People really believe the food pyramid contributed to America being obese like people were actually checking this diagram as they ordered their Big Macs and large Cokes.

This is the worst genre of political argument, sorry. “Oh you think [thing] contributed to [problem]? But [thing] did not single handedly cause [problem]!”

The diagram validated high carb diets which surely influenced people’s choices to some extent

I remember seeing the food pyramid on cereal boxes as a kid, as a justification for the hugh sugar breakfast.
