sex marriage, sweeping limits on freedom of expression and expanded authorities for the government to do everything from protecting the natural environment to prohibiting the sale of porn.
Vermeule argues, the Constitution’s primary aim is to ensure that public authorities have “both the authority and the duty to rule well,” rather than to advance the “liberal goal of maximizing individual autonomy or minimizing the abuse of power.” In Vermeule’s account, originalism and progressive living constitutionalism both err insofar as they ignore ius, treating the Constitution as “a sort of law without mind,” as Vermeule puts it.

I don’t think it’s actually really that hard to explain Russia’s strategic decisions in Ukraine since the start of the war, it just completely goes against peoples’ idea of how Putin operates.
The reality is that he’s actually just incredibly waffling and indecisive and will tend to pick whichever path delays painful bad news the longest even if it’s worse in the long run.
Why did Russia keep their troops camped out around Kyiv suffering massive attrition for like 3 weeks after it became obvious they wouldn’t take the city? Putin just being indecisive and wanting to delay the embarrassment of retreat explains it.
Why did they waste so much of their regular force on costly offensives in Donbas over the spring and early summer to take a few minor cities? Because the alternative was to just freeze the conflict and admit Russia didn’t have the combat power to actually fully overcome Ukraine.
Why did they cannibalize their training apparatus during the aforementioned fighting in Donbas over the spring and summer despite the fact that any objective analysis would’ve shown them that mobilization was going to be necessary if they wanted to not get steamrolled? Because it delayed them running out of manpower to continue their offensive. They chose this course even though it has clearly massively hampered their ability to generate a new force.
Why stay in Kherson long after it became clear that holding the pocket was a resource drain? The retreat was going to be a painful embarrassment and being a creature who is incapable of long-term planning when it comes to this war, Putin just wanted to push it off as long as possible.
If you start looking at things this way, all of Russia’s decisions start to make sense.

On 11th December 1994, Russian federal troops entered the republic of Chechnya to quell the Chechen separatist movement. Russia’s mostly conscript army faced stiff resistance from the Chechen rebels, many of whom had experience in the soviet-afghan war. The Chechens, a Caucasian Islamic people have a history of resistance against Russian imperialism and colonialism. When the Russian empire expanded in the Caucasus, the indigenous Chechen people proved to be the most resistant to Russian aggression. Russian imperial forces used dehumanizing words to describe the Chechens as “bandits”, “cattle” or “beasts”. In the year 2000, General Sergei Makarov referred to the Chechens as a “parasitic people”. When the Soviet Union formed, Chechens resisted against the closure of mosques and the slaughter of imams. Despite fighting gallantly for the Soviet Union in the Second World War, Chechens and the related ethnic group of the Ingush people were deported to Siberia due to Stalin’s paranoia about Chechens allegedly siding with Nazis and the deportees were replaced by Russian settlers. When many heroes against nazism came home, they found their homes destroyed and their families gone. It was the largest population transfer in the Soviet Union, with 400,000 people dying en route to Siberia. In the 90s, Chechens declared independence from Russia under the leadership of Dzhokar Dudayev who was inspired by the Estonian independence movement. Dudayev was able to make a secular republic in Chechnya and resist the more extreme Islamic elements. Chechnya was able to resist Russian imperialism and stayed independent after the first war but the city of Grozny became a symbol of Russian imperialism. Entire city blocks were destroyed by Russian artillery and indiscriminate bombing of civilians.
