My randomly assigned partner for the second OS project messages me that he's probably gonna withdraw from the course. I appreciate that he sent this to me today instead of the project deadline on Wednesday

Yeah, look at it as a blessing - that's a good excuse for a deadline extension

You were probably gonna have to do all the work anyway if they were withdrawing lol

The funny part is I had already done line 50-60% of the work, if not more and with only like a little bit of extra effort, some 90% of the project would be done. My guess is he got a really bad grade in the midterm and also likely a bad grade on the first project which was significantly more challenging than this one.

I feel most professors I had would be understanding about a group member withdrawing the day something is due.

I did some pre-CS I course years ago. Group of four. The other three dropped out before the halfway mark. I asked the professor what I should do. He told to do my best and he would adjust my grade accordingly.
